After coming here for 15 or so years, I will never set foot in this shop again. Was yelled at by the overweight man in the back room for using the washroom briefly while my order was being filled. After calmly trying to explain no one has ever told me this since coming here for years, and asking the reason as to why patrons were all the sudden not allowed to use a washroom that they all communally used, I was rudely called entitled by the brightly coloured hair girl working deep in the back who was so bored as to come out front to join the conversation just to call me entitled for having a bladder that I felt needed to be emptied, as I was spending money in the shop. The last Asian lady behind the counter vainly tried to quote Covid as the reason for me not being allowed to use the washroom... in late 2023 lol. Yes that's right folks. Then after confronting their lack of any knowledge of infectious disease or any sort of infection control measures and how their reasoning was entirely redundant, the lady calling me entitled changed the reason as to having "old pipes". Can't make this stuff up. After catching them in their ignorance they became much more irritated and loud. Funny cause I was already attempting to leave and was halfway out the door when the bright hair girl immaturely and childishly decided to shout insults at me as I left. This shop is run by a bunch of rude, pseudomedicine believing, grossly undertrained people to giving out any health related advice. And they're really touchy about their bathroom. I was expecting good service based from the reviews below but the older lady who served me was sort of awkward with me and when I asked her if she has any recommendations for "cravings" or "food control" she didn't know anything. A new customer came in after and he seems excited asking if they had any essential oil boxes/travel bags and she just said no sorry - this same guy came back shortly sharing how he found one from a dollar store nearby obviously trying to make small talk but she never shared the same enthusiasm that poor guy or I have about essential oils. They have Frankincense Carterii which in my opinion smells significantly better than Sage's Frankincense Frereana. Oils are good quality and pricing is on par with other high quality dispensaries but their roll on containers are on the high side at $2.50 ea. read more

I came in shopping for a herb that had two alternatives. I was helped by Bob who was very friendly and gave me some books to read up on the differences between the two herbs I had to choose from. I found the staff to be personable and friendly. They are not the kinds of people to try and upsell you, but I observed with every customer who asked a question that they were attentive and thorough in their responses. The quality of herbs and tinctures also appears to be top notch, and it is an incredibly thorough range. I will definitely be back again! read more

I like the stuff they carry, and their staff seems knowledgeable. Why only 4 out of 5 stars? Because they do seem to promote some quakery with the 3rd vendors and testing they are associated with. And example is Inherent Wellness...if you look up the blood test they do, it is all quakery...many (famous) functional doctors have debunked it. I was very excited to find an apothecary like this one in Vancouver - I must have walked by dozens of times but have only started going in recently - they have organic and wild crafted herbs, tinctures, teas and all sorts of other goodies. Their selection and the knowledgable and very helpful staff are definite assets. The tea selection is what interests me the most; this time I just got some of their 'pleasure' teas - the chai, and the mulled wine mix were amazing! I think with some research I'll try some different blends the next time - and I will come armed with more questions! Weekdays during the day seems to be a quiet/less congested time to ask questions. read more

I always find something interesting at Gaia Garden. They have a nice arnica and comfrey cream - I've been slathering it on my sore muscles regularly. They also have an arnica salve that is nice to massage with. Their face products are wonderful. So nice to have natural things to nurture my skin. Great alternative to ridiculous products from department store cosmetic lines that don't do a thing, and cost a small fortune. Friendly service; relaxing environment. read more

I've shopped here for many years, but avoid it because the staff and owners are NOT personable or service-oriented. Now I found another reason to avoid it - their exorbitant prices. This past year I decided to get over my preference for shopping Canadian and found much better, much cheaper options in the US. At Gaia, the pricing is ridiculously high compared to Mountain Rose Herbs in Oregon. Many herbs are up to 4 and 5 times the price of Mountain Rose. (Yes MR has exceptionally good prices, but they're obviously making a profit nonetheless). At Gaia, most of the products are NOT ORGANIC, (again, MR herbs are mostly organic or wildcrafted). Gaia Garden uses ARTIFICIAL SCENT in their 'essential oil' line-up! This fact, which I received from a longtime part-owner/employee knocked me for a loop. If a herbal 'apothecary' shop doesn't recognize the chemical difference between truly natural essential oils and chemically toxic and hormone-altering substances, what does that say about their intelligence and integrity in their field? I've been disgusted with their ethics for many years, so it's nice to have a place to voice my opinion. read more

i came in for a list of herbs for a kidney tea from andreas moritz's liver/gallbladder flush book. they had all but one of the herbs (which happens to be one i'll get at a grocery store - marjoram). the girl helping me reminded me i will need to find organic as otherwise it will be useless for my tea. i didn't confirm, but this makes me assume that all of their herbs are organic. i was happy i could get my selection of 9 herbs, at 1 or 2 ounces each, dispensed right then and there. i had no idea what to expect. i made a point to say it was my first time in as, walking in, i really didn't know where to go or stand to wait for help or to be acknowledged. it's not exactly friendly or inviting in there but i can't say it was a negative experience. i was stunned that my herbs came to almost $60, but i suppose i've assembled a kidney miracle tea here and i hope this is a case of 'you get what you pay for'.. read more

Yelp must have a 1-year expiration applied to comments, so as to present only recent opinions of a business. I wrote a Gaia Garden review in 2010, but it's no longer here. My opinion's changed from negative to positive, which is why I wanted to write a new & positive review. I used to be displeased by apparently high prices of my favourite herbs at Gaia Garden vs. cheaper prices from U.S. mail order businesses online. But I've since found the quality from U.S. sources can be very dicey vs. Gaia Garden's consistently good quality. I also hadn't taken into account Gaia Garden's volume discounts that kick in at the 1 lb., & then the 1 kg. levels, which lower prices significantly. Specifically, I've been disappointed in the last few shipments of passion flower received from a U.S. source consisting of weak-potency whitish plant stalks, rather than high potency green leaves Gaia Garden sells. The stalks possess but a tiny fraction of active ingredients compared to leaves. Since passion flower has an obvious calming or tranquilizing effect, the difference in potency is strikingly evident. On the face of it, Gaia Garden's passion flower price is more expensive, but in terms of dose required & amount of active ingredients, GG's is far more cost effective, i.e. cheaper in reality. GG's is also organic, whereas the mail order product is not advertised as organic, & could be covered in pesticide residue, for all I know. So.I'm happily sticking with Gaia garden now! read more
