Likely caused because when asked why I was withdrawing just under $2000 from my account a couple of weeks back I said for myself. They said we need to document a reason and again I said personal use. In 2024 that amount of money doesn't go very far but the more important understanding here is if you don't give them what they deem as a valid reason for withdrawing your money they will close your account. If that is not the reason why Ephrata National Bank is closing my account I dare you to call me and set me straight.

This does not suit our personal interests so we started looking for a new local bank. I walked into Bank of Bird in Hand this past Tuesday and was immediately met with smiling faces offering to help. I met with Naomi, she answered all my questions and more. A long story short; we closed our account at one of the Big Banks yesterday and went to Bank of Bird in Hand, we met with Naomi and opened both a savings and checking account. She was very thorough and the process was easy. Because we are over 55 we have free checking and our savings account is earning 3.92%!!!! Yes you are reading this right; "3.92%"! It's a savings account, I have total access to my money, no long term tie up. I need to maintain a minimum balance of $10k. If I go below the minimum balance, the interest quits accumulating at the 3.92%. As soon as I get the balance back above the minimum, 3.92% begins again. They are also offering 4.59% APY on their 24 month CD. If you prefer a more digital banking experience Bank of Bird in Hand has an App for your smart phone that is very easy to use. Yesterday was a good day for us. We were looking for a better more personal banking experience. We wanted to have someone we can meet with and answer our questions. We found just that in Bank of Bird in Hand. My issue is with the policies and service of Citizens Bank. I have banked with them for over 20 years. Lately, I have incurred service charges on my checking account while maintaining thousands of dollars in all three accounts. These are new and refunded when I question them. Citizens closed the branch closest to me. Now I have to drive a half hour to this branch. Due to a glitch with their app, a clearly printed check from one of my clients will not scan. I therefore have drive to a branch to cash it. On a recent visit, the teller was tied up with another customer's transaction that took well over 15 minutes. A bank manager finally noticed that I had been there for quite awhile waiting to cash my check that would not scan via the mobile app. She opened an adjoining station. She made no apologies for the long wait. Citizens not only closed my branch, they removed the THREE Citizens ATM's near me. What!? Talk about adding insult to injury. This has been a trend in my area. Closing the branch was one thing, removing the ATMs so no contact could be made without a 1/2 drive is inexcusable. If your preference is SERVICE from your bank, I would look elsewhere.

I got an email from the mortgage company that they did not receive my payment for October. I thought it was a scam because it's not like I mail checks. It's an automatic withdrawal from my account. I checked my bank account on line and saw the money had been withdrawn from my account. It had not come back for any reason, therefore, I was sure it was a scam now. Anyway, I called the mortgage company to make sure it wasn't a scam. The mortgage company assured me the last payment they received was in September and directed me back to Santander. So I called them spoke to Melissa, who saw the money came out of my account, she also mentioned that she didn't see any changes that should have prevented the payment from going through. I told her, I know nothing changed so why wasn't my mortgage paid? She said, "I don't know. The money was taken from your account, but it's just sitting there." Then she said, "There's two things I can do, put the money back into your account or stop payment and reissue." I said, "By the time you stop payment and reissue, I will incur a late fee and take a hit on my credit report for paying late." Then she gave me a big song and dance about them reimbursing me if I got a late fee after I provided proof that I was charged, because the mortgage should have been paid. I said, "This is not a Macy's bill we're talking about, it's my mortgage and I have excellent credit how can you fix that on my credit report." I said, "Put my money back, I'll call the mortgage company and pay by phone because I only have 2 days to make the payment before a late fee applies." They couldn't even tell me when the money would be back in my account. Really!!!!! I told them, I wanted something in writing as to why this happened. I am still waiting. My advice is choose any bank other than Santander.
