They gauged money from our pockets trying all these things to help him. One trip to Madison and they saw an entire bone missing from the cancer degrading it. They gave us false hope and had us spend thousands. Their staff is rude and does not respect owners opinions. Our dog also had hip problems and always put him on the table and made him feel very insecure. I had to argue with them to exam my dog on the floor for his safety because once it would be time to leave he would be in pain from the table experience and how bad he would shake and lock his hips. My dog doesn't even jump in a normal sedan he gets lifted in why would you expect for him to be okay on the table standing? He was also 120lbs those tables are not meant for large breed dogs. Picture of my dog that has since been laid to rest. I feel they made me make my animal suffer longer then needed because of not giving us an answer that should have clearly been seen. Edit... they also messed up our dogs medication dosage he was supposed be getting per his neurologist which caused him to have seizures. We stopped having them handle his medication dosage and only kept it with his specialist.

I have a pitbull Shepard mix puppy and she is the sweetest. We have only noticed food aggression which is a pretty common occurrence across many breeds and a young age. I brought this to their attention in hopes for pointer/tips on how to work with her for that behavior to stop. Instead I received comments on how she is going to bite us, bite others, and be aggressive no matter what. I was suggested to lock her in her crate and to teach her that we are superior to her. I could not believe that's what they told me straight to my face about my dog. She is constantly around others and my cats and shown no sign of even growling or whale eye. This appointment was this previous Monday, today is Wednesday and I have her and my three cats transferred to another vets care. I called Richfield Area Pet Clinic today to get the records transferred and they had hung up on me while I was getting the email pulled up. When I called back within the minute, I found that they blocked my number. I had to have my friend call to get the record transferred because of this. Absolute unprofessional and childish behavior. I would not recommend taking any animal here, let alone "aggressive breeds". Edit: they also told me during this visit that my dog is a mix of all "the worst ones"

This was especially frustrating as this is the third pet I've brought to this practice, and I expected a much higher level of consistency and care. I requested an estimate for my dog's dental procedure back in December and planned my budget around the original estimate of approximately $600. While the estimate did note that pricing could change, no range was provided, so I had no indication that costs could increase as significantly as they ultimately did or that I would not know the true cost until the day of the procedure. On February 28th, I was sent pre-surgical information, but no updated estimate was included, which should have been provided at that time. My original March 4th appointment was then canceled by the clinic after I had already taken time off work. I did not receive updated information until March 19th, when I was finally given a revised estimate--less than a week before the rescheduled March 25th procedure--ranging up to nearly $1,500. This was the first time the full potential cost was clearly communicated, leaving me no reasonable time to plan. I spoke with the office manager about my concerns and then called back the following day. During that call, I spoke with a receptionist who disconnected the call. When I called back, I felt I was being blamed rather than supported. I will acknowledge that I became frustrated during the conversation, but this was after multiple attempts to get clear information and find a workable solution. During my conversations, I was also advised to cancel the procedure if I wanted to save money, despite already having taken time off work twice and scheduling other commitments around the appointment. When I asked the office manager what she would do in my situation, I was told to cancel my appointment and my day off, which felt dismissive and unhelpful. The doctor also did not take accountability for the lack of a clear price range upfront. Instead, the focus remained on honoring a small price difference between $595 and $615, when my concern was the potential $900+ increase that was not clearly communicated until the last minute. I understand that veterinary procedures can vary in cost, but clear communication, professionalism, and respect for a client's time and budget should be standard--especially for a long-time client. Unfortunately, this experience caused significant stress and inconvenience, and I will be seeking care elsewhere.

Just here to echo what a lot of other people have said about Dr. Byl. I wasted 2 hours of my life…read moreand $425 for my cat to be seen for his intestinal issues. I asked the receptionist if they had received my cat's extensive medical history and she told me, "yes." Dr. Byl arrives and said he had not seen or reviewed of my cat's previous health history... okay so what's the point of this appointment then? He then tells me curing our cat's intestinal issues is an easy fix! (Wow! Why haven't the 6-8 other vets we've visited realized this!) It's just going to cost us $3k-7k to get a possible diagnosis and go from there and he wanted to make a decision on the spot! It just feels kind of predatory like we were backed into a corner. I cannot not warn others enough to never visit a chain like Blue Pearl or VCA again. They are extremely money hungry and not worried about the quality of life or health of your pet at all.

DO NOT SEE DR BYL! First went in July of 2025 because our…read moredog was showing signs of liver storage disease. They could get us in the soonest to see a specialist, which was Dr. Byl. After meeting with Dr. Byl, he recommended having a biopsy done which we did. The biopsy confirmed the liver storage disease and he put our dog on a medication that would help detox his liver and had us change his food. We came back in two months to have his liver enzymes checked again, and they had gone down a little bit. We then came back two months later to have them checked, and they were elevated again and two months later, we came back and they were even more elevated. During each of these visits, I asked Dr. Byl if there was something else we could be doing to help with supporting his liver and he told me no there wasn't. The last time we visited in February the only thing he suggested was having another biopsy done, which is extremely expensive. Each time we visited with Dr. Byl, he was very cold did not seem to really care about our dog as an individual just talked matter of fact about things and seemed to want to hurry us out of the office. I decided to try somewhere closer to home with a new specialist because we were driving an hour and a half to get to Port Washington so we tried WVRC in Waukesha. I cannot tell you what a difference it made with seeing this vet compared to Dr. Byl. She was warm compassionate seemed to genuinely care about Angus's health and getting him better. She said she felt like he had inflammation that was keeping his levels up and put him on a new medication. It has now been a month since he went to WVRC and his liver enzyme levels are down considerably. After spending $8550 at Blue pearl, Angus was not getting any better. I must say that the staff at Blue pearl the receptionist, techs and the surgeon were all wonderful to work with, but Dr. Byl fell short helping our dog and wasted 8 months of trying to stop further damage to Angus' liver, a lot of our time and money. I would not recommend him as a specialist to anyone.
