After a 7 month hiatus from Yelp due to life, I am writing a review while on vacation. The wife and I are staying at the Sanctuary House which is part of the building and owned by the same company as Fullers. A review on the hotel will be coming shortly. Now for the restaurant.
The wife (who never ventures out and tries new food) got the club sandwich. Not sure if she was hungry or if it was that good, but she finished it all (darn her)! I was able to snag a couple of chips/fries or whatever you want to call them. I on the other hand got the taster platter which consisted of three mini pies and three small beers to go with each. One pie was chicken curry, the other steak and onion and the last was a vegetarian with potatoes and greens. They were all really good. My favorite was the vegetarian and I am a meat and potatoes kind of guy. They put some grain mustard in the veg pie that gave it some really good flavor. All in all it was a great meal.
Later on that night we returned and the bar was packed with 20-40 year old locals with a couple of people in their 50's having a good time on a Friday after a long week. Christmas was in the air and the good looking crowd was getting their drunk on. One of the bar tenders was a little snooty (maybe because we were Americans or maybe his old lady broke up with him earlier in the day) but the other two guys were so cool that I forgot about what's his name. The place had a great vibe and there were smiles all around. The wife orders a couple of small bites. The hummus and the sausages. The hummus was ok, but the sausages wrapped in dough and baked were pretty good. Good bar food that was on par or slightly better than the normal bar food.
In conclusion, the food is tasty and better than most pub foods. It is a little on the pricey side in regards to pub food, but the atmosphere and the people working here (with the exception of one) was what really made the experience enjoyable. The location is awesome especially since we were staying upstairs. We will come back. Cheers! read more
