Hot Yowie

This place that's truly out of this world! Tina has created such a fun, funky space filled with quirky decor, creative touches, and plenty of personality. The pizza is amazing, the staff is always sweet and welcoming, and there's something for everyone. A local gem with a whole lot of character!

Will definitely be back! For food we tried the spinach artichoke dip pizza (weekly special), asteroids, and spirals w/ ufo aioli. For drinks we tried the Saturn is Retrograde and Ube Thing. Excited to be back and try more delicious food and drinks! The staff were so friendly! They really pushed our first experience here over the top. All around definitely check this place out!

We are covered up in central AR with pizza places. Raduno, Sterling, Pizza Pub, Iriana's, and many more. So how do we add Funky Stretch to the rotation? You just do! The vibe alone is worth the entry, then add the fun creativity of the food and it will easily be your top 5 restaurants to go to. We loved every bit of it. We ordered so much and barely touched the surface of the menu. First we started with the spirals. Fried potatoes and we choose the chili crisp ranch. They come in this adorable Chinese take out box with chopsticks. The ranch is spicy and the potatoes are solid. Then what followed was some amazing wings. We did the Honey Harissa and we were thrilled. An excellent dry rub, with the right amount of heat and sweet. The added bonus was the mint crystals that added texture and allure. We ordered 2 of their pizzas. This isn't a typical round pizza. More of an oblong shape which has the right amount of crust to pizza ratio. The potsticker is a popular choice so I had to try it, I did love it. It was on the salty side, the sweet sauce is drizzled on the crust. I did ask for an extra later, once I poured that on the pizza itself, it was an instant hit. Then the star...the Hot Yowie. You take a typical meat pizza, but the originality is the dollops of Calabrese peppers which brings the surprise heat and then the creamy stracciatella cheese all brings a perfect combo of a spicy meat pizza...but wait...it comes with lemon wedges so now you have this added acidity that elevates it to a European type taste. Again, Tina and Brayan are an unmatched duo. They take fusion and not add confusion. They are about the fun! I absolutely came in with an open mind to what this will be. Is it pizza, is it Asian, is it Asian pizza? Sure, it's what you want it to be plus some. This is a spot you want to go for the food and the vibe. I loved the big horseshoe bar. With our southern hospitality it's very welcoming to the local and new residents of our city.

Great pizza. All 4 of us were happy. I asked simply for a "fancy Mother's Day drink". That's what I got!

Where to start? The friendly staff when you first walk in are incredible. On your first visit, they help you know where to go/what to do. The cold fashion drink is delicious and refreshing and I loved the shrimp! The music sets the scene perfectly, even the staff was dancing along. So fun! This place is so different than anything else that Little Rock has to offer and I love it!

This new little restaurant is so funky and fresh! The food is delicious :) we're excited about the interesting and exciting menu. Something new to try each visit. The shrimp is soooo good and they have it in pizza and appetizer form so we will definitely be trying both. Can't wait to try the falafel.

As soon as I walked into this place, a homeless and/or strung out man was sitting next to the door on the chairs. He was yelling and causing a scene. The staff didn't really do anything about it, they just pretended he wasn't there. As a paying customer this was unacceptable. If I would have had my family there it would have been a bigger deal because you never know how those type of people are going to behave. The food itself was very good, I had the big bad scramble and a biscuit with it. The scramble was very filling with great flavor, the only thing I would recommend is less onions, there were a lot in there. The biscuit was large and you can tell it was homemade. Very mixed feelings about this place, I would think twice about coming here if I was with my family. If they really cared about the paying customer they would make it a safer place to dine.

Traveling through a Little Rock for work, my group decided to grab breakfast before flying out. We came in due to the raving reviews from a multitude of online sources and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Root Benny and the blueberry muffin based on the host's recommendation. First cut into my poached egg and I already knew it was the start of a culinary journey. Absolute flavor and texture perfection. The seasonal greens (steamed kale?) paired so well with the greens and the crostini was the perfect vehicle for yolk dipping. The blueberry muffin was small but delicious--exactly what you should expect from a muffin. I wish I would've remembered to order the cookies to go. I suppose I'll have to come back.

They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu that features a fresh and healthier take on classic southern food. I really enjoyed the spicy tofu bowl with grits and collared greens, their homemade cornbread, and strawberry shortcake for dessert! I also liked their arancini which was on the specials menu. Their classic lemonade was delicious, and the perfect complement to my meal. I'd highly recommend The Root Cafe for a memorable meal!

It is in walking distance from local hotels...not sure if there's a parking lot nearby. Ambiance: housed in an older building, there are old-timey posters, album covers & a tv on the walls. The building itself, adds to its neighborhood hole-in-the-wall cool vibe. Restaurant is spacey with a counter or seat yourself tables of differing sizes near a lot of windows to people watch. Service: our server was friendly & rendered just the right amount of time and attention. Food: so delicious! Had the "Big Breakfast" but gave the pancake to the BF. I'm from the South & the sausage gravy is the real deal okaaay? Cheese grits were perfect & I could only eat about 1/3. Bf got the "cakes & eggs". His eggs were cooked perfectly (over easy) with crispy bacon. Menu has a great variety: Benedicts; breakfast sandwiches & tacos; French toast, chicken & waffles...something for everyone. Reasonable prices & the food came out just as I finished my 1st cup of coffee. Will definitely be back to try the yummy sounding lunch options!

I wanted to like this place…read more I saw a review of the place on THV11 and thought the food looked incredibly good. Came here expecting food that would've blown me away but was utterly shocked by the experience. Was sat around 3 PM expecting to be out by 4 at the latest. We tried to order a burger but were told there was a "brunch only" menu that you could order from at 3 PM. Why?? After 30 minutes of waiting the server came by to apologize for the wait and promise us a discount on our meal then continued to talk to customers and overall slack off on their job. They even offered to give us to-go containers for our food?? We watched (who we assume to be the manager) stack cups and wipe off tables while the server counted their tips behind the counter. Poor guy was doing absolutely everything the server should've been doing in the first place. While the wait got longer and longer the waiter seemed nervous to even come around our table. No wonder. The first entree to come out came 45 minutes after we ordered at 3:20, being told the rest would come out soon after. We got our last entree at 4:25. It seemed like everyone was waiting insane amounts of time. The food was okay. Once we paid for the meal, there was no discount. The waiter didn't even bring it up. I hate to say this because the owner was trying so hard to keep his restaurant in check, but nothing was worth going unless you had too much free time and wanted to spend it sitting in a somewhat entertaining restaurant. I really expected better from this place. Everyone was friendly, but there wasn't any real effort put into it. Wouldn't come back again.

I love the decor, I love the atmosphere, and I have my solid order that I make that is always magnificent every time I order it: the breakfast tacos with chorizo, side of fresh fruit, and lavender vanilla latte. Perfection. The staff is always kind. They call out your name when your order is ready. Sometimes the place can be full (especially on weekends) and sometimes their beautiful, large 4-6 seating room tables have only 1-2 people sitting at it (I sometimes wonder if there were another way they could arrange seating to be a bit better for more folks to fit in the place, but I digress). If you are lucky and find a table, by all means, grab one. Take a picture of the table. Take a picture of your coffee. Take a picture of everything. The whole place looks like an Instagram backdrop. I dream of that breakfast taco with chorizo. It's out of the way for my commute to work, but I don't care. I cherish it. It's a breakfast splurge if I have time to stop on the way in, and it's a worthwhile lunch visit too. Also been a great meeting spot for work, with room to talk, eat and work. Go check it out if you haven't already.

Oh Mugs. Dadgum it…read more I went twice during a long weekend in the neighborhood. The first day we had delicious drinks to go, but eyeballed the food for later. I had a pear honey spritzer and it was unlike anything I'd ever had in the best of ways. The second day we went, I ordered a cafe con leche. I was so freaking excited and I needed a little pep in my step. I told the cashier how excited I was to drink sweetened condensed milk. I hadn't had a Cuban drink in a while and I was P U M P E D. She confirmed I didn't want DOUBLE Sweetened condensed--no maam, just the way it comes. The receipt says the same. The drink... had milk in it. Regular old milk. I was so disappointed. But not so much I wanted to wait another 20 mins for a drink. I literally threw half of the expensive thing away. I also ordered a breakfast bagel and that guy was tasty. But he didn't make up for the depressing coffee drink. And so, you get my solid 3 stars.
