Just going through the racks (which I normally hate to do) is a real pleasure! From the 40s dresses to the 80s Hawaiian shirts to the 70s jumpsuit, whatever decade you are looking for is here! The sign says "hand-picked vintage" and it's a good description. The space is quite small (looks like a converted apartment, with 2 small rooms and a hallway) and the selection is not as vast as some of the bigger vintage shops. However, each piece is carefully chosen (hence the name). The owner is really friendly and as my shopping partner and I perused the racks, she gave us back-stories for many of the pieces that caught our eyes. She also has altered some of the items to make them more wearable circa now. Compared to other vintage stores, there were some really kooky/costumey pieces here, include a gold lamé jumpsuit ("I had to take that one... it has stirrups!!") and a gothic, Addams-Family-esque black velvet dress with white lace detailing. This would be a fantastic place to find the perfect Halloween costume. It's also a great place to re-live the 90's. As I was browsing, I found myself repeatedly saying to my friend - "omg, remember these?!?" Like those cutout shoulder dresses. Other finds include leopard printed faux-fur coats and beat-up vintage leather jackets for men. There's a sale rack (currently 50% off some winter merchandise) and a $10 accessories section at the back. Definitely worth a look!

The clothes: Whereas a lot of vintage shops in the city have a huge variety of clothing from all kinds of different eras, Chosen features a well-curated selection of clothes that appeal to anyone with a lust for the 90s (ie. me) and girls who want to be a bit more badass and a bit less girly. But this doesn't mean they don't have girly t't to Chosen and you can find sexy little lace slips, James Dean-esque leather jackets, and combat boots for dancing all night. The staff: No complaints here. The owner and the one other girl I've met are both super friendly, helpful and full of interesting tidbits about the pieces. I've bought really cheap unused vintage wrapping paper and 2B pencils, a huge plastic washing/ bathing tub, new glass and wood storage canisters made in France (for an incredible deal), and a kitsch stationery holder shaped like a lion for a friend's birthday. You will find fantastic deals here on great-quality stuff - much cheaper than nearby carefully-curated kitchen stores. Because much if not most of the wares here are unused vintage, a lot of them are made in places like Canada/France/Italy and before everything became disposable. The folks that own/run the place are very friendly, and have a sweet old pug that sometimes sleeps behind the counter. I've generally stayed out of the clothing section, but thanks to a previous reviewer, it looks like I'll have to check it out! If you're patient and persistent, you can even find new items with tags on them. This is one of the larger VVs around which means larger selection of items as well (they have a large curtain section). At least once a month they have a big 50% off sale. If you are a Super Savers Club member, you can go the day before a sale and get the discount (go early because it gets pretty crowded later on in the day) Haven't run into any problems with the staff but I haven't needed to bother them for anything either.

I am always surprised how inexpensive it is to get vintage clothing in such great condition. I have never taken something home from Stella Luna to discover a surprise stain or loose button. What I like most about Stella Luna is the owner. She is absolutely fabulous. Very honest with your selections. If you notice something isn't fitting properly or is not the perfect choice for your skin tone, she can usually offer something that will suit you a little more. This style of shopping may not be every one's cup of tea, but I find it immensely helpful as I am often shopping alone. I definitely appreciate the feedback and the no pressure attitude to buy.
