I have had both good and bad experiences at Benhaven Counseling. Scott Brinkman is great. The…read moreoffice staff is difficult. In trying to find out about a drug prescribed for me by one of the other counselors, I hit a brick wall. Twice I have had a prescription refused by my insurance provider. I have tried to resolve this asking if there is a different Rx the insurance might approve as I can't afford the large out of pocket expense. The counselor who prescribed these is either not in or will not return calls. The office staff person who said she would call back did not call and is not in, nor will the other staff member assist me. She said "I don't want to get involved." It's never a good sign when a mental health agency destroys your mental health with its poor behavior. In addition, the prescribing counselor also ordered a drug that we had just agreed I would stop taking. I had no way to stop the order or to reach the counselor. I had to pay for something I no longer can use. Benhaven Counseling is becoming increasingly useless.

Sharon personally invited my family to tour the floor. I rearranged my life, cleared my schedule,…read moretook time off work, and even brought my elderly mother along--only to find that Sharon had vanished without a trace. No apology. No explanation. Just gone, like some petty, salaried ghost. It's astounding how someone can collect a paycheck while contributing absolutely nothing, all wrapped in a performance of disdain and a permanent "F*** You" glare. If Sharon is so miserable in her career--and clearly in her life--perhaps she should consider retirement instead of weaponizing her bitterness against families who are already under unimaginable stress. Her presence feels less like professional support and more like an act of emotional sabotage. If I had the authority to revoke her nursing license, it wouldn't be today--it would have been the moment she first decided contempt was more valuable than care, probably sometime in the 1980s. And let's not forget the time she forgot to hang up the phone, allowing me to overhear her casually label me a "B****." That tiny slip perfectly illustrates the daily theater of disdain she orchestrates: a culture of cold judgment, passive aggression, and thinly veiled hostility. Grace Hospital should be mortified that this is the face of their intake department. Sharon turns what should be moments of guidance and support into exercises in humiliation. Families deserve compassion, patience, and professionalism--not a masterclass in petty cruelty from someone who clearly delights in making others feel small. If I never return to that floor, it would still be far too soon.

Our provider forgot who we were in our second appointment with her and obviously did not look at…read morethe referral or her notes before our session. She failed to take responsibility for her actions and instead had a sarcastic comment about how "we are all human" and frantically tried to figure out who we were without taking any time. Joselyn Vazquez did not value our time. I'm fortunate that my husband buys into therapy and that we will be able to find another therapist, but if your partner is on the fence this unethical treatment can end your marriage. Furthermore, when she did start to "remember" things they were incorrect and she did not complete any housekeeping the first session as we could not join from two different locations (which only happened because she scheduled us on a different date than what we agreed upon in our first session). I reached out to the office. The only communication we have received is asking if we want to reschedule with another therapist. No accountability or action. I have waited a week and a half to hear back.

I was first with Audrey, she repeatedly restated my situation incorrectly so not listening. For example I said I didn't have any friends I felt I could discuss my situation with so she repeated back that I had a good support system. She canceled our next appointment day of so I left a vm to reschedule. Office took weeks to call back. 2nd try was a CNP as Audrey left, when CNP are not trained as therapists. She warned me a drug rep may enter, so not HIPAA compliant. I just wanted someone to listen, but she talked the entire time making false assumptions and suggestions I had already tried. 3rd appt I had a work emergency come up so I was forced to late cancel. I was charged a late notice fee of $75 when the office had done the same to me already, was I supposed to charge a late notice fee? Life happens to everyone. The office is also pretty hard to reach. Sadly I do not recommend this office.

My normal doctor wasn't able to fit me in before I left on vacation so I tried calling around the area to find someone who could. This place was the first to agree to accept an appointment within the same week, and from the service I experienced, now I understand why they aren't seeing a lot of business. The receptionist I spoke with was very cordial; she took my insurance info, told me she wasn't able to match me with a doctor of the preferred sex on short notice (which was understandable), and said I'd be meeting with "Ed." The day before my appointment I got a call saying, oops, they don't accept my insurance after all. I felt pressured the cancel the appointment. When I told them I'd be keeping it after all because there was no way I could find someone else less than a week before I went abroad, they sounded incredulous. On the day of my appointment I showed up 15 minutes early. I waited more than half an hour to be checked in. When they finally called me up front, they asked what day I'd like to schedule my psychiatrist appointment. Perplexed, I said that was what I was there to do that day -- see Dr. Ed. They explained Ed isn't a doctor; he's an intake specialist, and that the doctor would not be willing to see me without an orientation with Ed first. Would've been nice to know before I committed to an appointment, took off work to come, and waited for half an hour. If I saw the intake specialist that day, I could come back in for a real appointment next week sometime. This would, of course, cost me twice as much (off of insurance) since it was two separate sessions. When I asked them reasonably to be flexible being that 1) I was never informed of any of this and 2) was leaving the country that week, the receptionist (a different one) became highly defensive and claimed whoever made the appointment would have properly informed me of their process. When I respectfully disagreed, she accused me of being deaf. I asked to see an office supervisor and she shut the window in my face. I left unsure of whether the preliminary appointment was still on. My experience can't be an anomaly; they seem to have the process of strong-arming new patients into attending multiple appointments fine-tuned. I cant speak to the quality of their doctors because I was never actually allowed to see one. This place is a racket and is staffed by the rudest people. Would not recommend wasting your time at an office where the people working there seem to need help more than the patients.
