Naturally, they also have on-the-spot shoe shine service where you sit down for around 5-10 minutes while he glosses up your shoes; the price is different I believe, but I have yet to confirm. If you have patina or other more exotic shoes, I would recommend you go somewhere else for your shoe care.

They are located at the top, past the Aviary, up the vertical climb of Hong Kong Park. It is easier to reach if you find it from Kennedy Road or rather you skip the vertical climb to get here. The Visual Arts Centre holds many roles and is an open, multi-directional art space that focuses on art learning and exchange. Workshops, talks, studios, exhibition hall, lecture theatre, movies, multi-purpose rooms. Their purpose is to nurture young art talents and to bring a wider vision for Hong Kong. Today, I went to see what was hanging on their walls and what was open to the public to view. They also have a movie they show most Saturdays around 1:30PM (check their website on this before you go). Their current exhibition was one artist, all pieces were for sale and the artist herself was present painting on sight. The exhibition space is intimiate, welcoming and much larger that I would have thought. In their little lobby as well, they have all sorts of brochures, leaflets, books about all things going on around the city pertaining to the art world. Some great info is in their racks...so don't skip taking a peak so you are in the know all going on in the art world around Hong Kong. This place is a bit out of the way if you are not in the area, but it an easy thing to parlay into a visit to Hong Kong Park and the Aviary.

I had been there many times but had never really explored the park in depth. This time the plan was to sit at a bench in the shadow, read for a few minutes and walk around. But it got more exciting than that...I discovered the Visual Arts Centre. Located at the West side of Hong Kong Park, it's not visible from the park. However, it's a big building classified as Grade I heritage and built around 1900 initially used as barracks for married British officers and then turned into a space devoted to local artists. On the day I visited there was a free photograph exhibition, by the entrance and along the corridor. Besides that part of the building, they have an exhibition hall, a lecture theatre and studios that can be hired by artists to perform their arts. They also organize lectures, workshops and seminars. Although they conduct really interesting programmes, they are mainly in Cantonese and directed to the local public only. It's a great place for a cultural break if you are around Hong Kong park, the exhibitions are usually interesting and it's worth visiting the building itself, as it's a piece of Hong Kong history. What I like the most about the place though is the fact that it was created to devote some space for art creation only, so that local artists could develop their creativity.

Their turn over for producing a shirt was much faster as they were ready the next day, and small fixes were even available the same day. They were very friendly and talkative so I felt a sense of higher transparency while going through this process. Don't be afraid to ask questions and tell them if something isn't how you want it to be! They were very willing to work together with me. Be prepared to go for multiple fittings! I fitted my shirt twice. If you want your shirt to fit right the first time, that is just how it should be. The shirts I got fit amazing and I am very happy with this experience.

Think backpacks, tote bags, handbags, wallets, luggage tags, makeup pouches etc. The quality of their stuff is great too - Some things, like the tote bags, are available in oil cloth which is great because it's water-resistant. You don't need to worry about your bag soaking up all that rainwater on a pouring day! I love how each item is available in a bunch of different prints. A lot of their themes are florals - one of my favorites is a sort of rose garden-esque pattern set among a cream-colored background. I also really like one that features colorful birds. Since this is a UK brand, some of their patterns are quite 'English', like prints of the London bus and of English nutcracker soldiers. Their prints change every season, so this kind of compels me to come into Cath Kidston whenever I pass by it to see what's new! Unfortunately, Cath Kidston is a little pricey - an oil cloth tote bag will set you back more than $250. But if you think about it, it's something that's of great quality and can be reused all the time. They do have end-of-season sales with items going at up to 40% off, so it's definitely worth checking out then! Besides bags and accessories, they also do things like kitchenware and toiletries, such as hand cream sets and lip balms. The toiletries all smell heavenly floral - but nothing too overpowering. The kitchenware is adorable! I would love to throw out all our boring plates and cups and trade them for the ones that are available here. If you're looking to get a good gift for a friend's birthday, you just might find what you want here. They have many assistants and when I get my hair dyed or roots retouched it's usually one of the assistants who would do it. I'm not sure how strong their English skills are as I speak to YY in mandarin and he speaks Cantonese obviously and well, I've only ever seen Asians here. But I do know many expat friends who come here - I was introduced by my friend and I've done the same with many of my friends. The price is extremely reasonable, you can't get a haircut and retouch of roots in central for under 800 but here I pay around $3xx. The only reason why a star was taken off is because the place smells like cigarettes as I think they allow their customers to smoke here, not that I've seen it but well, it's an Asian business kind of like how you can't smoke in clubs yet it still happens.

It also has a couple of restaurants located in the basement level. The best thing about this centre is that it leads to the entrance to the MTR station. Little did I know that I might stumble upon this gem when I was on my way to the Café Pacific inside Shui On Centre. As I was taking the escalator to the second floor, I could not help but notice on my left was this colourful store that had stuffed animals, school bags, books on display and I was like "That looks cool". And it only got better. Turns out this place is called Bookazine and it has branches everywhere in Hong Kong. As a bookstore, Bookazine of course provides selection of magazines, stationery. However, the best part is that it has CANDY STAND there and the variety of candies there are unbelievable, most are from the States and I immediately acted like a school boy literally in a candy store grabbing all kind of sweet. Apart from that, they always have tote bags, greet cards, etc. On top of that, they also have kids corner (which is really thoughtful as the grownups are reading, the kids can read some children books or choose to relax throwing beanbags there). They mainly sell English books so now you have one more place to go to look for your books except Metro and the other one. On their website you may also order books there and have the delivery or pickup at the store as well. I would say that this is one of the best bookstores I have seen in Hong Kong with its superb service and most importantly, the candy stand... Actually I am quite surprised to have found this place as it is really hidden and I did not see one single customer there when I was there on that day... well, good for me to spend some alone time there then.
