This guy is the shit!…read more San Diego has more than its fair share of panhandlers. Tired of the same old uninspired "witty" signs? Well, this guy was, too. He said "Fuck all that shit! There ain't no sign patriotic enough for my red, white, and blue ass!" This guy is so patriotic he slapped a bald eagle! His routine involves no fewer than THREE America flags, which is approximately 3 more than I have in my front yard. He has one giant flag in the background - an Idea he let General Patton use once - and he has one flag tied around each of his eagle-slappers (hands). He has a boom-box sometimes and he dances like he's in the mosh pit at a Springsteen concert. No music? Not a single fuck is given... still dances. When it rains, he gives exactly zero shits because he has a rain poncho. He works it like no other and deserves every cent of your hard-earned change. This guy is in the annals of all-time great Americans like Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Billy Mays. It's only a matter of time before they blast Roosevelt's gimp-ass off of Mt. Rushmore to make room for this guy.

I learned something really special about animals several years ago. Something magical happens when…read moreyou allow a pet pick you, versus you picking a pet. We have always had a choice in picking our animal companions, but our dog picked me and little did we know at the time, that I was going to need his assistance as a service animal. I have a photo, a momento of the exact moment in time, when he was seven weeks old, right after he tugged on my skirt, walked up to reach for my chin, licked me and the stare down began. This is when we locked eyes and I knew he was our furever dog and he knew we would be his forever home. I was eager to train our little guy, teach him things. I was thankful that he passed his puppy training and was super food motivated (because you can teach just about anything when a dog is food motivated). He is an Aussie, so super smart. The first thing we got him involved in was the Gaslamp Pet Parade, which is sponsored by many wonderful and local vendors each year. The pet parade features dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens. Also, turtles, hedgehogs and pigs, you never know what's next. The parade consists of costume contests in nine categories. This year our fur babe won first place for best holiday pet costume. He was all decked out lumberjack style in buffalo plaid with his own tree farm (Note: no real trees were harmed in the making). This has been our most festive holiday event of the year and it's fun for anyone with a pet, as a spectator or participant. The event gets bigger and better every year...and...we are so happy to have this joyful parade to celebrate our pets and to celebrate the unconditional love they bring to us and others throughout the year.
