Hot and spicy alert ! The food is fyah and your mouth will be on literal fyah and you'll feel like you are in the islands working up a sweat under the heavenly sun. Because babyyyyyy that spice don't lie. I have to admit I am such a wimp when it comes to spice levels. When the option is very spicy or mild, I'm going to always choose the latter. However, I completely surprised myself when I literally did not want to stop eating (although my insides were screaming) because the jerk chicken with rice and chickpeas was just so damn good. This was a pre-made platter and the portion was generous so I'm bracing myself for round two! I really loved that although the spiciness was at the forefront, other flavors shined through in their seasoning. I also had a veggie patty that I really enjoyed. The veggies had a nice kick and were housed in the flakiest of vessels. Everything was truly delish and I really want to go back to taste their beef patty and mac and cheese. Unpopular opinion... I don't think Oxtails belong on pizza ‍ Sorry, but I grew up in a Jamaican household and if I were to tell them some of the things people are doing with Oxtails, they'd be appalled So if you're looking for AUTHENTIC Jamaican food you guys have to stop at @fyahbuncreative near Midtown East. When I say these were the most tender oxtails I've had in a LONG TIME!!! They were literally falling off the bone, I wanted to get a shot picking them up but I couldn't pick it up without it sliding off.. that's how tender it was.. I do like my oxtails a little sweeter but that's just personal preference I thought they were really good. The beef patties were hot, fresh and full of flavor and I even tried their Jerk Chicken Mac & Cheese and CHILLLLL it was soooo good, especially with their house jerk sauce on the side to top it all off. And with the cold weather looking like it's going to settle in for a while longer, you have to try their homemade hot chocolate. Made with coconut milk, it's dairy free and just the thing to warm you up this winter. I was in NYC on business and found this place for lunch. Parking: street or lot nearby Atmosphere: relaxed. They have an outdoor patio with heat lamps. I think they need bigger ones. Today's weather wasn't too bad, so the lamps worked, but if it's colder than 42 degrees, you might be chilly. Service: The ladies were nice. The food is served from a warming station, so it's not very hot. Their menu is small, and certain foods are only served on certain days. They have the days by the food on their menu, so read carefully. Food: 1- Beef Patties good 2- Curry goat was tender and good 3- Curry chicken tender and good. Great service and food here! I came around 1:30 on a weekday and there were a few people before me. Got the jerk chicken plate with rice and beans. I thought that was all for my choice of sides, but it also came with veggies and fried plantains! Super juicy tender jerk chicken, and so flavorful. Seriously cannot I've been working in the area and never found this place. I think Yelp hid it. Truly delicious Jerk. Spicy but when you add the sweet sauce it's perfect. Go for the large for only $2 extra. You get 3 sides and so much food for $16. I've paid that and more for these pop-up food festivals that they have on the East side. Delivery to my 42nd street office was 15 minutes during lunch rush. Exciting times. Can't wait to try other menu items. read more

My husband where visiting New York to celebrate our wedding anniversary . After a few days of staying in the city and eating different cuisines, the need for that home cooked island taste panged at the depth of or bellies. I did a quick search on yelp for Jamaican cuisine and found FyahBun Creative. We walked a few blocks to get there. I must say that the food didn't disappoint. I had curry chicken with rice and peas and steamed callaloo , my husband had jerk chicken rice and peas and toss salad . I also ordered a ginger lemon drink. OMG!! So delicious. I ordered jerk chicken and was pleasantly surprised that it came already sliced. The meat was so tender it slid off the bone. I try to avoid messy fingers at work, and it was super easy to eat with just a fork. They were also so nice when I spilled some water (oops). They are now open on Fridays. Very delicious empanadas. I have been wanting to try them for a while so I came in and got the mild beef because I thought maybe the spicy would be too much. The mild was SO GOOD. Then we came back another day and the beef that they had left was the spicy beef and it was even BETTER! I am so glad that I tried both. Can't wait to try the others. The people that work here are also very nice and kind. The lady remembered me from the previous time which I appreciate in NYC which can sometimes feel impersonal. I stopped by today for a late lunch in the casual patio garden at the back of this Caribbean restaurant. This place is a real New York joint, the quintessential hole-in-the-wall, serving authentic international food prepared by the owner herself, Yvonne, the very kindly proprietor. I ordered the jerk chicken today. For $12 you get about a quarter jerk chicken with rice w peas, greens and a couple of slices of plantain. The food comes with a side of jerk sauce to up the heat and some pickles. Without the supplemental jerk sauce, I would say the spice/heat level is medium with the extra sauce you can feel the scotch bonnets start to make you sweat. I had to take off my wool hat under the space heaters out back about halfway through the meal. The chicken is tender, flavorful and falls of the bone. The rice is fluffy and tasty and the greens and plantains nicely balance out the meal. Other menu offerings include fried/stewed chicken, curry goat and chicken, oxtails and Jamaican patties. I've had the oxtails and they were delicious as well. I started coming here at the start of the pandemic shortly after this place opened and I know how hard it has been for this restaurant and others in the neighborhood to make it through. So, if you are in the area or craving some authentic Caribbean/Jamaican food you would be well-advised to stop by for a plate! read more

I got peas and rice with curried chicken which again was random. I sat down to try and was blown away by the spot on complex flavors yet simple. The patties are available every day, and I swing by there a lot for any of the Jerk Chicken, Beef or Salmon patties. the space was once elite food bar on 48th st off 1st ave and now its a jamaican restaurant which has really good island food with prices and portions that are just right. nice deco artsy decor with ample seating and the nice garden outdoor seating in the back is great during them summer days but with covid i assume there are restrictions. good patties , good jerk chicken , very good curry chicken, curry goat, fish dishes , veggie dishes , soups , and more .not a goat or oxtail muncher but give me a plate of jerk or curry chicken with 2 sides of rice and peas and steam veggies and i will be a very happy boy. ordered a few chicken patties , one curry and jerk chicken dish with sides plus some yogurt type drink that my cuz ordered at a total cost of just under 50 bucks which was well worth the cost as no food was left when we were done eating. after eating this type of food you tend to get a bit sleepy or sluggish which i assume was from the spices or sauce but no its most likely from over eating which cuz and i tend to do plenty of times.overall 4.5 stars for the jamaican food joint with the funny name. read more
