I like food with a story, and I'm charmed by this one, as years ago, Jamie and Daniela invited me (and some friends) over to their place for the concept 'Dine with...', a sort of dinner party with a professional chef. It combined wonderful food that you couldn't make yourself with the comfortable feeling of home. That same feeling has been transferred to their new restaurant, that feels both high-end and polished, but also like hanging out with friends or family. It was all the more comforting that we stopped by for Sunday lunch when there are the Sunday roast specials. We couldn't resist. Possibly the largest Yorkshire pudding that I've ever seen, a very rich gravy, perfectly crisp roasted potatoes, carrots, green beans and for me: roast pork (delicious, tender, perfect) and for husband: roast beef (tasty, he said). Our vegetarian guest had homemade gnocchi, the first time she'd tried it, and was impressed with it, as well as the generous sprinkle of almonds. The dishes we had did remind me of my first meeting with Jamie and Daniela. The food is beautiful and of a quality that's clear a professional is in charge here (he describes his cuisine as combining British and French). It's beautifully plated on gorgeous plates. But it's also not fussy or complicated food, and the real emphasis is on food that is perfectly tasty. We managed to get through the desserts too (that came with the roast dinner). A rocky road brownie, replete with marshmallows and dried fruit; and one of the best sticky date puddings I've ever had. The food really is wonderful and the hospitality unbeatable. Do go check it out!

They were excellent! To drink, my wife had a margarita and I had a skinny Pina Colada. Fresh lime juice and Cointreau in the margarita. Both were really good. The jazz duo that played that night were really great and is what attracted us to this place. When the band took a break there was 80s R&B music playing in the background. Laid back and happy crowd. Good times!

Andy, you said you would sort out my refund and i have not received any. I waited a week and texted you and called you. YOU WERE AVOIDING ME. We came there yesterday night for a table for 3 for all you can eat dumplings. We got sat down and had to wait almost 25m for the first course of dumplings to be served, and the place only had 2 tables at that time, us and another table for 3. At one point the waitress brought a portion of steamed dumplings and we thought "finally" but no, she gave it to the other table while they still had unfinished dumplings on their table. For almost an hour it seemed like there was only 1 waitress and she was doing all the work so we didn't mind waiting for her. But the annoying thing was even when they started to have more waiters, nobody was looking after us. We had to wait roughly 10-15m to get a portion of dumplings every time, while the next table, had 5 plates of unfinished dumplings (and keep in mind, they only serve 2 at a time), so we were quite unhappy with the mistreatment. No diversity in dumplings, 2 small portions of steamed and 1 fried on repeat the entire night. I get it, it's all you can eat so options can be limited but at least if the dumplings were good, we wouldn't be complaining. They were absolutely mediocre, and the last plate of fried dumplings we got was cold, not even warm. It was only 90m sitting down but i'm not exaggerating, the amount of time we ate was only 20m, the 70m rest was waiting for the food. Total bill was $117/ 3 people. With a bad start and terrible ending, ordinary dumplings, long waiting time and poor customer service. The whole experience felt like a ripped off! The only 1 star there is for the band, they played good jazz music. Definitely would not recommend.

This is one of those pubs that I wandered into while exploring Sydney's eastern suburbs and sure enough I absolutely adore it. In a way it seems to accommodate everybody, whether you are have been a regular since the 1940s, or you are young and vibrant and looking for some great craft beer (much like me, well, except for the young bit that is). I went for a cheeky pub lunch today. I was impressed with the selection of condiments at the kitchen counter - so many mustards in ceramic jars. The staff at the bar were friendly but the kitchen weren't in too much of a hurry to feed me. When our burgers came out, they were very pretty: shiny brioche bun, pickle on top, but after the first bite I knew they weren't going to live up to their looks. The patty was a little dry and pretty flavourless (?underseasoned). The chips had good crunch but again lacked flavour. We sat out in the beer garden which is more a box to keep smokers in than anything else. I will probably be back, but won't be wasting my time with the burgers again.

The restaurant is attractively decorated, and has a range of tables and chairs, both inside and outside in a covered patio. The range of menu items is large, going beyond fish to chicken, pies, sausages and a wide range of sauces. Service is counter style. it is prompt, friendly and polite. I have visited twice this trip and once before, always around lunchtime. I ordered Pie and Chips because I like British/Australian pies more than fish. Both were great. This restaurant gets a 5 star from me because it is very authentic to my experiences growing up in England. Especially the chips are great - large, crispy but also soft and fluffy. British style chips are quite unlike chips that are served elsewhere. They are closer to what is called 'fresh-cut' fries in the USA, but still very different from that. That makes the food here very different from the inauthentic stuff that counts as 'British fish and chips' in most places I go. I notice a few critical reviews here, and this reminds me of the dilemma for anyone trying to run an authentic foreign restaurant. The truth is that for a restaurant to survive, it has to have lots of local people who want the food to be truly authentic. But more often the route to success is to gradually adjust the food to be less authentic and to match local tastes and desires more closely. That is a difficult tension for a restaurant to resolve, and I notice that this chain has gone from several locations to just one in the few years since I was last in Australia. Based on my life experience, this is a great, highly authentic restaurant, just like the UK and Irish notion of fish and chips. If that's what you want, I am sure you will be very happy.

I ordered the chicken and mushroom pie, which I thought was just okay. As someone who is used to American chicken pot pies, I thought it was a bit dry. The fish and chips are a bit on the greasy side so I wouldn't get the fish again. HOWEVER, the cheesy garlic chips are a knockout hit, you need to order it and hoard it for yourself. The prices are very reasonable for Sydney. I would come again.
