We were given a tour of the business, complete with family stories, a shucking lesson, free samples, some inside knowledge, and good laughs. This family business is all about great service to the retail buyer, which was my wife and me! The ambience of the "factory" was eclectic and fun. With was filled with tons of random family items. On the side of the building were literally 100 tons of oyster shells. We ended up buying 30 oysters at the amazing price of $1 each. He threw in a few extra samples as well. The oysters we bought were harvested a few hours earlier from the cold waters o Coos Bay. The salty brine was perfect and the oysters were so French and firm. We will go back tomorrow and buy another couple of dozen. This was the highlight of our Oregon trip so far, which has been a great trip. (Qualman Oysters is now called Augustin Oysters.)

The fish you get at a seafood store like Port Orford Sustainable Seafood is sold "right off the boat;" the stuff you can get in a supermarket has been frozen and trucked around for a very long time. As for who can eat a pound of fish, well my wife and I can. In fact, if the fish is really tasty I can eat a pound by myself.
