James is a pleasure to work with (so easy going and professional) and he is always around working and managing during the project. For the work A Better Craft did for my project - see below. WORK COMPLETED: Painted my unfinished basement from top to bottom (including painting and tacking up messy wires and finding a way to conceal them), smoothed over an uneven concrete basement floor, patched up parts of the ceiling where you could see the rafters, installed recessed lights and moved electrical outlets, built a closet with doors that his team constructed from a picture I showed them, patched up and painted my cracking concrete steps in the front and back of my house, installed a ceiling fan in my bedroom, hung heavy gym wall mirrors on the concrete walls in my basement, eliminated my rodent issue by adding wood siding under my steps and deck and had my iron gate repaired in front of my home. James is a talented painter and he knows his team well in addition to knowing all the local hardware, paint, and electrical stores which helps with product and pricing. You will enjoy working with A Better Craft!

As an architect, I had very specific requirements and quality expectations. The best thing about Hector though is his "can do" positive attitude and his great work ethic; I really enjoyed working with him.

He was confident he could pull it off and his assurance was a relief. It seemed like every corner we turned there was a problem with asbestos, old pipes, structural floor damage or wiring in the way. Matt was extremely adaptive and creative on the fly. His communication through everything was our saving grace. From steam pipes in the way or the floors caving in, it was extremely impressive to watch the solutions come into play. He had pipes rerouted or removed altogether and completely re-framed portions of our floors. One part of the floor was a brick floor over a basement that had started to cave in. Matt knocked out all the loose brick and poured a slab that tied into the solid brick. I had no idea how a giant hole in our brick floor was going to be fixed but he adapted seemingly without a hitch in the entire project. I would highly recommend Matt and his company Exedra!

My husband and I knew Matt through a…read morefriend and hired him to renovate our NYC apartment (kitchen and 2 bathrooms) after seeing the incredible work he's done on other projects, including his own homes. Matt is a true partner throughout the process, and gave me great advice every step of the way. This was my first remodeling experience, and his guidance was both invaluable and comforting - I felt like I was in really good hands. He worked closely with me in designing our space, and then handled every single aspect of our renovation - from sourcing materials, to demolition, to coordinating with the plumber and electrician, to installing our kitchen cabinets and appliances, and re-tiling and re-grouting both of our bathrooms with new fixtures and lighting. My apartment is pre-war and therefore a little tricky when it comes to making things look level and even, however, Matt figured out how to make everything look flawless and brand new. He always remained within my budget, and continually offered solutions for how to trim costs or source materials for less. Matt is also incredibly responsive; he and I communicated frequently throughout the day when he was working in my apartment, which I really appreciated. He was a pleasure to work with, and I definitely plan on hiring Matt again if I move (although he's made my current space so wonderful, I'm not sure that will happen any time soon!). Matt is a total professional - his work turns out beautifully, and he's a pleasure to work with.

Ed showed up the day I reached out and came to the site to answer questions and prepare a quote. It was clear from the start that Bond Construction would be a perfect fit for this project. Ed was able to quickly navigate the arduous co-op approval process and provided guidance along the way. The project consisted of a fairly extensive renovation of a 2 bedroom co-op apartment in lower Manhattan. Bond Construction completed the following: new flooring throughout the entire apartment, patch/paint plaster walls and ceilings, skim coat where necessary, updated electrical work (fuse box to circuit breaker), open up a pass through between living room and kitchen, a complete kitchen gut and renovation, install all appliances, install cabinetry, install new baseboard and crown moldings, build two large decorative beams with recessed LED lighting in living room, remove pedestal sink and install new bathroom vanity. There are lots of other details I have left out but needless to say Ed and his team did an incredible job with this project. Ed was communicative throughout the renovation and his team was extremely resourceful, as they were able to come up with creative and effective solutions to any issues or unforeseen challenges that arose during the renovation. Everyone that worked on site was friendly, respectful of our building's rules, and our neighbors. Most importantly, the project was done ON TIME and ON BUDGET! We would highly recommend Ed and his team at Bond Construction and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

To pick up where someone else left off is always more challenging. Minar has many years of expertise so he was (thankfully) up for this challenge. He recognized the technical aspects of working in an older building - how the bathroom walls needed to be built out, the tile formats, how the plumbing worked, how the apartment walls could be refinished to look modern, installing custom size entry and closet doors etc. He maintained a good working relationship so I was happy to run all my ideas by him. He brings a good sense of design so it was complementary to my taste as well. He gave me a timeline and delivered on time and within budget. After much frustration owing to the snafu with the first contractor, I really enjoyed working with Minar and more importantly, I was always up to date on the progress. I highly recommend Minar's company for your next renovation project. He will get it done and do it really well.

A complete nightmare of a hire! Minar comes off as nice and knowledgeable at first, until the…read morework starts, then the nightmare begins. Minar prefers to deal in cash (red flag), and he tries to avoid actual contracts. He will try to change the price on you and leave things off contract so they can be added in/upcharged later. Classic slimy contractor move. Although we did not pay in cash, and did have a contract, he still tried to cut corners and the workers had to be watched closely to make sure they did what was contracted. The problem here is Minar drops his team off in the morning and leaves them to do whatever, no supervision at all. Although nice, they barely spoke any English and it was very difficult to communicate any issues with them. Work had to be stopped consistently to ensure they were doing what they were supposed to be doing. Scope of work: We had RH repair exterior balconies, replace stucco bottoms and install tiles on top. Work was supposed to be completed in two weeks, and it took TWO MONTHS, and they still hadn't finished by that point. Besides the absolute mess they left daily, they consistently damaged things as they went along. A few highlights: - Damaged an interior door handle/lock - Clogged a roof trough gutter with a cloth they threw into it that resulted in a leak in the building/one of the apartments during heavy rainfall, damaging the interior walls as well as some furniture - One of the workers spilled an entire 5 gallon bucket of grout water from the top floor hallway/stairwell and it leaked down two floors below leaving grout residue on the tile floors - Didn't protect the exterior of the building while doing cement work and cement ended up everywhere, facade, windows etc. They tried scrubbing it off but it just smeared everywhere We ended up firing them 3/4 of the way through the job and not paying the full amount bc they clearly were not capable of doing the work contracted. We had them pull up tile twice because they had no idea how to properly install it. We eventually hired tilers who knew what they were doing, and felt such relief that it was done properly. We're not at all happy with how the balconies turned out. We truly regret hiring RH Construction and would highly recommend anyone look elsewhere for any construction needs.
