Not only did they travel an hour to my home in Northern Chester county, but who would have expected a cold day at the end of June and downpours all day.

There are times when the things that you need to cook something very special, or just something…read morevery specific cannot be found at a standard grocery. These happen to be my favorite times, as I love cooking and I love making things authentic and as legitimate as possible when I can. Over the past year, I have made it my personal achievement to become proficient in making tamales. Over the last eight months I have learned to perfect multiple different tamales, but I cannot call myself a master, as I have not put in the time of a true master. This is what led me to La Mexicana. A search for proper ingredients beyond just the simple masa and lard. I am always looking for fresh peppers when it's out of season that I cannot grow and dry myself. As well as other things to toy with my base tamale recipe to try and create new and amazing things that may have not been done before. I am happy to say LA Mexicana has everything one needs and more to make any Latin meal and also has incredible people working there. The shop looks small from the outside but runs deep with a wonderful vibe and classic decoration and bright color. They have a deli towards the side and rear and even have the wonderful pastry cabinet that I hope to find in every carniceria. If you are in the area, this is one of the best and your best bet for great produce and all the best products you will not find anywhere else.

If you ever…read moreare curious about trying Spanish-inspired dishes or at the very least want to see what you can get in a store like La Mexicana check it out! I have gone here as of today almost a handful of times and I get more interested in food culture and how food is cooked in Mexican and other ways. There is a surprising amount of food in such a small shop including as the front sign states a deli. They also have canned foods bagged foods like beans and blue flour corn and a section of refrigerated drinks that I only scratched the surface with purchasing. If you are wanting to support a rare business in the delco area or want to make something that is hard to find ingredients for in this part of North America, this place is for you so check it out! I do think you will love it.

[905] 4/22/2019…read more This steak shop is located on busy Baltimore pike and has plenty of parking. The inside is large as it was remodeled a few years ago. Tons of places to sit inside and eat/wait. The staff is friendly. The steaks are good. The pizza was ok (but I love my NY pizza). Hubby enjoyed the pizza. The prices are a bit high but I guess it's like that in the area. I'll be back.

Over the next year I noticed they were updating and renovating the place, which it needed. Kudos. I stopped in again on October 2, 2018 after Dad had a procedure at a local hospital. We were up at 2:45 am that morning and I hadn't eaten anything all day so I went in around 3:30pm. The renovations looked great, the place was clean and the woman who took my order was very pleasant. Since I hate onions, I asked, "What do you put on your steak sandwiches?" The woman said, "Anything you want." I ordered a cheesesteak with mushrooms and an order of fries to go. When I finished traveling to where I had to stay for the night (about 1/2hr. away) and opened my cheesesteak, it was loaded with onions. I had to hand pick each and every slimy piece of onion out of my dinner. It was disgusting. I put some ketchup on it but the whole thing tasted like a giant onion sandwich. Once the onions were picked out, I was left with very little meat inside. I could have (should have) put all the meat on one half of the roll and eaten it that way. The French fries were huge but utterly tasteless. I mean, they tasted like nothing at all ... not even any leftover flavor from the grease! My cheesesteak and fries cost just over $11.00. I couldn't finish my sandwich and I ate about six fries and threw the rest out. This will be the last time I visit Walt's.
