After living in Richmond for over 8 years, I finally made my first visit to Funny Bone last Thursday. We went to see Sammy Obeid, who I highly recommend. His show rightfully sold out. We arrived right at the start and were seated at a two-top front and center, which surprised me since I figured we'd be back farther. Sammy was delightfully funny, his humor and topics aligned very well. My date and I split three sides, the mac and cheese, fries, and corn. He enjoyed the corn and I preferred the fries. The mac and cheese was decent. We both also ordered the Purple Haze cocktail, which is a gin concoction. It was expectedly sweet but not bad. Prices were reasonable for the quality and service was succinct. I'd definitely return if a comedian I was interested in popped on through. read more

We came here to hear Roy Wood Jr. and he was a hoot! Loved him! The comedians are pretty good! The set up at comedy clubs are crammed, and thank goodness it's dark, because it's kinda funky. Went to go see Wicked Drag queen Brunch yesterday and what a show! Ordered tickets through FunnyBones Website, doors opened at 1230 and show started at 2. My mom and I ordered a bottle of champagne ($25) and the wings and friend cod sandwich with fries. Both perfectly seasoned and delicious. Show ended close to 5 and was entertaining from start to finish. These ladies did an amazing job and I will definitely be in attendance to their next show! read more

Been here twice for two different comedy shows: Jessica Kirson and Phil Hanley. Parking was ample. Seating process was smooth. The staff was nice and efficient. Restrooms was clean. Food was decent. Had the General Tso chicken sandwich one time and NY style cheesecake another time. I enjoyed the shows here and will be back. read more

The location is perfect with ample parking. The check-in was smooth, and we were seated close enough to see the comedians Rob Rodriguez and Gary Owen. I didn't get to try the food, but our tablemates enjoyed their buffalo dip. Our server was great and attentive. My biggest complaint was the space between tables, as they were too close to each other. Also, there was not enough room for two people to walk by tables without getting side-swiped. It's been a minute since I've been to the Funny Bone ... they've remodeled the main room and I love it! It's much more open, less crowded and has a great feel. There is plenty of parking available at the mall and it's not a far walk to the door. It was a bitterly cold night and we got there plenty early. The young lady at the ticket window encouraged us to go inside to wait for our seating. The bar area was nice and bright with a few tables and chairs, but not many. The restroom was clean, but the soap dispensers didn't work. There was a bottle of hand soap on the counter but it was either out or dispensing. Our server advised us to download the menu via the QR code at each table. It wouldn't work on my phone but I was able to access it on their website. We each ordered a drink: Purple Haze and Hawaiian Punch - both drinks were tasty! We also had the Buffalo Chicken Dip app ... it came with crackers, celery and carrot stick, and pretzel bites. The dip was very tasty and the "dippers" was a nice alternative to the standard chips. And it was a perfect portion for 2 people to share. Once again, I completely forgot to take pictures of our noms! The comedians were great and had us laughing to. We really enjoyed our evening out and look forward to coming out again! read more

I enjoyed the comedy show one week ago. Desi Banks and the fellow comedians were hilarious and entertaining. The food and drinks were ok. I'm rating this place as a comedy club, not a restaurant and I think all the reviews talking bad service and bad food are unfair. We had dinner elsewhere before the show because we didn't expect the food to be spectacular (standard bar food) but we did share funnel cake fries, which were good. As far as the place goes, it's great. The servers and other staff were friendly and attentive, no complaints there. We were seated towards the back, not in the main part in the middle and the tables were far apart imo. The place is set up well, you have good view of the stage from pretty much anywhere and the sound is good. We got there about 15m before the show started and got in and out quickly. You don't come here for the food. You come here for the laughs & drinks. If it's been 5+ years since you've been. Then they have made some changes to include purchasing tics before you get there & depending on your tics will designate where you sit. VIP tics get you closer to the state. Impressive space bringing well-known comedians to the area. The downfall is that almost every inch of the space is used; my knees touched the stage. The splash of alcohol in the drinks isn't worth the price. The wings, however, were fried hard and the Buffalo sauce they were tossed in were good. Water is served by the bottle. This comedy club does not screen their comics. Easily the worst comedy routine I've ever seen. Eric Eaton and his opening act were racist, misogynistic, transphobic, and worst of all...just not funny. No lie, one of the bits was "Hey, you know how when you call Bank of America you always get an Indian on the phone? They use Indians to answer their phone!" That was it. That was the joke. Absolutely miserable. I'd rather have sandpaper scraped over my eyes than spend another second in this club. If you can somehow keep the nausea down from the tragedy of comedy being beaten to death before your eyes, the food isn't bad. The beer selection is pretty meh. All of it is overpriced, but that's to be expected in this kind of venue. read more

Since recent major life changes, I have been making a conscience and extra effort to do more things I enjoy and laughing is one of them. I noticed that Don "DC" Curry would be just a short drive south of me so why not turn a standup comedy night into a staycation! Near the FunnyBone, parking is plentiful and conveniently located in the Short Pump Town Center. We saw the late show (Sat night @ 9:45) and ticket info recommended an arrival time of 9:15. We arrived around 9:25 and the entry line was nearly wrapped around the building without any movement. Maybe ten minutes or so later the line moved and we were seated by 9:45. We had a two person table, second row middle, directly in front of the stage... great seats but the venue isn't big so any seat would be good. On the fly and not really hungry, Buffalo wings and fries was the go to... both were basic, average at best but for a snack it was decent. The service was swift, the only issue was a long wait for napkins otherwise no complaints. Gratuity is already added to the check with an option to add additional tip. No videography or photography is allowed during shows. For a first timer attending a comedy show here, it will definitely not be the last. The most bizarre experience ever and not in a good way. It was immediately the staff against the guests. You would have thought we were at a funeral with how they walked around making sure everyone was quiet. We got in trouble for ordering our drinks too loudly. The show we attended was aimed at our demographic, middle aged groups of women. We came for a specific comedian that is really fun and draws groups of women like us but no fun is allowed at the Funny Bone. I don't believe laughing is even allowed. There was no option of tap water and you could only purchase the larger more expensive water at your table. You had to go to the lobby if you wanted bottled water. It was an all around terrible experience. I will never go back and will continue to tell everyone I encounter every chance I get. read more

We had a nice time at a Friday night comedy show. Each table has a good view of the stage. The servers were attentive and our drinks came out quickly. The pricing for the cocktails wasn't as high as I was expecting. The drinks were good and they didn't seem to skimp on the alcohol. I would go back again for a show. Went to see Tracy Morgan. First, the renovation was nice. The seating area was opened up and the lighting increased. The sound system was improved, almost a tad too much. The initial volume to the opening act was deafening but apparently someone fixed it after him making it much more enjoyable. All the acts (4) were very enjoyable. The menu has changed a bit but seemed to still have most of the old standards. I returned since this review. Ate before going this time. The wait outside in the cold is kinda rough so get there early!! A staff person came out to address the line and get it in the right direction. A patron, who I think was attempting to joke about being out in the cold said something and the staff cursed at him as he entered back inside. Overall, this venue is a five and I've never seen this behavior from staff. I'm going to keep the five stars but I'll drop it if I ever see this again as I do plan to return. read more

They were nice at bringing you to your seat and welcoming you and making sure you were doing well, took my order as soon as I was seated and had it like 35 mins. Not that bad at all and the fact I saw Trailor Trash Tammy made the experience so much better she as well as her sister and other comics were awesome: and the coolest thing ever above the club was a Rock Bottom Bar it was so funny to see and seemed so perfect for the event. The only thing I think that could of been better is the wait on the fries come quicker. And to not water down the mixed drinks cause my pina colada tasted more like water than any else lol. Went to see John Crist for the Sunday night show. Once the doors opened, we were seated promptly, and our waiter took our order. When our food was served, I asked the person who brought our food for silverware and napkins. She told me our waiter would have to do that and walked away. Kinda frustrating. We stared at our food for a couple of minutes, waiting for our waiter but then I went and found him near the entrance. He apologized and took care of our request immediately. Other than that issue, our food (quesadillas) were good and John Crist was hilarious. read more

My wife contacted them prior to June 2023 for Matt Rife tickets and was directed by their staff to contact stub hub where front row tickets were purchased at very expensive prices. When we arrived there were signs on the door stated the seating is based on the date the ticket was purchased. Our tickets said tables 100 & 101 which are front row but we were placed in the back corner with our backs to the stage. The manager told us the table listed on the tickets would be occupied by a camera and that the table numbers should not be on the ticket. When we pointed out that there were still front row tables and several seats closer to the stage empty. Stub hub falsely advertised VIP front row when there is no VIP seating and the Funny bone made it worse by putting us in the worst seats in the house. This disabled Veteran will never use them again. The excuses were they are in litigation with stubhub about falsely advertising VIP seating, but it was Funny Bone staff that directed us to stubhub for the tickets then they did not follow their own posted signs when they seated other customers who purchased their tickets in the last 48 hours 2 and 4 rows ahead of us and leaving open seats we could have still been seated in at regular table height facing the stage empty. Terrible experience with no action by management to correct it even after they saw how much we were charged for tickets that clearly promised front row and VIP purchased several months ahead of others who were seated closer in violation of the Funny bone posted policy. They never disclosed ticket price since they claimed to be sold out before June so we had no idea the price we paid was over 10 times the actual ticket price and no way of knowing we were buying from a third party or that there was no VIP seating The worst part was that seats were available even after others were seated closer than the policy stated read more

I've been here a few times and really enjoyed it. I've seen Mark Normand, Dave Attell, and Stavros Halkias. The ambience is nice, low ceiling and a dark room like comedy clubs are supposed to be. I've never ordered food but I've ordered drinks and enjoyed those as well. Service has been good, received my drinks promptly and got checked on a few times to make sure I have what I need. The host and guest spots have been hit or miss but it's the only comedy club in Richmond that gets real headliners but keeps that comedy club feel. I've seen reviews complaining about staff not letting the audience have any fun or even disallowing laughing, but I can guarantee you that those people were talking during sets because the groups I've gone with and I have never had a single issue with that. I've also seen people complaining about the food. It's a comedy club, if you want fine dining, go to one of the many fine dining restaurants within 5 miles of the club. If you like comedy and you want to laugh, come to the funnybone. If you want to have nice conversation and fancy food, go to a restaurant. Also, if you can't handle jokes that you may find offensive, they have clean comics as well, go to one of those shows. Following that line of thought would make shows better for everyone. read more

This Funny Bone in Richmond is located in the mall area, in a well lit commercialized area, which gave me a feeling of safety. Sometimes comedy clubs are located in sketchy areas of a city. But this one is conveniently located around stores and restaurants galore. My husband and I arrived a little early and stood outside in a line for tickets we'd purchased online. Ticket prices were reasonably priced. Inside, we continued in line until we were seated. Seating is a bit tight. If your party is only two, there is a very high chance that you'll be seated with another couple (which we were). I ordered a hot tea and my husband a bottled water, along with a souvenir glass, so I can't speak for their food or spirits. My 'hot tea' came out room temperature after a half hour wait. She brought it back and it still wasn't a hot tea, but at least it was warm. My opinion would be, get dinner or a snack before going, because it appears that their kitchen is slow and if they can't even make tea, I wouldn't count on hot food. The opening acts were pretty funny; in my opinion, slightly funnier than the comedian who we paid to see (Leonard Ouzts). Towards the end of his act, he turned the lights on and upset a woman who apparently was being disruptive. I'm not sure if that's typical of his shows, or if was cutting the show short, but it seemed like we got cheated out of at least 20 minutes of the show at the end, while he improvised and talked about his t shirts he was selling. Just a heads up, there is no photos or videos permitted inside (although I did take a couple of pics before they 'opened'). There is no talking allowed. Overall, it was a fun experience and I would go again. read more

The live comedy thing is regular entertainment for some. For me, it's something I enjoy every now and then... like every two years or so. Really, that's about as often as I do it, but it's always an okay time when I do. I had eaten right before arriving to Funny Bone, so I didn't eat there. I had two Grey Goose martinis, and my bill was $36. This isn't NYC, or even D.C. Why is a martini $15? Why is gratuity added in? It's not like the food/drink covers the cost of the entertainment. You have to buy tickets, too! I appreciate live entertainers, I do. But this place would probably do much better if it weren't so costly to go. My friend's tab was $80+ dollars! WTH? read more

The whole evening was marred by the food service. Arriving early, our party of four was only the 3rd table to be seated at 5:50pm for a 7:00pm show. Our drinks arrived quickly and our food order was taken. After an hour, the House Lights dimmed and show began, but still no food. Halfway through the warm-up comedian's act, some fries and coleslaw arrived at the table, with more food coming 15 minutes later. More of the food arrived even later after a waiter walked around to other tables with our food asking if our order belonged to that table (in the now darkened theater). My BLT arrived even later after the headlining performer took the stage. I couldn't even see the sandwich to eat it in the dark, so eventually requested a take-home doggy bag. From now onward, I will take my guests to eat at a restaurant before the show, then arrive at show time to see the comedians. They got me for $174 this time, but I'll NEVER order food again at the Funny Bone in Richmond. The atmosphere of the whole evening was ruined because instead of listening to the performances, we were wondering when our food was coming, then we couldn't see in the dark to eat it. I feel strange giving a "middling" review of a place -- usually my experiences are great or horrible. Not much in between. That's what Funny Bone is though - it's fine. It offers an enjoyable enough night out, assuming the performances are good. The performances that I saw last night were decent -- about 5 really great ones and 4 *really* bad ones -- just about what I expected, so no big deal there. Funny Bone does have a pretty deep menu for a comedy club. Most of it looked pretty good, if not a bit pricey. The bar had a LOT of hard liquor and a small selection of bottled beers. I'm not sure if there's a law or something that says they can only have bottled beers, but the selection was limited to the basics (Bud, Bud Light, Yuengling, etc). If you don't like mixed drinks, this might not be the place for you. Still, it was fine. I'll probably go again for the right event. Just keep your expectations in check and you'll enjoy your experience. read more
