I haven't got my hair dyed this color before and wanted to try a new haircut as well, so I was a bit nervous since it was my first time here, but I'm so glad I took a chance because they made my hair look really nice! This salon is excellent. I was in desperate need for a complete overhaul of my (long, frizzy) hair and looked all over town to find someplace that I felt comfortable going to. Because I wanted Japanese straightening, it was important that I go somewhere that didn't over do chemicals, had solid reviews and where I didn't feel like the people would be distracted or too busy. I had such a pleasant experience at Be Salon. I don't have extremely curly hair, but it isn't straight either. Im 50, have a lot of frizz, and some kinky grey hair. I had a Japanese Straightening treatment and trim. I was concerned about the harsh chemicals, but Ben & Elke assured me that they were not going to touch my scalp with the solution. They work fantastically together. Ben is extremely meticulous, thorough, and attentive. He pulled up photos on his phone to be sure of what I wanted for style. He really takes his time, and I really appreciate that. They both travel to Japan to get & bring back the Japanese Straightening solutions, too! Elke was so sweet and made sure I was comfortable & entertained throughout the 4 hour process. She brought out an iPad and uploaded a food documentary on Netflix, and made sure it kept running. This is an added extra touch that makes this small business incredible. I love my straight and shiny new hair. I got caught in the rain walking my dog, and NO frizz. I can sleep with wet hair, and NO frizz. It's so easy to take care of and get ready. No more straightening iron or blowing it out straight to walking outside and having it just fuzz up. I love it! It's been 84 years... jk, 6 months since I got my last haircut. But as soon as SF announced reopening, I was dying to get out and refresh my hairstyle. I browsed Yelp extensively to try and find a place that was affordable, experienced with Asian hair, and could deliver a specific cut/style (when I'm looking for a basic trim, I just go for one of those $15 places in Chinatown). I read the reviews here and was surprised by the great ratings. I messaged for an appointment and had to wait 3 weeks (so book ahead). But, for the price and the good press, I was willing to wait. I'd say Ben delivered. I told him what I wanted, and he gave me his feedback/showed me reference photos as we discussed the look I envisioned. Found Ben and Be Salon on Yelp - discovered that this is a small business salon run by Ben and his wife. I came on for a haircut and decided to get my roots colored as they were quite white (not even gray). I'm allergic to hair coloring but decided to take a chance as this was a new place for me and new hair coloring product. Sad to say I'm still allergic. But I was happy with the haircut Ben gave and even the root touch up despite being allergic. I'll be coming back and next time I may do the Japanese straightening. read more

Came for a haircut, left with a great experience! I typically prefer a no-frills fast cut, but 3 weeks ago I was left with an uneven haircut from another place. I had to fix it. I came to Ben after hearing great things from other people. I wasn't disappointed. Started with a wash, shampoo, and head massage (loved it). Then moved onto a meticulous cut from Ben. I showed him a photo of what I wanted my hair to look like. He made sure that everything was done well. Ben also used the double serrated thinning scissor with caution. I think that's one mark of a pro. Some people like to just chomp through all your hair with it which leaves it too thin and limpy after. Played on my phone and had coffee and snacks while Ben worked to even out my hair. Time passed pretty quick and voila! Done! Oh also, I liked the chair, it had a cushiony lumbar support to it. Very satisfied and will 100% come back the next time I'm in the area. Bottom line: Ben fixed my hair and I had a great experience at his salon (wash, massage, comfortable chair, coffee, and snacks)! Ben is probably my favourite hairdresser. I used to frequent Ben's salon back in Hong Kong, but once he moved to America I haven't had the chance to get my hair cut/styled by him as I live in the UK. That is why I couldn't miss the opportunity of having my hair cut by him again -whilst visiting my family in America! He is as caring and detail-oriented today as he was before in Hong Kong. He never fails to meet my needs and always takes the time to make sure everything is perfect for his clients. Not only that, his wife Elke was very welcoming, treating me and my mum as being more than a client and making sure we felt as comfortable as we possibly could (she was also very good at washing my hair). The salon is small but very bright and tidy, including facilities such as a large (actually massive) selection of coffee and water to make sure we're hydrated and also snacks! It did take a long while for my hair to be done (bare in mind I did have my hair dyed and cut) but it was well worth it. 10/10 would recommend friends. read more

Ben is not only an excellent stylist, he is also very nice, courteous, and friendly. It was so easy to make an appointment. I called but didn't left a message and Ben actually called back in 20 minutes. I had not had any salon calling me back when they saw just a missed call. I am even happier when I learned that I was able to get a same- day appointment. The salon itself is VERY clean and neat. Ben was very patient and spending a lot of time looking at my hair, discussing and explaining his recommendations. More importantly, he also has great skills executing on those recommendations. I've been coming to Be Salon for almost a year now and this review is long overdue! I'm quite picky when it comes to salons and I want my hairstylist to take their time to cut my hair. I rather spend the extra money and time to have my hair cut and treated well. Ben and his assistant are always patient, polite, professional, and attentive. They always offer me drinks and snacks! I always call about an hour ahead of time to make sure they are free. I have straight bangs that often needs maintenance and my hair often dries out. I come in once a month to get my bangs trimmed and a hair treatment. I always get my hair washed and the scalp massages are to die for. My scalp feels clean after, no flakes or itch. After the treatment, my hair is always silky soft and it lasts for weeks! Ben is always meticulous and takes his time to cut my hair. They are cut perfectly every time. When I get a whole hair cut, he gives me suggestions to fit my personal style. The salon is clean, well lit, and they had noticeable clorox wipes/hand sanitizers/air filter. I think this place has really great customer service and I'll definitely be a repeat customer. I was long overdue for a haircut (still had pandemic hair) and Ben worked some magic. I have frizzy,thick, wavy hair so I was impressed at the end result Ben achieved using only a brush and hair dryer. Additionally, I'm a bit hesitant when hairstylists mention layers but Ben was pretty knowledgeable about how layering the inside of the hair just results in pouf w/ my hair texture so doing long layers was the way to go. Overall, Getting your hair cut here is a great,relaxing experience so I don't recommend rushing through the process! Call in and make an appointment,and let them wash your hair. He was patient and meticulous, making sure to pay attention to what I wanted while offering his own expertise and advice. They offer better service than the best salons downtown and it's a super nice guy and his wife who run the place. I came for a hair straightening. Usually it takes 5 hours at other salons. Here, he and his wife BOTH worked on me, so it only took a fraction of the time. Super reasonable ($250) and they offered me tea and snacks throughout. This guy and his wife owned a salon in Hong Kong for 25 years. She gives the BEST head massage ever and with a hair straightening you gey your hair washed 3 times! I finally found my favorite salon! Ben, I will see you again in 3 months! Ben examined my hair first and told me step by step, what he was going to do. I had a hair style in mind already and was dead set on it, but Ben was very honest about the style I chose and told me why it wouldn't work. In the end, I let him take the reign and ended up loving his choice of hair style on me! The shampoo lady (didn't get her name unfortunately) gave me the most relaxing wash ever! I swear, she took over 10 minutes to massage my scalp, neck and temple. She was super gentle (didn't splash water on my face at all), took her time and made sure, there was no residue in my ears. This salon does not rush you at all. I truly felt pampered. I was offered coffee, water, tea and WiFi password. Please keep in mind, there is only one person, (Ben) who cuts hair and one person, who washes. I was in and out in over an hour. If you are in a rush, please let them know. Wow! Finally I found a nice hair stylist in San Francisco. Ben is so patient to explain how he would design the hair style for me since I was due for a new one. I have thin and fine hair. He used good cutting technique to give my hair a decent volume that I ever had before. Not only that, it is so easy to take care my hair every morning.
