She warned me a drug rep may enter, so not HIPAA compliant. I just wanted someone to listen, but she talked the entire time making false assumptions and suggestions I had already tried. 3rd appt I had a work emergency come up so I was forced to late cancel. I was charged a late notice fee of $75 when the office had done the same to me already, was I supposed to charge a late notice fee? Life happens to everyone. The office is also pretty hard to reach. SMART Recovery is an addiction recovery support group that has meetings all over the world…read more I've been using SMART for over 17 years, after trying other meetings, and I wish I'd found SMART sooner. The meetings are run by SMART-trained volunteers, and the quality of the meetings is rather consistent, with very few exceptions, as the format is the same in each meeting. Meetings are available in many areas, and are free. They "pass the hat" like other similar groups, and if you want reading materials like handbooks, those have a cost, but it's not a therapy service... it's a free support group that can be an alternative to 12-step groups. The SMART "tools" discussed are sensible and helpful not only for addiction recovery but also beyond dealing with a habit you want to drop. It's really a set of life tools, and not simply for dealing with 'recovery' from an addiction. There's no 'spirituality' change that's forcefully promoted at SMART, so it doesn't interfere with personal beliefs in that respect. I've had great success using SMART, where I didn't with other support groups.

Additionally, they tend to favor the thoughts of long standing members rather than those who are new to their group meetings -- this means that if you were to say something that rubbed a longer-standing member in any negative way, they will kick you out for a month or longer until you apologize. Meanwhile, you are still welcome to make purchases through their site. They bend the terms that you agree to so that they can make anything that anyone says inflammatory. All in all, if you are trying to recover from an addiction, this is a terrible resource. The materials sold on this website are inappropriate for the average person to use without the guidance of a mental health/addiction expert., especially considering the protocol of those who manage the chat rooms/ message boards. If you need non- AA help, try Life Ring, Women for Sobriety, or see a psychologist with an addiction specialty.

I think I engaged in a dozen or so rounds of voice mail before I finally got someone and scheduled an appointment. I went in person to fill out the paperwork, which was quite a bit. Their machine was down so I couldn't give them payment for the upcoming visit. They called me to collect payment, and I gave it to them. The day before they called saying they couldn't see me unless I paid, and I told them I already paid. No intra-office communication. I saw Dr. Burns on Telehealth. She was 10 minutes late and dismissive when I mentioned that. She had zero personality. All she did was keep her face into her file to ask me ALL THE QUESTIONS I HAD ALREADY FILLED OUT. Then she administered a yes or no questionnaire with dubious reliability in my view. When my answer was neither yes or no, she got frustrated with me and kept saying "just answer the question yes or no." Then instead of having a shred of interest in me as a person, rather than me as a form to fill out, she wanted to book a month's worth of appointments. I said, "we haven't even built rapport yet, how can I book an appointment?" Then she told me this was part of the intake process, and I mentioned that most of the information she asked was on the papers I spent a long time in her office filling out, and I was being billed for that!!! Needless to say I did not want to see her again to be sure. No warmth, no interest in me as a person, she treated me as a task to complete. No thank you. And even worse, her video was poor quality and she was not in focus. I have a top of the line computer so it was for sure not me. Sorry but there's no way I can recommend her.
