This review is for Chris. I feel very lucky to find someone who has this level of skill and intuition- especially with my unruly mop of hair. Chris has a great sense of what balances the face, and never pressures you. His hair wash includes a scalp massage, so stress relieving. The most important part- I believe he actually has fun cutting hair- you can actually see his enjoyment in it. Thank you Chris! read more

I've seen Amanda twice now. The first time was just a cut but it looked so good that I came back for another cut and this time added partial highlights. I've never dyed my hair before and she was so patient with me and all my questions and helped me choose the right color for the look I was going for. I'm really happy with the new results! She gave me the happy transformation I was looking for. Thank you Amanda! read more

Outstanding customer service. Chris and Amanda were kind enough to fit my daughter into their busy schedule. They made sure she didn't have to maneuver their salon stairs when I mentioned that she was recovering from a recent leg injury. Chris was also very thorough and gentle, washing, cutting, and styling her hair. It was definitely a pleasant and much appreciated experience for us. They certainly deserve their high Yelp rating! read more

I have been seeing Amanda Anderson for cut and colors for at about 4 years. She is highly skilled and has an incredible eye for color and blending. I have kept her on her toes as I often want to switch up my color treatment and every time she is a good listener, careful and intuitive with my vision...and she's also very good with time management. I love that she is also very fun to talk to and has a good sense of humor, and she can chat about things but she can also mellow out if you need quiet time. Here are some pictures of her latest work for me. Highly recommend Amanda! read more

Chris is the best!!! My review is so delayed as I have been going to Chris since 2016 and I have always walked out of the salon with a bright smile and wonderful hair. Whether it's a total change of hairstyle, or just a trim, always 100% satisfaction. I have long, wavy, thin and frizzy Asian hair which is rare and not the easiest to manage, Chris always gives me good tips on how to style them too. He's observant and great in listening to your needs or wants. He might not be the most talkative hair stylist, he's laser focused while he's cutting your hair. but this is more than perfect to have a silent haircut for an introvert like me. The salon is also super clean and the other staff are always nice and welcoming. Easy to book online. 10 stars! read more

Very nice! She's attentive and quick. She knew exactly how to handle my hair and what to expect from it in the coming months. The final job on my beard was incredible! The most perfect trim I've ever gotten in my life! I'll be going back again and again! read more

My hair was getting long and falling flat and shapeless. I booked online with Amanda and got a really great cut even though I didn't really know exactly what I wanted just the elements like the length and layers and general shape. I loved that we went through my typical styling and hair routine because even after the salon styling, the next day the cut looks great for my quick home blow dry and brush. Even the next day after waking up my hair falls nicely. Amanda also has really great energy and made me feel pretty comfortable since I'm usually a bit nervous trying new salons. The hair washing stations also are the most comfortable hair washing stations I've been at since they support the neck and head really well. read more

I had an appointment with Amanda. My hair was getting long and dull, and I was looking for something fresh for the spring that elevated my curls and framed my face. I didn't know exactly what I was looking to achieve, but knew I wanted it to look fuller, and be able to pull it back into a ponytail still. She talked me through the pros and cons of different options, and asked thoughtful questions that I would have never considered without her expertise. She really knows her stuff, and I'm really happy with the end result! It's exactly what's I was hoping for! read more

Chris is a very skilled hair dresser! You won't regret coming here. I could tell by the way he cut my hair this morning that he was going to do a phenomenal job. I just got home from another fabulous haircut and color by Amanda Anderson. I've been seeing Amanda for some years now; every visit we would try something different - variations of the same theme. Amanda offers suggestions and advice when I'm unsure about a change. Sometimes we just have to go at it and the results never disappoint. A good sign of a good haircut and color is when you get compliments from strangers! Salon G is the great neighborhood salon on busy 9th Avenue close to Muni lines. read more

This is review is for Steven. About a month ago he so graciously saved my hair from a very bad highlighting job. He was able to transform my brassy orange hair to a beautiful chestnut hue that brought out my brown eyes. I was so impressed by his skills, I booked another appointment the next month to get a bayalage/ombre and he did not disappoint. I showed him a few pictures and he once again brought magic to my locks. He takes special care of every detail and has a way of making you feel special in his presence. Steven is very warm, kind, compassionate, and funny. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to look and feel fabulous! read more

G Salon - From Steven! Amazing! - Hair Salons Near Me - San Francisco, California

I got a haircut here from Chris a couple days ago and he was so informative!! I got a chop from my sister (who has zero experience with hair) because all the salons were still closed & needless to say, she did a horrendous job. Chris immediately knew what to do in order to fix it. I have really thick, course, wavy hair and it would usually take 2 people to work on my hair, but I was amazed by how fast and efficient he was! He knew a lot about my hair type and informed me about keratin treatment to help with frizz and shine. I'll definitely come back for that once my hair grows longer. I left the salon satisfied with my haircut. read more

It was my first time going to this salon. I was looking for a decent place to do a cut and all over color without breaking the bank. The last time I left a hipster salon I ended up paying around $450+ !!!! So I decided to venture somewhere else this time and found G-Salon. I booked online with Mabel. I knew nothing about Mabel prior to my appointment. Mabel was considerate of my needs, efficient and effective. In the end It was $173 plus 20% tip =$210. I was extremely happy with the results. My hair feels and looks so healthy. I look forward to coming again soon. read more

I moved to SF in the fall and had been looking for a salon for months. I have thick wavy-curly hair, and have definitely had some not-so-great experiences with hair stylists so I was a bit hesitant to get it cut. I took a chance and trusted the good reviews for G Salon, and I can confirm - it was a great experience! I got a simple layered haircut from Chris, and he was very friendly, polite, and professional. I was able to get a last-minute appointment the same day, and the salon was pretty quiet (aside from the fun 2000s music they had playing, haha). I like how my hair turned out and would definitely come back :) read more

I seriously recommend Steven, he fixed my haircut and gave my hair a complete makeover for a reasonable price. My hair is the best it's ever been and the first time I had short hair in a very long time, Steven helped me rock short hair. I love my hair!!! Debra has been my stylist when we first met, which has been 11 yrs ago. She always gives me the right cut and I love it!!! Today I came in for babylight, bayalage and root melt and all I have to say is I can't stop looking at myself because of the transformation she gave me!!! I was worried that my hair wouldn't come out the way I wanted, because my hair is dark and coarse, with the ash brown I wanted I wasn't too sure...but it's exactly want I've been wanting. Thank you my love! She's very professional and know exactly what she's doing. Any questions you may have, if it's your first time with a new style or color, she will explain everything. I highly recommend booking Debra if you want a professional! " read more

Before my last visit I would have given a five star review, but unfortunately, after my last visit this isn't the case anymore, and to make a long story short, just because I don't get any sort of fancy hair treatments (wash and layer cut my long hair only) and I don't dress fancy enough, they not only under serviced and over charged me, but they also mocked me on site, to make sure I woudn't come back. Long story: After my hair was washed, I noticed she hadn't offered a hand massage like the previous times and rushed me to my chair. After exchanging a few words, suddenly two other customers begin laughing out loud along with a couple of employees, and as they were doing it, my hairdresser flipped my chair around (like she never had done before) so I could stare straight into the laughter which immediately stopped (and one of the employees left) leaving me with nothing but an assumption that it was about me, which as you can imagine is pretty awful sensation to feel when you are an introvert with many psychological issues because of bullying. Despite not using or buying any fancy products this time around, not only I was charged slightly more than usual but after coming home I realized my hair hadn't been cut properly. My lesson was learned. While I believe establishments have the right to choose what kind of service they provide to their customers, I have to say that unless you plan to destroy your hair with treatment after treatment and unless you dress like you're going to a cocktail party every day, I don't recommend this place at all. read more

This is a long overdo review. I'm reminded to finally write this because I'm looking at hairstyles for my hair appointment later today. What I haven't mentioned is that I live in Washington, D.C., and I am still returning to Chris! Chris has been my "hair guy" for over a decade, since I first moved to SF for graduate school. His salon was down the street from my house - It was called 10th Ave Salon then. I chose him because he was inexpensive ($20 at the time), and I didn't need anything fancy. I have straight black hair, so it's often just a trim or adding some layers. Why I stayed with him until the day I left SF, and even now when I return to visit, is because he does an amazing job. I usually arrive to my appointments with an idea of how I want my hair cut, sometimes with photographs as well. Chris will gently remind me that many hairstyles don't look quite the same on black hair (boo!) - like how a wispy short do will not look nice on my thick straight hair. I've really learned to appreciate his opinion, and that's what they are. He never dictates my style. He's yet to fail me. In addition, Chris cut my hair twice now for donations to Locks of Love. I've loved my short dos after both haircuts. Over the past 11 or 12 years, his prices have gone up quite a bit (not unreasonably so with inflation) and his salon is a bit trendier, but what matters is the haircuts still maintain the same quality. I'm sad to be across the country now, where I've yet to find a new "hair guy", but I will continue to stop here for a cut or trip whenever I'm in town. read more

Went in for a haircut the other week and Chris did a great job! He gave me a cut that works work a few different parts which I had never been able to figure out and was super thorough in layering out my deceptive amount of hair. I can't recommend Amanda enough!!! She did the best cut and color of my life. DEBRA IS THE SWEETEST MOST TALENTED HAIR STYLIST EVER! I discovered her through a good friend that has been going to her for a while now. She was so welcoming right off the bat. I was coming in after not having had my hair done in over a year and after having extensions in for my wedding so I was a little nervous. I wanted to go lighter and get rid of any yellow tones and a simple cut. She made a few suggestions on how to get the results I wanted and I just felt so comfortable because she really seemed to know and love the work she did. She explained everything she was doing as she was doing it which I wasn't used to and thought that was so great! I would most definitely recommend Debra to anyone looking to get a flawless color job and cut with someone who knows and loves what they do! read more

I still consider G Salon a hidden gem in the Inner Sunset. I'm picky about who cuts my hair, how it's cut, and how consistently someone cuts it, all for a reasonable salon price (rare, I know). But G Salon delivers on all those counts. This has been my go-to salon. Every 3-4 weeks I walk in with a mess on my head and leave with a clean, sleek, and stylish cut. Every male cut includes wash, cut, rinse, and style - it's amazing. I leave feeling like a new person every time. I've been seeing Amanda Anderson for 2 years and she's helped transformed my hair into a style I wear regularly and really love. I came in with an idea, she patiently walked me through her process and experience with similar hair styles (mine is straight asian male hair), her honest and helpful thoughts, and we began the transformation. Amanda's always welcoming with a genuine smile, pays close attention to my styling requests and the actual cutting and actually takes the time to get to know me as a person. I've gotten to know her personally as well. It's not just an in-and-out salon, it's truly a neighborhood salon you just keep going back to. I have her on speed dial and we're usually able to arrange a cut ASAP. They are just good people here. I highly recommend this place. You get luxury salon treatment at a reasonable price. If you've never heard of G Salon, give it a try - you'll never need to try another place again. Seriously. read more

Mabel is great - cannot say enough good things about her & her haircuts! She is patient and puts A LOT of time into each client. Amanda is great at her craft. I am a balding guy with most of my hair on the sides and back and it takes a lot of skill to shape and layer what I have left. When I found Amanda and had my first cut with her, I was so happy and will be a customer for life. My only concern in writing this review is that she might get so busy that I won't be able to get an appointment with her. I would not even hesitate to get a cut with Amanda whether you are male or female. read more

I've been going to Chris for probably close to 10 years. Truth be told, I've "flirted" with other stylists during that period (10 years is a long time to be "monogamous" right?), but no one has come close to cutting my hair as well as Chris. More recently, I moved to Marin and tried to locate someone a bit more geographically convenient, but even people up here who have great reputations didn't cut my hair nearly as well as Chris. And so, I make the drive across the Golden Gate to get my hair cut by Chris. I also went to his new location (now known as g salon and formerly known as 10th Ave Salon and before that, Trendy Cut),and it's gorgeous! It definitely makes his previous location look like a real pit! His new place has beautiful white chairs that would be right at home in a very hip salon in South Beach (Florida, that is...) or a common area in the SF St. Regis--it's very modern and sleek. It is dramatically different from before and a significant upgrade. Chris is a great stylist, he's efficient, and he's really nice. I could not recommend him more highly. I sometimes wonder why his schedule's not more full, and I think that's a function of how humble and low-key he is as the quality of his haircuts are fantastic. read more

Amanda does a great job trimming my hair and I enjoy every visit. I have long, straight, fine hair and she's the only stylist I've every worked with who reliably trims it evenly every time. She's been trimming my hair for the past eight years and I would not want to go to anyone else. read more

Chris is the only person I trust with my hair. I refuse to let anyone else cut my hair. I started going to Chris when he was at 10th Avenue Salon and continue to see him now that he is at G Salon (just around the corner from the previous location!) Chris will NEVER... -Give you 1cm bangs -Give you a mullet -Give you crooked layers -Most importantly, Chris will never make you leave the salon in tears (The above are all things OTHER salons did to me without fail) Chris will ALWAYS... -Make sure he thoroughly understands what you want before putting those scissors anywhere near your hair. When I come in and say noncommittally, "Yes please cut off an inch", he won't make a cut until he shows me his definition of "an inch" with his fingers and has me confirm. -Make sure he's giving you a haircut that will actually look good on you. When I kept coming in for bang trims he eventually suggested that I should grow my bangs out and gave me some tips. That being said, when I actually had bangs he was the only person who knew that "Please trim my bangs" meant "Please make my bangs look GOOD" (unlike other salons who heard, "Please make me look as bad as possible") -Make you walk out of the salon with bouncy, voluminous, blowdried look-at-me hair If I ever move out of the Sunset I'm still coming back to get my hair cut here. Never risking getting my hair cut at the mall ever again, not when Chris is around :) read more

I also have been seeing Chris for over 10 years now. He used to work right around the corner from me at a tiny hole-in-wall barbershop over by 31st Ave and Noriega. I then followed him when he opened his own place over at 10th Avenue Salon. Unfortunately, because of the mechanics of how Yelp works, it looks like Chris is going to lose all those wonderful 5 star reviews from 10th Avenue Salon, hopeful they should still live over here in case you need more affirmation of his skills. http://www.yelp.com/biz/10th-avenue-salon-san-francisco-3 Chris really gets hair. He's a pleasure to work with, especially if you're not sure what you want. You can be brutally honest with him and say "I have a fat face, I need hair that will work with that." And he can pull off something that doesn't just work but actually compliments your features. I introduced my girlfriend from San Jose to Chris and now she regularly comes up just for haircuts from Chris. I wonder how many other people travel from outside SF for that as well. He also has been super accommodating in giving me a last minute haircut before a last minute job interview and if you're ever been in that position you know how righteous it is to know that your stylist has your back. read more

You cannot find a better haircut than from Chris. He is truly gifted at finding the right style and cut (& color) for each individuals' hair, face shape, coloring, etc. After paying nearly twice as much at other salons downtown and in the Fillmore, I've been a convert for nearly 3 years. A friend comes here from Santa Cruz for his haircuts. AND he is such a nice person! read more
