Wow. Just wow. My daughter and Hubby went a few weeks ago, and They have the widest variety of vintage antique and retro clothing trinkets and jewelry and lots more. At first I was reading some of the reviews and they said that there was a lot of clutter and it was very cramped, but when I went it was very spacious, well organized, and cute. I have been going to this store for a long time, the stuff is totally overpriced, and the same stuff has been there for years. I saw a vintage ice cream cone holder it was metal and the cone holes were the original rubber. I wanted it but her asking price was $90.00. I got her down to 80 but she wouldn't budge. OK, you literally need a few days to take in Gadabout. The space is super small and its crammed full of vintage, antique, retro....everything. I'm almost positive many of the film and TV production folks who do shoots taking place in the 1940s and 50s are probably raiding Gadabout regularly. They'd be stupid not to since you can probably find a look for every era since the 1880s here. Antique hand-made quilt blankets, vintage and antique lace bed sheets, pure woolen capes a la Sherlock Holmes made in London, alpaca sweaters, 100% pure lambswool blankets (nobody makes that stuff anymore) 1960s patent leather shoes, old library card catalogues now filled with one-of-a-kind notions like buttons and hooks for your sewing needs, old stationary writing sets, I mean I could just go on and on about the myriad of things I saw just on a quick visit. I didn't buy anything but the prices did seem a bit high but that's how it goes in Toronto these days I guess. If you're looking to replace some buttons on an old sweater or old jacket and want something unique to jazz it up and give it a fresh new look, come here and have a snoop, I'm sure you'll find something. read more

Lots of neat vintage and antique knickknacks of every description, but everything is so cluttered that it's impossible to find anything without assistance, and casual browsing is well-nigh impossible. The staff somehow manages to keep things organized and knows where to find stuff in all the chaos, but unless you walk in looking like you're there to spend some serious money (and the prices are very much on the high end), don't count on them to be very helpful or attentive. read more

This place is full of knick-knacks in literally every nook and cranny. There are large drawers each labelled with various items like handkerchiefs, gloves, postcards, cards, buttons, etc. The walls are filled with things from various eras. I bought a beautiful owl decanter for only 19.99 and had a nice time reminiscing through items I remember seeing in my grandpa's old house. read more

I think Ariel from Disney's The LIttle Mermaid once sang: I've got gidgets and gadgets a-plenty. I've got whosits and whatsits galore. You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty. But who cares. No big deal. I want more.... Well Gadabout HAS more... and then some! You walk into this treasure trove and take in the history behind every object crammed into every nook and cranny of this store. I'm also surprised that though it looks like everything is tossed about haphazardly, there is some semblance of organization there from antique boxes, photos, buttons, jewellery, trinkets, books to clothing, hats, ties and shoes (that would make Mr Dress-Up's tickle trunk shriek with envy). The owner is sweet and helpful and can play "Where's Waldo?" in her store like nobody's business. If you go inhere looking for something in particular, ask, and she shall find (or tell you flat out she doesn't have it). When in the Leslieville area, this is definitely a place I make time to peruse :) read more

GADABOUT is a freaking amazing place! There are two floors of men's and women's vintage clothing, books, bottles and curiosities. I could spend days in here and not see everything... What I did see includes a huge map of Toronto from 1929 for sale here for $800, and lots of old tins, old metal signs and saloon advertising, tobbaciana, brewerania, military pieces and old paper including photographs and magazines. Perfumes, pills and toxic potions are all here, still in their original packaging. Its no wonder film companies come here and rent goods by the shelf - Gadabout is a giant repository of cool. read more

this place is the perfect junk shop. i dont think its possible to see the walls at all. top to bottom, side to side, in, out and around this place is packety pack packed. despite the abundance of antiques and clothes, this place is very organized. you might feel overwhelmed in the store as there is so much to gander at, but itll all be nestled in its own spot. i stopped in between two chests, each with many many small draws that had different ephemera in them like diaries, kitchen utensils, combs, etc. theres many dresses, shoes, blankets, etc. if this kind of stuff interests you, then this is the mother lode. her stuff ranges from the late 1800s to 1970 and not beyond, so that time period accounts for the prices which are high. read more

I love this store. In fact I love almost everything in Leslieville (including other Antique stores), but this is about Gadabout so I'll stay on topic. Yes this two-story store is absolutely FILLED with anything and EVERYTHING you can imagine (Vintage poster? Art? Small appliance? Vintage clothes? Fur coats? Shoes? Jewellery? Accessories? Stamps? Tea sets? Dishes? Pens? Jewellery box? Post cards? Little odd and ends trinkets? Ancient can of peas (yes, peas)? Let your imaginations run wild here, no prob. Every little inch is filled with stuff you'll have a hard time finding under one roof anywhere else). The owner is a super nice lady, very knowledgeable too. I have such a blast every time I take a walk down there (just blocks away from my place). I haven't bought anything yet (because I don't still know what I want or should buy or where to keep them if I do buy. Space is tight). Seriously, if you are looking for anything, or just wanna browse an Antique shop, start with Gadabout. You won't be disappointed. 5 stars for the inventory and niceness. read more

It's like a walk-in museum where you can find all kinds of artifacts that you can actually purchased. I bought a few vintage post cards that I sent back to my friends back home. The prices are reasonable and I managed to haggle very slightly. The owner is very helpful and nice to talk to. read more

The place itself has amazing things, not all of which are within my price range. I'm very into antiques and oddities, so going into this place was love at first sight. The only complaint I have about the store is the lack of organization. The owner is extremely nice, helpful, and enthusiastic. However, the other employee who regularly works there is exasperated by questions, wears a constant miserable expression on her face, and takes a rude tone. When she attempts to be nice, it comes across extremely fake and hollow. She does not seem to enjoy interacting with customers and although I was recently thinking of going back to the store, her presence alone makes me not want to do so. read more
