I have many reasons I absolutely dislike this league. FFPS is not the way to go if your interested that your child learn the actual game and fundamentals. Trust me. I played for over 16 years myself with a winning team in Texas and played regionally. Its not to be cocky and to be too confident but it says a lot. This league may have a lot of kids and it's popular but it isn't soccer. Fun Fair Postive Soccer isn't to miss practices and still play, have end of the season reviews, and mixing up players every year and season. This and all the dynamics are NOT soccer. Our coach let us play 4 kids to 6 kids. With them having two goalies. One of there kids was older and not in uniform. They had another kid to rotate in. So they where not short a kid. We had two kids watching while we got beat down 6 to 4. Fun fair soccer or unfair soccer? Forget following soccer rules. Do what you want games. read more

This is my daughters first time playing soccer and the only good thing is that she doesn't know what she's doing and no one else does either. There's no real coach and no refs! So if you want your kid to learn how to play soccer go somewhere else. A week before the season started our team was told we had no coach and parents were asked who would volunteer? The league is all volunteer and there are ridiculous jobs parents must do. (Time keeper, videographer, substitution monitor, team manager and assistant coach) No one stepped up to be coach so I hesitantly volunteered which I know nothing about soccer. Games are interesting as us parents are just winging it. Not to mention the field is shit. There are ant piles everywher, I've told them about it but they haven't done anything about it. John made a joke that it'll make the children run faster. The ground is very uneven and there are holes so children trip constantly during the game. Plus when it rains the field holds water. You can barely see the out of bounds and goalie box lines. It's just not a nice field (west Houston) the teams are co-Ed heads up. Next season I won't be signing up at FFPS I'll be looking for a new league preferably all girls. Some teams have 1 girl and the other 6-7 are boys. My team is 5 boys 2 girls...it's not balanced at all like they advertise. This league is fine for a beginner player. But if your kid wants to seriously play soccer or they're actually good then I suggest you go somewhere else because they won't learn much here. It's more for fun than anything. read more

Their system of balancing is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My son has played 6 seasons. I have spoken with the owner several times but it keeps getting worse. This year, I have 3 4th graders as 2 5th graders. They have to play older teenagers who are far bigger and better and our team gets destroyed every game. This is my last year. They refuse to let 4th and 5th graders play their own age and sizes. They YMCA was FAR more fun, fair, and positive! read more

FFPS is probably the most affordable soccer league in the Houston area. However, here are some things to expect with this steal of a price; - Unorganized FFPS staff. - The season always starts in what seems to be a cluster f... - Constant badgering by the FFPS staff to coach. - Coaches are the parents, so you may have a coach who knows nothing about soccer. - If you decide to coach, you're on your own. The one day "coaching certification" meeting is a joke. - Almost a guarantee you will pay an additional $40 for no team sponsorship. Where does the $40 go? - Your child may not learn a great deal of soccer skills. - 17 year old kids playing with 10 year old kids. - Most fields are not well maintained. - FFPS is a very profitably 501c. I have coached in this league for 8 seasons now and it is just about the $$$$$$$$. I just attended picture day with my team another $$$$$$ day Jack Hendrie the owner of the league. We thought we had a Sponsor for our team $380 dollars and find at the last minute we do not. The picture person would not let my team take pictures unless someone paid $280 now. I put the $280 on my credit card so the kids could get there pictures. I then quit as Coach which I give 2 days a week FOR FREE with NO discount for my child to play. After 2 calls and being told I WOULD HAVE TOO get the $40 each from the parents myself. On the second call I finally got a someone to agree to not CHARGE me the $280 for the team and just the $ 40 for my child. If you BELIEVE the crap that Jack Hendrie sells that "It's For The Kids" I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale cheap! FOLKS DON"T BE FOOLED. Stay away. read more

Im surprised there isnt a review of FFPS here yet. This is my first year and I have been impressed with the adherence to the priniciples of Fun, Fair and Positive. This is more like a organized pickup game on saturday afternoon. Parents cant instruct from the sidelines, only encourage. Focus is on kids having safe fun, no formal scoring or playoffs, everyone gets recognized for a good job. Honestly, I wasn't sure what I would think, but overall Im very pleased and so is my non-competitive, easy going daughter. Quality full uniforms are provided, there are tons of resources, well structured leadership, training, background checks and an emphasis on making sure the players have a great time. read more

I volunteered to be a coach in this league after my sister received several harassing emails. The emails were from Lissette, who is the district coordinator, and she was harassing the parents to get someone to volunteer as a coach and a referee. I did not have my child in the league but my two nephews were signed up. After several emails I told my sister that I would gladly coach. I then attended two meetings that lasted about 2 hours each. The information passed in the first meeting was pretty much the same information passed in the second meeting. I received a ridiculous amount of paperwork at these meetings. They force new coaches to stay for these meetings by threating to not give something to us. That something the first meeting was rosters with the names and phone numbers of the players. The something in the second meeting was the players' jerseys. I was ok with all this as I new I was doing this for the kids and I chose to volunteer my time. Then things got worse. To set this next part up I will explain a few things. There are families that have more than one child in the league. There are volunteers that coach and referee more than one team. I have a wife who is 8 months pregnant and 2 kids ages 3, and 1. So there are people who may spend 3-4 hours at the field on a game day. So when I inquired about a restroom, I was told by Lissette, to either drive to the nearest restaurant, or urinate by the bushes. I was taken aback because how can I, as a grown man, urinate by the bushes, in front of all the children in the area. Then I received an email from another volunteer who suggested I use adult diapers at the games. Not only were these statements ridiculous but they were extremely unprofessional. My 8 months pregnant wife had to leave several times during the season, while I was coaching, to either use the bathroom or take my 3 year old to use the bathroom. My 3 year old had at least three accidents on the field because we could not get him to a bathroom quickly enough. At the end of the season, the coaches are supposed to evaluate the players. My schedule became very busy and I did not have time to login to their website to do so. So on the last game when I went to get the trophies and pictures that each of the parents paid for, I was told they weren't giving it to me. They said that the players were not going to get the trophies and pictures they deserve and paid for because I did not fill out an evaluation online. Lastly, they say they are a "fun" and "fair" and "positive" league and that is why your child should play there. Well I have had experience with other leagues and they too are all that and more. They also advertise an initially low registration fee. But you have to read carefully because 3-4 weeks into the season you have to pay an extra $35. If you don't pay this extra $35, they don't let your team take the individual and team pictures. My suggestion to parents looking to put your child in a soccer league: do some research and know that there are multiple soccer leagues that your child can have a positive experience and have fun. read more

It's a poorly run organization. I think it's survived for so long because it's in every area of Houston. I can vouch that they really harass parents to volunteer. I get they need people but some just aren't interested or want their kids to have the experience to work with other people. Coaches, when they are the right kind, can really be positive for kids. I am a former Parent/Coach. I signed my son up because he was underage for the other leagues in the area and didn't want to force him into a super competitive environment. As others have mentioned the "please volunteer as a coach" emails are abundant, obviously as they want to get as many kids in as possible and more volunteers means more kids get to play. I don't think "threatening" is a good descriptor as the premise is always told as the children may not be able to play (same in every rec league I have been a part of). After 2 years my son was doing well, and had developed a love of the game to where he wanted a more competitive environment. I fully recommend the league as a first step, but warn parents that it is volunteer coaches as most rec leagues are, therefore the instruction may be good or bad. The negative I give it is in the coach training and seeking, they commonly refer to coaching 4-6 year olds like wrangling cattle (or cats) which is not the direction I think anyone needs to look at when coaching. They should instead refer to youth training programs commonly available that are tailored to teaching the game at the age. read more

My son was with this league in the past, and this year we moved to a new area so decided this might be a good way for him to make friends. Of course, that was before COVID-19. The season was cancelled, which is no problem, but usually when something is cancelled you get your money back. In this situation, you can either get credit for next season (my son will be 11 and we planned to move him to school sports next year) you can donate to FFPS (yeah, right) or you have to give them a reason why you want your money back and you need to prove that you have a need for it. It's my money, that should be need enough. But no, you have to divulge elements of your personal finances in order to get your money back. They are hiding behind this presidentially declared disaster as a way of covering themselves while also screwing you out of your money. I have several family members asking for a recommendation for childrens sports and FFPS will not be on my list. What they are doing is pretty rotten. read more

Very persistent organization. Seems like they need all the help they can get, my husband and I went all in for the kids sake. I just think the overall costs should be a lot lower since most clothes were extremely oversized (4-5yr olds) tshirt a and regular shorts would have been much better. As coaches we had to provide all of our own supplies. A lot of paperwork, the organization pretty much sets up all games, as a coach you get the flexibility to create your own schedule. Do not use FFPS at all!!!! These people are crazy!!! They say they want to help you until you ask for help and then they talk down to you and call you names. John and Jack Hendrie are both unprofessional and and rude! Beware of all the hidden rules with this league especially with the friend request option. This league dropped my 5 year old son because I asked them to moved him to another team due to conflict. I was given attitude by everyone I talked to and was called selfish for wanting what's best for my child. FFPS is a joke! It's nowhere near close to being fun, fair, or positive. I should be happy my son was dropped because now I can find another league that actually cares about their paying costumers. They are unethical frauds. When I signed my daughter up, all their information said the entire cost is the $109 I paid up front to register her before any practices or games began. After a few games, the coach's wife has called me many times this past weekend and several times today demanding an additional $35. She says if I don't pay another $35 in addition to the $109 I already paid that they won't let my dauther play any more. This is extortion and is unethical and illegal. They should have told us all costs before we paid the $109 to register, not said it was $109 for the entire season and then later demand another $35 or they kick her out of the league. This is my first and last time I will sign up my son to participate in this organization. FFPS gives you the impression that they are very organized and everything will be nice and smooth. Well, not the case. When I signed up my soon I already had the idea that it will be an organization that will recruit volunteer parents to coach the kids (just like YMCA). But I never expected to have a coach that had no idea of what soccer is, nor is responsible to manage a coach position. As a coach you need to lead by example (get to practices on time, meaning early, be prepared to coach, and be responsible to be at practice and games every time). The first day of practice, we couldn't locate the coach because she told us by txt two days before practice to be on ## field. But when we arrived at the park, she was NOT on that field ## that she told us, we had to look for her. The next thing that happened on that first day, in the middle of the practice she started arguing with another coach in front of all kids, demanding him to move to another field because that was our field. That situation went on for about 20 min (remember, the practice is 1 hour only)... so it was time wasted. Then, to top everything that happened that day, when she called all the parents to gather together so she can introduce her self, she said " Welcome to FFPS, my name is XXXXX and just to let you know I just started my Tax business, so if you are interested I will give you a discount"... I was like , WHHHAAAATTT??? then, she continued saying that this was her first time as a coach at FFPS and she enjoy coaching. I was like, I'm done! ... Another situation that happened at one of the games, is that they had kids from age 10 to 12 playing against kids age 14 to 17.... YEAH!!! very UNFAIR... and this organization stands for FUN, FAIR and POSSITIVE right?... well this was the opposite of that completely!!!..... I contacted the director of the region and she didn't returned my call until two days later. And she said that she was going to talk to the coach. Well, it was the worst first impression because of the bad organization from the beginning and the type of people that this organization uses to coach kids, it's terrible. The coach was late for a game one time and she is late for practice every time. She didn't showed up for practice one day... so I'm very disappointed of the whole thing. When I brought this situation to one of the directors that was at the game one day, he told me " if you are not happy with the way things go, why don't you coach?" ... I was like... So I have to pay for my child and then coach, so some others can enjoy my money... Hell No!!! They should have a policy that if you are the coach and you have a child in the organization, you shouldn't have to pay for the registration at all. but of course, that will not happen. Anyway, I'm writing this so whomever is thinking about signing up their kid(s), PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU DO THIS... this organization is not what they market out there. BE SAFE!! read more

Not happy with this league at all. It is restrictive in participation with the parents... I believe it's a good idea gone bad. Only say "good, great, nice..." . Don't say..."run, kick, get the ball..." Unnatural behavior. The kids are lost...going the wrong direction...kicking the ball to their own goalies without a clue because everyone is forbidden from saying anything. They have substitution every few minutes...someone yells "substitution time"...the kids all run to the side of the field...some sit out...some run in...the "game" starts again only to stop a minute or two later for the same thing. Mass confusion. A great league for two and three year olds but too much money for a parent wanting their child to have a positive experience and also learn a little about how to play a team game. No pro status...just a general concept about soccer...not going to get this here. Might as well join a mommy group and have them run around a field kicking a ball for free. read more
