Xscape Yorkshire is in a great location, just off the M62 in Castleford. It's a great place for…read moreleisure activities or to grab a bite to eat. There are many things to do here, which would certainly be suitable for families, adventure seekers, cinema lovers and co, including Tenpin bowling, a Cineworld Cinema. There is also a gym and rock climbing area. For food and drink, you're also tempted by a wide array of brands including Nando's, Ask Italian and Pizza Express. There is also a Starbucks here, although it didn't look too welcoming. It felt so uncomfortable that they openly admitted they did not trust customers to have food items in the fridges, and kept them all in the back - I totally understand loss prevention but I've never seen any Starbucks locations do this other than this one. The car park is HUGE, it felt way too big, but I'm sure due to the varied things to do and eat here, it can get quite busy, especially in such a peak location, being right off the motorway it makes it easily accessible through all points of the country. PRO TIP: If you're going on a longer journey, make this a stop off to get a bite to eat or something to drink, you have a selection of brands and you're not paying the high prices of motorway service stations. There is a small selection of shops here too, but nothing too special, this isn't really a place you'd come to shop. There's a sporting goods store and a WHSmith Travel location as I could recall, that's pretty much it. 4* - I like this place, it's pretty cool and certainly a good spot for a family day out.

Good shopping/recreational centre but very expensive. Fun for all the family. The 4D golf was a bit…read morerubbish.

Trust me, I looked up trampolining --not because it's the latest trend in exercise, although it is-- but because I've wanted to get my bounce on for aaaaaages. The only other place in Leeds that I could find looks like it's basically for kids, which is a shame as they have the proper big trampolines. Anyway. This place? So much more than just bouncing. There is trampoline basket ball, trampoline jump in a foam pit, trampoline dodge ball... there's even a tight rope thing you can practice balance on. I love it! They've got a parkour thing in the works too, which is super exciting. Although, the guy didn't really seem to get me when I checked if there would be lessons and if those lessons would be cool for a not-teenager. Whatever I want to run up things. Staff all seem to be about 18. It does smell a little bit like boy and Lynx. But, forget that and just get your bounce on. My friend and I actually spent the first five minutes squealing and bouncing as high and/or as fast as we could until we both collapsed. How do kids DO IT?! Pro tip: warm up a bit. The air in there is super cold which makes your chest hurt if you go nuts like we did. One last question: what is it with alternative exercise places, lasers, and nineties dance music? I mean, weird. But I guess I like it too. DO IT. It's a tenner an hour. Don't go on weekends if you don't want to be surrounded by childs.

Having only ever used two facilities here they are all I can comment on. Childrens parties: We had a bouncy castle which was a great hit with the kids, and then went into a room in which there was a full platter of finger foods and a birthday cake. They do offer different kinds of kids party such as roller disco's. Swimming: There are two pools; a small heated childrens pool and a larger pool. The small pool is brilliant for bringing babies and toddlers swimming and is regularly monitored that there is only a certain number of people in the pool to avoid over crowding. The larger pool is often sectioned off into two ares, a lanes swimming area and then an open pool area for the people who don't wish to swim in lanes. The changing rooms are normally quite clean and tidy although the air conditioning can make it a bit cold. There are 4 showers in the female changing rooms as well as a couple of toilets. Lockers are provided for everyone to use and cost £1 which you get back at the end of your session.

I had the pleasure of being one of the first to use the facilities here yesterday on opening day…read moreand am very impressed indeed. The place appears to have been very well planned and designed and am sure it will appeal to all. they really have thought of everything and the variety of equipment and machines will impress even the most experienced Gym bunny! Sun Lane Leisure has the following facilities: A six lane 25m pool with adjustable depth ( A 13m x 7m studio pool with adjustable depth (this has a floating bottom so the depth can be brought to zero, this in effect covers the pool and it looks invisible) A 100 station fitness suite A multi-use activity studio A health suite with steam room and sauna which are pool side There are dedicated changing rooms for both pool and gym, on separate floors and they are top class with lovely finishing touches. The pool offers family changing rooms or separate cubicles. 130 capacity spectator viewing area Café and spectator area refreshments vending machines. I was previously using the Lightwaves Leisure Centre which has now been replaced by the Sun Lane Centre and I am so impressed by the massive upgrade to first class which I feel we now have within our Community. Many of the Lightwaves Staff have transferred across and i am pleased to see some new faces have joined the now sizable Team. The Staff are highly trained and experienced, knowledgeable, approachable and very keen to assist, support and encourage you. The Staff here are very used to all manner of abilities and shapes and sizes and they really are experts and sensitively deal with those of us who are very unfit and GP referrals. Please do not expect to find a Gym full of young trendy skinny beauties, this Gym really has a mix of ages and everyone is friendly and welcoming to all users, it really feels like there is mutual respect for all here. Sun Lane Leisure is fully accessible for people with disabilities, with a lift to the second floor and gym so all floors are accessible. There is also accessible changing, level access and hoists into both pools. A key feature to be included in Sun Lane Leisure is a Changing Places facility which offers special access for the disabled and will mean carers can assist those with a range of needs to change in safety and comfort. Features include height adjustable adult-sized changing benches, a tracking hoist system, space for the user and up to two carers, centrally placed toilet and screens for extra privacy. This changing facility will be available for anyone visiting the city and not just users of the facility.

Easy access…read morefrom the M606/M62 motorways although if there has been an event on it can be difficult to get in or out of the car parks. The usual car park is a strange shape with hills all round it. In my view it would have been better to have disposed of some of these hills. Inside there is a big swimming pool which is an irregular shape. There is one part of it though that you can do conventional lengths in. The rest of it is more of a fun pool. There are various waterfalls and there are two good slides which you either pay separately for or are forced to pay in with the swimming at some sessions. There are always plenty of attendants about. There is a seating area next to the pool for doting parents/grandparents etc or just if you fancy a break from swimming. There is access to the cafe but it isn't very close by and you cannot go in your swimming gear. There are various sports halls of different sizes, a fully-equipped gym and squash courts. The main hall also hosts large sports functions, computer fairs and is used for counting at the elections. This has tiered seating at one end. They do a range of classes such as Pilates, kickboxing, karate, spinning etc. There is/was a climbing area but I am not sure if this is now dyfunct as I haven't seen anyone using it for some years now. The changing rooms are below standard in my opinion. They are cold, the toilets aren't very clean, the ceilings are usually festooned with soggy toilet paper bombs that have dried out (nice!). The changing area for the dry sports are often littered with rubbish and the showers in this part aren't very private ie male attendants have walked through while female sportspeople are showering. There is no door to the shower area. The cafe has the usual chips with everything type fare and buns and biscuits. They do wave to those who are trying to be healthy by providing fruit and basic uninspiring salads and jacket potatoes (although I have often found they have run out of these). There is also a bar and function room within the building but it is nothing to write home about.

Firstly, there are loads of car parking spaces so there will always be somewhere to park. The range of sports offered is excellent. Firstly, the pool is seen as probably the major attraction. They have a coupld of slides available for those just wanting to have a good time but there's also space for those just wanting to get some exercise (although I'd suggest not going on a peak time at the weekend as kids parties tend to be very popular). I have participated in a number of activities here, rollerblading, indoor/outdoor football, basketball.. you name it and they are likely to have it. The facilities are not the best in the world but to me that's not really that important a factor. I see this place as somewhere where you can have some fun. Whether you want to go to get exercise or prefer to go with others and have fun Richard Dunn's is a quality venue.
