It's nice to see a letterpress studio, tucked away in a corner near Eastern Market, its facade exploding with wooden sculptural shards. A great place for an art opening but an even better place for your next project or multidisciplinary lecture. Or to print your super-hipster unique wedding invitations (should you want them?). You can even print and bind your own books here - you know, the dream of the 1890's ( Portlandia). If there is some snark creeping in here it's just because the one opening I attended was populated with some seriously cold and aloof 20-somethings sipping PBRs. But I think that was more the opening than the owners of the venue, who seem to invite all sorts of creative endeavors. Their website says they even have 16mm film screenings sometimes. Nifty. So if you're looking for a place to put your graphic design visions on paper, or to expand your art knowledge, or hang out with artsy fartsy folk, this here is your nook.

The bookbinding lesson is a performance in itself, best reenacted by Geoffrey Rush or Tom Wilkinson. Frosting on the cake is that there will likely be many very interesting people in attendance with you. The November evening could have only been made better had, upon exiting the building, a fluffy snowstorm been falling. This evening qualifies as a lush one. These events tend to sell out quickly and well in advance.

It's a venue for small to medium sized special events. It's across the street from the art museum so it's easy to amble over and check out. When I stopped by they were renovating, it's over 110 years old so this sort of thing must happen every now and then. Well worth the voluntary donation even though it was mostly closed off. Depending on your vision, you might want to bring binoculars to look at the higher parts of the exterior architecture and be careful if you are backpedaling to get a better view. They have one of the best funnel cake trucks with amazing fried Oreos, sooo good!!! Treat Dreams has an ice cream truck with their famous flavors. The ice cream cookies are the absolute best!!! They have an eclectic variety of food trucks that look and smell mouthwatering. But they could use more seating, it's very limited compared to the amount of people eating the goodies. I love the adult beverages available to purchase through tickets. They have a ginormous variety of beer and mixed drinks, plus some of the money goes toward different charities and good causes. It's ten tickets for $20, but this year I noticed you may purchase individual tickets. I prefer this option! Tickets are $2 a piece, so most beers cost around $6 or three tickets. I got the Griffinclaw pumpkin beer. It was amazing! Very pumpkin forward with a nice spice aftertaste. Most of the mixed drinks are between three and four tickets, cheaper than most bars. I've even seen some for two tickets. The parking can be challenging. We were able to find a good spot and only paid $3.00. But I wonder if it gets more challenging in the evening hours. I bet this a fun time at night. This is a great event when paired with the Funky Ferndale fair. I look forward to next year.

Prices run from low to high, so there's something for everyone. They have frequent exhibits and openings where they have a DJ, snacks and cocktails which is always a nice time. Check their website for upcoming artist openings. The staff does a nice job displaying all of the items and keeping it fresh with new items. Definitely stop in if you're looking to support a local artist and add some new items to your house or get a gift.

The event was totally sold out, and packed to the max. The main floor was filled with big, round tables. They had a few options for food like a cheese & fruit platter & chicken tenders. There was wine, beer & soda available as well. The service was pretty good. There is a 2nd floor as well and some people were sitting up there. I think they were the musicians and their family though. The event itself was awesome. I'm not a folk or country music fan, but I love good live music. There was a good variety of music (folk, country, blues, or all of the above). The energy in the room was amazing. This is a charity event that people attend every year. I'm so glad we were invited to attend. The Community House is definitely old & holds a lot of history. I loved the atmosphere & found it to be very intriguing. It definitely needs a lot of TLC, and looks like they're having some serious structural issues. The good news is that they have a plan, and hopefully they'll be able to fulfill the vision for a new Community House. It's clear that the community takes pride in this little landmark.

We were very very pleased with how everything turned out and had really great interactions with everyone who worked there. One note is that they don't provide catering or any other services like that. It worked out fine for us because we were able to bring in the companies from in and around Detroit that we loved.

Detroit Tuft is an amazing class that is perfect for family, friends, school, students, and…read morecolleagues. I recommend this class for so many individuals looking to tap into the creative side, but also to have some fun. I must say during my visit today I felt safe and at peace during my time tufting. I really enjoyed how the owners took their time to get to know me but also have some fun. I didn't feel pressured. I felt at ease and as soon as I felt confident due to their incredible words of wisdom I began to tuft for the first time. My classmates and I were dancing and singing karaoke, but also tapping into side of our creativity that we didn't know about. I really enjoyed how they challenged me to try new things because I didn't even know I was capable of doing something so amazing. I highly encourage you to check out Detroit Tuft and try a new craft that you may not have known about. It's easy simple and most importantly fun.
