I've been taking my 3 boys here since they were all little. They're now 13, 16, 19. i moved out of the area about 8 years now and I continue to drive the hour to take my boys. Its always been a nice place to enter, from the underwater ocean theme to the professional friendly hellos from the staff. The boys have been offered glasses, iPad etc to view cartoons and movies while they get work done. I wish I could go here! LOVE THIS PLACE as do my kids. They do a good job on teeth but don't go there unless you want your kid traumatized! They strapped my kid down while filling his cavity now he is so afraid of Dentists. True Story and I waited this long to tell it knowing what it was going to be. Back in September My dentist recommended my son to Sporting Smiles because of his anxiety. Sporting Smiles was not a such bad place but was frustrating and did not give the oral meds I needed. They referred me here. This location looked at the X-Rays and said they can work on the 2 cavities using oral meds. They explained he would be wrapped in a blanket for safety. I had to be o.k with that. That's what is is at this point. I did correct them to say he had 4 cavities but they wanted to take more x-rays before they said 4. Even though the original dentist AND Sporting Smiles also confirmed 4 cavities. Anyway, we had to get this done so I paid the enormous pre-payment to get him in. About $300. A week or two later, we went in to fix his "2" cavities. They were nice and kind. They let him pick his movie. Took his oral meds. They had him lie on a board and they wrapped him up in heavy velcro strips. He was very out of it but struggled none-the-less to get free once the dentist started doing her thing, and he began screaming at the top of his lungs trying to get out and also he had the gas on AND the peice to hold his mouth open. I could see he obviously was trying to breathe and was in pain. The dentist kept doing her work and my son just continued to scream in pain tied up. It was like something from a horror show and I swear It bothers me to this day. It was like he was in an asylum. This kept up and finally, exasperated, I look at the dentist and ask "Did you numb his mouth"? and she said no! No, she did not numb his mouth! Why? Why after giving oral meds and a bit of gas could you not just stick a numbing agent on his gum!! It was insane. It took all of 15 minutes but felt like a lifetime. A lifetime of pure hell. I am not kidding. I am not exaggerating. When he was "finished" they wheeled him out in a wheelchair for safety. I knew already that they failed to acknowledge the other 2 cavities AND that these were done in such a horrid fury they could not be done correctly. I paid the balance of my payment which was like another $250 or so and just waited until it was time for his cleaning to see what our original dentist said about it. ( Which was today at our dentist. I said nothing to them ahead of time whatsoever) They came in my room asking if I took him to see anyone. I told them then of what happened.....Turns out all they did was basically cement a patch over the cavity! Cover the hole! That's what they did for over $500 + the terrible and horrible visit. She was right about one thing ... My son can't remember a bit of it and thinks he did a good job. I tell him he did..... meanwhile, I'd like to sue the pants off your outfit over there!!!!! My dentist has her team of people scouting for what my son would need from a dentist to get his actual cavitites filled. I'm really upset that people in respected positions teat others like this because they can. This probably won't even make the review list for their office but every single word of this is True! Amazing staff and wonderful new location. My children have been patients of this dental practice for a long time so this review is long overdue. The front office staff is friendly and efficient. There is never a long wait and there is a small activity room where kids can play or watch tv. The hygienists are extremely patient and give the kids a ton of control so that they are comfortable (picking flavor of fluoride, allowing them to control the chair, choosing the type of "shades" to wear when the examination lights go on). The dentists are quick and thorough and above all honest in regards to what your kids need and the best ways to go about any treatment. Just a few years ago my son was terrified and with his regular check ups, he is now in the chair on his own and excited to get his teeth counted! read more

I have had 3 horrible experiences here and only one insincere apology. We had been coming to this dentist for countless year and they were great about cleanings but when it came to cavities I have never ever received worse care in my life. My kids and I went in for a routine cleaning and the hygienist told us we had no cavities and told us we could leave, as I was walking out of the room another hygienist pulls me aside and tells me one of my daughters has a cavity. I was annoyed but it was whatever maybe the hygienist was new and didn't spit it? After she gets her cavities filled I walk up to the counter and this time the dentist pulls me aside and tells me they filled the wrong tooth??? And she proceeded to ask if I wanted the correct one filled here. I was dumbfounded after you tell me she has no cavities realize she has one, then fill a perfectly healthy tooth you want me to trust you to fill another tooth? I tell her no and we would like to take are services else where and ask for their charts and other things that you need to change dentists. She hesitates trying to convince us to stay but we finally get them, and then they ask me to pay for the filling......the filling they incorrectly put in the tooth. I argued for a solid 20 minutes. That was only one bad experience another was when my other daughter had a cavity filled they gave her a silver crown, without informing me or my husband, in a fully visible place when she smiled. Luckily it was a baby tooth and fell out. All they ever told us was "we can easily fill the cavity it won't take long at all. Last but not least when my son got his braces removed they told me he needed 4 teeth removed. I asked why they didn't bring this up while he had braces and they didn't know. So he needed up having to get braces again and in the end his retainer didn't fit when I told them they said they never 100% fit and it teeth should move a little bit. read more

I have been taking my son here for cleanings for the past 3 years, and my 4 y.o daughter recently went in for her first cleaning. I returned with my daughter to get 2 cavities filled; we chose to give her the laughing gas and she was fine throughout the entire procedure. She did not make a peep! My children went to this group for the first few years of their life. My kids are prone to cavities, and one of the dentists always asked, in a very judgemental way, "Do you let them drink sugary drinks?!" Each time, I said no. After that same dentist was quite rude to my child during a procedure (she was 6 at the time) and when I started to feel like they were over-prescribing procedures, I decided to go elsewhere. We are much happier at our new place. However, in the last two years, we have had so many problems with the work done by Gainesville Pediatric. Each of my daughters has had multiple fillings fall out. Multiple. One of my daughters has a cavity under the sealants that were done at Gainesville Pediatric. We paid thousands of dollars for the sub-par treatment my daughters received there, and now I will shell out over $500 next week to correct and fix. While the receptionists and hygienists are great at Gainesville, I don't have faith in the dentists' idea of appropriate care and skill in providing it. The place we now go to doesn't have all the fancy decorations, but the dentists are amazing and incredibly supportive. We have had no problems with the work they have done, and they take a conservative approach to care. read more

I can't say enough good things about Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry. All three dentists are wonderful! The staff is so friendly and helpful and the office is fun! I recently brought my four year old in to have three cavities filled. Dr. Shingler took great care of my daughter. She was patient and kind and listened to her needs as she occasionally got restless in the chair. She took her needs and feelings into consideration as well as mine before continuing onto the third tooth. She was very open in her communication with me so I felt part of the plan. I was also able to sit with my daughter and hold her hand and talk to her during the procedure. And Dr Shingler did all three cavities so fast! My children have been patients here since 2008 and we were previously happy with the care they received. But in the last year, I've had two incidents where it was clear to me that this dental office is primarily profit motivated. The first was when my 4 year old daughter was having a cavity filled and squirmed and cried a little ... as one would expect a four year old to do. Her work was able to be completed and really, she behaved quite well considering the situation. Afterwards, the dentist pulled me aside and told me that she strongly recommended that my daughter be completely sedated for her next cavity. Like totally knocked out. Um, no. The dentist then got very aggressive and said that she couldn't guarentee her best work with my daughter conscious and repeatedly tried to get me to agree to knock her out for the next filling. I never mentioned the price just my concern that knocking out a 4 year old for a minor dental procedure seemed excessive. Secondly, my 8 year old son broke his front tooth earlier this year. The tooth was Xrayed over and over again to see if it was dying (it wasn't). After 3 Xrays, plus another one at his earlier check-up, they wanted to do another set of Xrays at his most recent check-up to look at a suspicious spot from his earlier checkup. My son has never had a cavity in his life, the dentist couldn't see any cavity and he'd already had 4 sets of Xrays this year. I said no, I didn't want him to be Xrayed. Again, the dentist very aggressively argued that he needed to be Xrayed again, that if there was a cavity and we let it go for six months he could need a root canal, nerve reconstruction and worse. She also said she just had a feeling that there was a cavity there --- like dentistry is an emotive science or something. When I said again, no, no XRAY, she started listing all the different ways they could present it to my insurance to try and get it covered. I never once said a word about the price (and we have great insurance that would certainly have covered something like this), but she was ready and willing to help figure out how to get our insurance to pay for it. Once again, a very aggressive push to get me to agree to what I believed was a totally unnecessary procedure and absolutely no gentler, less invasive alternative offered. The only reason I didn't give 1 star is that this place is very good at routine cleanings and dental care. The hygenists are friendly and gentle and the atmosphere is very kid friendly. It's a good place to take a toddler for their first check-up but I don't trust them with more extensive dental care. read more

Have been going to Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry for the past 10 years. No complaints until our last 2 visits. Last year I was told my daughter had a cavity by one doctor, so my husband takes her out of school early to have it filled. Well according to another doctor at the office that day she did not have a cavity. Again this last visit we were told she had a cavity, so my husband had asked Dr. Shingler to take a look because of what happened last time. I guess when you tell the doctor your concerns they get highly offended and proceed to tell you so. Not once, but twice!!! Oh and she never looked in my daughters mouth, guess she was too offended. LOVE this place! Staff is all friendly and great with kids. I was afraid to take my child to the dentist because I have herd that some like to do unnecessary things just to get money. Not this place they just want what is best for the child and are accommodating to make child comfortable. Never have to wait long to be seen but if you did they have a children's area with a TV and another TV for the parents. Will never leave this place. read more
