Check-in was fast, even with the long lines. What's interesting is that the front desk has these little assorted vitamin tablets to put in your complimentary water bottle. I've never seen that before, but maybe that's what happens in a country with socialized healthcare. I totally appreciate that! The room itself was clean. The AC worked fine. I find that the air can be dry in hotel rooms, but I didn't experience any issues. The lobby has a lot of seating. The on-site restaurant had good food and great service. The staff was VERY patient with my big and loud family, which I also appreciate. The property isn't too far from shopping and restaurants. Though it was summer so the weather was nice. I can't imagine walking in the middle of winter, though I guess walking would be safer than driving for me since I'm not used to driving in the snow. The nearest grocery store is like a 5-min walk so it is doable. I recommend this Marriott property if you need a place to stay in Waterloo since it's close to restaurants, shopping, and the university.

There's a good sized kitchenette area that's completely stocked with dishes and cutlery plus fridge/freezer, microwave, sink and dishwasher - no cooktop. Bathroom is large and well lit and the towels are nice and large. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The free WiFi is very good or you have the option to upgrade if you're doing something that requires a lot of refreshes. We had no problem watching Netflix and doing work without the upgrade. Parking costs additional - $12 per night at time of review. There is a small garage and lot adjacent and a large parking area beneath the hotel. There are electric charging spaces available also. Facilities include an on-site restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool, sauna and gym. Everything is clean and modern and the central location can't be beat - highly recommend.

I told them that I had not yet paid, no reasoning or calling in someone else to help, they didn't let me pay. Knowing this was a mistake, I would figure it out with in the team, which I did. However the person who paid for my room also tried to undo it and was not able to. Then 3 days later after settling with the other person the hotel charged me. If they had just listened to either of us - maybe looked to see what other rooms that card had paid for and called them while we were still there? Terrible rude customer service with the philosophy 'the hotel is always right'. Saturday night when we returned to the hotel at 10pm after a full day of competition and an early morning on Sunday, there was booming loud music. We were on the 4th floor and it sounded like it was right under us. When we called the front desk we were told that they would be done soon. It was terribly loud and was not done for another hour .. on time change night with a 6am morning. Overall just not welcoming or helpful staff.

We arrived earlier in the morning to assist the wedding coordinator in transforming the venue into something resembling a wedding space. Despite our initial hesitation, the venue is larger than you think, with a main level and upper level. Her wedding reception was around 250 guests, and it was comfortable enough. Anything larger might be stretching it. Loads of character, the ceremony took place in the main space, then a front space was opened for a cocktail reception (while the coordinator flipped the room for a meal). The stage (where bands perform) was utilized for wedding pictures. There are a few negatives: 1) not alot of bathroom space. The mens were two urinals and two stalls. The womans was four or five stalls. Thete were lineups for both 2) its really out of London, so my niece had to book buses (shuttles) for wedding guests. Despite the two negatives, its a pretty neat place for a wedding. She had hoped to get married outside, but the rain prevented that from happening. If you're looking for a wedding space, its unique, intersting and rustic.

It needed to be relatively close to Toronto, cheap enough for indy business owners' salaries, and big enough to accommodate 17 people, nine meals worth of food, and a heckova lotta love. No sweat, right? Thanks to this place, and Cindo, its chaplain, it really wasn't. Five Oaks is a large, sprawling retreat space comprised of smaller cabins, our own Chalet (in which our crew only occupied about 70% of the bunk beds), a pool, nature trails, wide open fields in which to play noodle hockey, and apparently God, although we didn't have much use for that element, and thankfully no one took notice. Our Chalet, while perhaps a little more industrial dorm than rustic cabin, boasted a sizable kitchen with new appliances and cooking utensils (pots and pans, etc), comfy bunk beds with clean linens, a gas grill, and a large fire pit onsite, only a quiet walk under warm, windy trees away. The staff was amazing: Cindo checked up on us like a warm aunt who is just so glad her investment of a summer cabin is paying off, and several others dropped by just to see how things were going and replenish toilet paper. The Chalet was a flat fee of $800 from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, which, split between 17 people came to decidedly less than a few rounds of tequila and renting a male stripper. Plus, parking is a breeze and Paris (or Brant, apparently?) is only an hour drive from Toronto along the 403. The owner will also talk briefly about the history of the farm if you are interested. Feel free to take picture, look around the farm, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Be aware they have a friendly cat and dog that love attentions. Other larger more commercialized lavender farm charge up to $13 for the entrance fee. This friendly family farm provide free workshop, I recommend visitors to at least do some small purchases inside their store. At the end, the family need to make a living :).
