6days after a shellac manicure

Cramped, uncomfortable and inferior work. First visit my nails were butchered and within a week they were chipping and breaking. Second visit she again cut my nails all the way back when told not to, threw my phone on the floor and my "manicure" looked like it was done by a child since the polish was on my cuticles and skin. Again breaking and chipping by day 4. Had to make an appointment to have them fix their work only to be told that between the day I called and the day of the appointment (the next day) that their 'warranty' expired and I would be charged for the service. After a big scene they waived the charge. For a simple manicure it took almost two hours, I was sat in front of the TV showing open heart surgery and again my nails were cut way too short and again breaking within 3 days. They tried to blame it on the nail polish I choose and that's a load of crap since I've had the same polish from another salon and it lasts two weeks and my nails don't break off. This place is a waste of money and time.

Crap job, and now I can deal with the cuts she made on my hand.

I won't go there again. Long story short and after a one hour wait to get in, my hands were left in…read moreacetone for 45 minutes (30 is max limit) to remove nails while the gentleman saw to the next in line, my skin was starting feel irritated and I could feel a burn starting (I'm very fair-skinned). It just added to an already very frustrating day. Eventually a girl was free to attend to me as the gentleman whom I had butted heads with (he was luckily still busy with the person behind me - in line). Went to pay and their card machine suddenly stopped working. I was told to go to Food Basics to buy a bottle of water and ask for cash back. I never do cash back normally. Grrrrr I was there from 2pm until 5pm for nail removal + basic manicure.

I got a shellac (or gel, for my fellow Americans) manicure at Diamond Nails, and had a great…read moreexperience. It cost $25 (and if you pay cash, you don't have to pay HST -- worth it to save 13%!) They have a wide range of colors (shellac and regular) to choose from. They also offer waxing. The manicurist -- who I believe was named Amy - did a careful, meticulous job of preparing my nails. I don't get professional manicures regularly -- or care for my cuticles in any way on my own -- and my nails are generally a peeling mess. Amy made them look perfect! They don't take appointments; I walked in at around 5:15 on a weekday and waited maybe 15 minutes. They're open until 8 PM during the week and 6 PM on Saturdays, and closed on Sunday. You'll find them inside the dingy mall with the Food Basics. The only downside: the salon has a slightly chemically smell; it was off-putting at first, though I must have gotten used to it as I sat there. Everything seemed very sanitary, though, and they used an anti-fungal cream on my nails as a first step in the manicure.
