For some reason this place is up where I grew up but until now I'd never gone. I've heard the legends so I was excited to try. Also if you see my reviews you'll see I'm really on an Asian cuisine kick. So first off this is a House. Someone converted a huge ass house into a hibachi joint. Brilliant. I'd love to say it's never been done before but I have no idea if that's true. The idea seems very original. So the from door leads you into purgatory where you wait for your seat at the grill. You can make reservations but you'll have to wait until there are enough people to get a grill. Due to Hibachi's performative nature you want to fill a table. Our Chef who introduced himself as Gordon Ramsey and claimed to be from Italy was amazing. He was possibly the most fun chef I've had. I got the Tuna steak Hibachi. It was a lot of food. Every meal comes with shrimp on top of the meat you're already getting. As well as soup and salad. The food was delicious. I think they use more flavoring liquids that most hibachi places. Our chef used less butter on the rice and eggs than I've seen done at most places. That was better in my opinion. I felt better about eating it. So we finished up and our chef promised to make us waffles if we were there by 6am Saturday morning. So I might switch my favorite Hibachi place. We had a reservation for 6 ppl at 7:00PM. It was my daughter's birthday. We wait until 7:40PM and finally was going to be seated. We watched another family who arrived after us get seated in front of the grill. We got seated on the side in a line. Not even facing each other. Half of our party was seated in front of the empty grill. I expressed to the hostel that we had a reservation for the grill for my daughter's birthday. She continued to seat us where she wanted. When she walked away. I asked my daughter if she would prefer DimSum in phoenixville where we can sit together rather than away from each other for her bday. She immediately said yes snd we got up and left. They over booked. Won't go back. I feel like waiting is an issue everyone we go there. Food was decent. Owner was horrible . He runs the cash register on the way out. Bill was under $40 for me and my small child. Ordered meals not hibachi prepared/entertainment. Paid with $60 cash told them I wanted $15 back. Owner gave me two $5 bills back. I said this is $10. He told me I HAVE to tip more and refused to give me my change. I understand tipping for service and everything. but forcing someone to tip and refusing to give change is messed up. Include the tip prices you want on the menu if it has to be a set amount. While we didn't have a bad experience with service, I can see why people have said what they have about their waiting staff. Other than the waitress with the purple hair, who was really sweet and attentive. Food: Too pricy for what it is. Chicken and shrimp hibachi was ~$30, but it tasted generic and low quality. Chicken was dry and overcooked. The Red Dragon Roll had a good concept as a shrimp tempura roll with eel on top. Only thing was that the shrimp tempura wasn't fresh (possibly even reheated frozen). Apparently the chef left an hour before closing just FYI, so most of the non-hibachi entrees were unavailable. read more

Got seated. Left immediately! We told the hostess that we have two in party that have a gluten allergy. In the past we've been sat at the hibachi and just had the plates with the gluten allergy prepared in the kitchen. It's never been a problem in the past. First, we were sat next to a belligerent drunk that got all bent out of shape when the hostess asked him to move over one seat to make space for us. He was swearing at us in front of our 2 children. Then when ordering the cook started giving us a hard time about being at the hibachi when we had 2 in our party that needed food prepared in the kitchen. Keep in mind the place was NOT full and there was a full hibachi empty. But they wanted to move us to the general dining room when the whole reason we were there was to see the Hibachi!! There is not much that stands out about the food -- everything you would expect at a Hibachi and Japanese Steakhouse, and generally done well. Have been here a few times and have always had a great experience. This last weekend, my son and I joined a friend with her son for dinner here because it's entertaining, food was always good, and what's not to like about hibachi. We made reservations and were seated right away. The chef came out, didn't even talk to us, no Cool volcano or the jokes they usually do, no interaction other then putting food on our plate. We were so rushed, and for $125, i expected way more. We were asked if we needed boxes before we were done eating, never asked if we wanted another drink,. Was very disappointed and will find a new hibachi restaurant to go to from now on. From being seated to leaving was 45 min. I was going to start this with giving a 4 star review only because of the very high pricing on the menu, but I think the atmosphere and customer service I've personally received made it worth it. They have an amazing clear soup and small salad with a good dressing to get you started, the saki is great, and the filet mignon I think is incredible. The sushi is pretty good, the hibachi is good too. We always get the the special salad with raw tuna. Usually it is very good, but they often put way too much dressing even if you ask for light. It's definitely surprising that in the outskirts of the already bucolic 'burb of Pottstown, PA there is a sushi joint. Fujiyama is quaint - its building is reminiscent of an old farmhouse-cum-eating establishment. It's apparently the happenin' place in town for birthday parties - according to their menu, they give you free cake...according to the front wall, your picture gets posted in remembrance of your epic day along with all of the other cheerful Pottstown folk. The sushi was expected. No surprises in either direction. The Kevin roll was huge...aesthetics swapped for quantity, but satisfying and pretty good. The sashimi/sushi was fresh. The tempura ice cream was embarrassingly delicious...probably because by "tempura," the folks at Fujiyama meant "fried in cake batter." Horrible experience! I ordered the steak/chicken hibachi and was only given the steak. Was told by the chef it was his mistake and I wouldn't be charged. Got my bill and was charged for both. I tried to speak with the owner and he immediately started to get angry and aggressive and made it seem like it was my fault. I told him I will pay for my bill as is and never come back which only made him even more angry along with his wife who came out and started yelling. After reading many reviews of this place this is NOT the first time they have treated customers like this.. Don't waste your time or energy even trying this place out. My husband and I have a tradition of getting hibachi every New Years Day. This year with COVID we decided to get takeout. The only positive is that our food was prepared in 15 minutes. I ordered the vegetable hibachi and my husband got the steak and chicken hibachi. Both were not seasoned at all and my husband's steak and chicken were both heinously overcooked. For $27 (his hibachi alone) we expected bigger portions and properly cooked food. I also ordered the salmon roll and spicy tuna roll. Both are clearly not made fresh and caused me to feel nauseous after eating 2 pieces. The dressing for the salad is watered down and the rice is bland as well. We are understanding of the situations restaurants are in with COVID but this just seems like they don't care about the food they are putting out. read more

Wow. Just wow. This place is very close to home and yet we only go on New Year's Eve. It became a sort of tradition but that ended last night. Food is actually very good. Chef last night was not into it at all even though we had 5 kids in our party. Whatever. They overbooked and made our party of 13 SQUISH at a table even tho we went at 4:30 in the afternoon. Kids meal is 10 and under when every other place is 12 and under so my tiny peanut 12 year old ate 1/3 of her dinner and I paid full adult price. Ridiculous. Manager/owner essentially threw us out while we were trying to pay our bill. I've never been treated like that before in any restaurant and none of us plan to ever return. There are plenty of other hibachi joints to choose from. Avoid like the plague. read more

My fiance and I have been coming here for the last couple of years. Judging by the number of birthday photos on the wall at the time I would say they were fairly new to the area. Their sushi is very good so good in fact we haven't bothered to have any of the cooked items on their menu. The fish is fresh and tastes great. This isn't going to be you're upscale sushi joint and thankfully the prices reflect that. It's good quality sushi at a very good price. The owners and staff are great, we try to make it during the weekdays because the weekends can get crowded and with less people around the sushi chef will pay extra attention to you. Since we've been regulars for a couple of years they always welcome us with a nice bowl of miso soup on the house! read more

My wife and I had originally tried Fujiyama right after they opened for business. We literally live within walking distance, so we were very excited about having a nice Japanese restaurant so close by. But had I reviewed back then, I would have given them maybe 2 stars - food & service were very mediocre at best. Opening jitters, maybe? But after a couple years now of hearing others saying how great it was, we decided to give them another shot. SO glad we did! The food is excellent and the prices VERY fair for what you get. The staff is very friendly (though not always very easy to understand :-) ) and the service has been great. They've also added an open deck in the back that gives you about a 20 mile view of the surrounding area, which we have taken advantage of a couple times now. Beautiful at sunset! My only minor critique of the place is the menu - being a totally Japanese/Asian menu, there are many items which are more than likely very new and unfamiliar to probably most people. With that in mind, I think the menu could use a bit more detail in terms of the descriptions of the entrees. Otherwise, fantastic place. We will be back many more times! read more

This was one of the worst experiences I have EVER had at a restaurant. I grew up in Perkiomenville, PA but have lived in Manhattan for 15 years, so I definitely know what good service is and how customers should be treated. In January 2015, my family and I came to this restaurant for my mother's birthday. Our reservation was for 7pm and we arrived a few minutes early. After waiting for about 10 minutes and seeing two other large parties being seated after us, I went and asked the Manager how much longer it would be before we sat down. We had a child with us as well so you can imagine how they can be when waiting for a long time. The manager kept telling me "a few more minutes" in terrible english, but when it got to be 7:35pm and we were still waiting I asked the manager what the issue was. 4 large parties had been seated after we arrived and we were STILL sitting there...waiting and waiting. The manager, in his broken english with his japanese accent, said that I was "making it worse by standing here", and I said "please tell us when we are going to be seated. It's been 45 minutes and we are still sitting here!" It turns out that he forgot about our party and asked us why we "didn't remind him". I said, "that is not our job to remind you that you have a party of 6 people sitting right in front of you, but to refresh your memory, I did remind you about 4 times. Remember, I was making it worse by standing here"? The manager is an idiot but at least we got my Mom's b-day cake for free. It was really disgusting though...just like the food. The bad: We made reservations for 7:30. When we got there, there was no host to seat us and the staff and owner briskly walked past us without a hello, like we weren't even there, for 15 minutes while we stood at the door. Once we were seated we waited 30 minutes to order drinks. 15 minutes later, a really nice couple sat next to my family and they got their drinks immediately. I had three anxious and hungry kids with me. A family nearby had to remind the waiter about us. The complimentary soup tasted like Pottstown water and chicken bouillon. Now the good: the hibachi chef was AWESOME! He was so good with the kids and really put on a show. The food he cooked was very good and there was plenty! Back to the bad: the waiter serving us drinks and condiments was a slob. He tossed our forks on the granite counter at us (like yo dude we have napkins RIGHT HERE) and what little we asked for took way too long and/or never even showed up. All in all: the Chefs and food are good, but there isn't enough staff and the waitstaff they do have is poorly trained and rude - one waitress saw a couple moved to the bar upstairs and said "oh good!" and winked at us like we'd both lucked out somehow. Fukiyama Japanese Steak House (Hibachi) is not your typical place. The resturant resides in a Colonial farmhouse style building ( used to a resturant known as the Halfway House). As you walk in you encounter a small bar that about 8 people could occupy to have drinks and a tv for your viewing pleasure (if you want to change the channel just kindly as the bartender for the remote). The host is a sweet asian lady that reminded me of they typical sweet asian grandma. There are private seating on the first floor as well as the second floor, depending on whether you want sushi or hibachi ( where you sit around a table with strangers randomly placed depending on when they showed up to the resturant). Saying Sushi will get a private table and Hibachi will get you into a room with Habachi tables. The menu has a good selection of Japanese food ( sushi, tempura, salads, soups, teriyaki, udo etc. ) The sushi was fresh and tasty. Hibachi seating was fun, the cook ( guy who cooks for you) was quite entertaining and it gives you an opportunity to meet people. Food was prepared the way you want it and this was the first hibachi that had soup, salad, noodles, rice and vegetables included with your protein selection. Most places offer just salad, rice and vegetables. So, for the price you get alot on your plate. We definitely went a second time but this time for lunch. They have lunch specials that are great and service again was great. read more
