The company I work for in El Segundo has been looking for a landscaper for a few months now. Many I reached out to in our area never responded back to me or quoted me crazy high pricing for the work we needed. Gabriels Tree Services on the other hand was fast to respond, were very friendly, and had someone out to our location insanely fast. The person they sent out was also very friendly and did a great job. I am including some before and after photos of the area the landscaper took care of for us in front of our office. He got everything done by himself in just over two hours and made sure the entire area was cleaned and that it had my approval. They came to our neighbor's for tree trimming and more, and a few of us poured out and signed them up. They trimmed our olive tree and seemed knowledgable doing so, then cleaned up the gigantic pile of branches, every last one. We received three written bids to remove a dead palm tree the height of a telephone pole from our home in Westwood, ranging from $1,500 to $1,800 with $2,400 being the most expensive. We chose the high bidder, Gabriel Tree Service, because in their proposed contract they promised to rappel down the large and heavy chunks of the tree with pulleys, consistent with the best practices for this type of tree removal. This approach is used to ensure safety to the plants on the ground, the sprinkler and lighting systems, the stucco wall next to the tree, and the newly installed driveway with pavers set in sand. They also promised to send a staff person to carefully remove the mature bushes two days before the tree removal so that there would be minimum damage and the plants could be replanted once the palm was removed. That person did not show up until the day of the removal. Imagine my surprise when I went out to see the five mature bushes ripped out by the roots and the tree climber dropping the enormous and heavy chunks of the trunk directly on the ground. He would not stop until I said I wasn't going to pay since he was not complying with the contract work order. He said he refused to do the job with pulleys as specified in the contract because it was too dangerous. He also shouted insults, accusing me of "not caring about his life", stating "I could die using the pulleys". We had no control at this point over the process since the owner, Jose Becerra, was not at the property and refused to control his worker despite my phone calls imploring him to personally intercede and manage the work. Once the work was completed, when we proposed reducing his fee by the cost to professionally replace the mature bushes that were destroyed, Mr. Beceera threatened to place a lien on the property. Given our emotionally taxing experience with this contractor, I would discourage all homeowners in the greater Los Angeles area from employing this tree service who demonstrated no professional integrity and was extremely difficult to deal with. read more

The crew removed 3 trees and trimmed one in approximately 7 hours. They came before they were scheduled but didnt start until it was time. They kept to themselves and worked around obstacles. Best part is they cleaned up everything when they were done. Communication with John was easy and hes very patient. He really took the time to explain things and set up was a breeze. I called this company along with several others to get a quote to remove the palm trees from my yard. For one they were the lowest of all. The workers were on time, very kind, professiona and very knowledgeable about the work they were performing. One of the workers even showed me the fruit of the palm which is in the heart of it. We have a hillside in our backyard and there is a large property above us. When tropical storm Hillary hit in August a huge mudslide from the property above us came down on our hill, which has a 40-foot oak tree on it. My previous tree service was too busy to look at my oak so after searching for a tree company with great reviews I chose Gabriel's Tree Service. They told me that I needed a certified arborist to check my oak to make sure that it was intact. They referred one to me and he came out to inspect my tree within 4 days. He said that my beautiful oak was in danger of falling on my house and had to be removed. The arborist wrote a report and then Gabriel's Tree Service helped me to get a permit from the city to remove the oak (as it is a protected tree) within a week which is really fast. They scheduled the removal quickly, did an excellent job and cleaned up. Everyone was very nice. I definitely recommend Gabriel's Tree Service and will use them from now on. read more

So I believe he may have had my review deleted BUT called this company for a palm tree removal and was told to take a picture of the tree that needed to be removed. Sent the picture and was told the price was $1850. No problem. Went to get the money to send the 15% down payment to him and as I was leaving the bank from depositing money into my account he texts me and says that the tree is too dirty and so now the price is $2200. Confused, I ask him what does he mean by the tree being too dirty and how does that bring the price up (I mean, trees come from the dirt right?) and he tells me that he went to my house and saw the tree and it's too dirty. So now I'm even more confused because number one, you never told me you were coming to my home and number two, you didn't have access to my backyard to see the tree since again, I was not home. So how could you see that the tree is "too dirty" in comparison to the photo I sent you? That's when he tells me, I did have access to the tree. HOW!? I never gave you access to my yard. So then he says, well, I drove by and saw it from the front yard. So again, what was different from the up close pictures I sent you, to your view of my backyard tree from the front yard of my home? So I tell him we respectfully decline their services (felt like he was trying to get over) and I added a review on Google. That's when he sends me a text upset that I added a one star review based on MY EXPERIENCE and when I followed up in response to his text message with a phone call to discuss this further, he began yelling at me, talking over me, degrading me as a person, making comments like "can you even read?" And being overall disrespectful. I told him that as a contractor you should contact the customer if you want to see the property before doing the work and I would have been more than happy to give you access. But to lie and say that you did and then say, well I can see it from the front yard, without during an up close inspection, I find it difficult to see how you can add an extra $400 just based on your view from again, the front yard. Mind you he also didn't even get out of the car (we checked the security cameras so if he did come by the house, he did just that, and drove by the house. No one stopped nor did they get out of their cars during the time in which he stated he came to my property). So after being spoken to inappropriately by this vendor, and after having him hang the phone in my face, some time goes by AND HE STILL continues to message me with some pictures of a fire department I'm assuming helping someone with a tree or out of a tree. After being spoken to the way he did, I simply asked him to refrain from further communication. Overall, horrible experience! Wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy! The crew was very responsible and worked safely and promptly. It was a challenging job that they completed very well. Due to the excessive amount of rain the brush was heavy and thick. These guys did a fantastic job at a reasonable price! We had a very large dead Catalpa tree in our parkway and a deadline for tree and stump removal. The hold up was the City of LA, which is backed up months in terms of clearing permits. Gabriel's excellent office crew worked with us to make everything happen, even sending their bee guy out at 8pm last minute to deal with a hive we didn't know we had so that work could begin the next morning. I had to cancel my service with this company as they did not show up when scheduled. They were to be at my property at 9am, this was agreed between myself and John, and at 945 I called to find out where they were. I was told that they would be coming between 11-1230 instead. When I complained that they should have notified me, John told me to calm down and tried to explain that he was doing me a favor by showing up later to not disturb the tenants, when we both agreed to 9am as being late enough in the morning. He then proceeded to tell me that I did not need to be on the site, which I do. As manager I have to oversee the work and make sure that nothing is damaged. I don't like being told by services I am hiring what I should or should not feel and how to manage my building. I have worked in customer service enough years to know how to respond to a customer who is unhappy, and John did not do any of that. He never once made an attempt to understand why I was upset, or to apologize for the schedule change--when it was clearly not about my convenience, but his. I don't understand why contractors feel that it is okay to change the time they show up without notifying the customer, but it is not okay with me. I cancelled the job and went with another company who at least is upfront about not being able to schedule at a specific time. read more

While I was in no particular rush to get the tree in my front yard trimmed up again (it had been about 5 years since its last cut), I started searching around for trimmers in the area who might be able to take on a 35 foot tree that desperately needed a cut. I was operating on a one month window. The five star reviews were a good start and as I looked through them, they seemed promising. I requested a quote and shortly thereafter got a response from John who requested my address to come take a look at the tree while I was at work. From there things moved really quickly. John messaged me via Yelp the next morning (again, while I was at work) with a price that was in the ballpark range for a tree of my size and so I agreed to schedule a trim. Little did I know that he had guys "five minutes away" finishing up another job and could have them there within the hour. Before they did anything, he gave me a call and went over what their plan was and asked if there was anything additional he wanted done to the tree. My requests pretty much fell in line with what they planned, so we moved forward. My surveillance camera shows they arrive just before 9 a.m. and got to work. The whole job took them a little over an hour to complete and they did a really good job of cleaning up the leaves and branches from the trim. They also took care not to damage any of the plants around the tree. Payment was through Zelle (basically like Venmo but its affiliated with major banks). If you choose to pay with credit card, there's a 3% fee charged on top of whatever John quotes you. I had never used Zelle and was a bit uneasy about sending such a large amount of money over an instant payment app but proceeded nonetheless and it was a rather smooth, painless process. John will then bug you to write a review for them (hence why I'm here now writing this late on a Monday night) but he means well. I'm sure you could decline writing one, but his crew did a great job and their entire process was very well organized and efficient that it'd be a shame not to post some feedback. They came, they saw, they conquered. Really great service. We had 2 very large trees that were in extremely awkward, tight spots behind our house that were causing a lot of problems for us and neighbors. There other nearby homes are in close proximity to the trees that they had to be mindful of during removal. Overall, great communication throughout the estimate process and job. They were professional, punctual and when they left it was as if those trees were never even there, it was pretty amazing. The only little hiccup was a broken window on our house that a rogue branch hit, and honestly I'm not surprised because of how close the trees were to the house. Whoever planted those there before we bought the house did not think it through. I found Gabriel Tree Services through Yelp and gave them call to get an estimate for our palm tree that needed to be trimmed. John gave me an estimate over the phone; I had gotten other estimates already and he was the best price I found. The crew of 3 guys came with a chipper and arrived on time. They were nice guys to talk to and explained exactly what they were going to do. They were very professional and cleaned after themselves at the end of the day. The wind was kicking very hard that day in LA, so it was hard for them to get all the dust off the street, but they did the best to pick everything up. The gentleman that climb the palm tree is very well experienced and made sure that his job looked well before he called it a day. He had me come out to check the work before he went up for the last time, to see if anything needed to be cut more or if it was fine the way he was leaving it. We live in a street in South LA and most of the houses have at least one or two of these palm trees. Most of the neighbors have stopped by to compliment their work and asked for Gabriels information.
