When we arrived most of the parking spaces were taken, but there were still a few left. When we went in all the seats in the lobby were full, but we went straight to the cashier. They took our order but when it came to drinks there were only soft drinks and coffee. "No green tea?" I asked incredulously. No.
They only take one kind of credit card Visa/MC. Fortunately after trying my other cards we were able to pay. They suggest a tip of 15%, so I had them add that to my card when I paid. What's this? They gave me the tip in cash to take back to the table. Uh. OK.
It was cold in the lobby and the restaurant. Several in the lobby were wearing coats, some were shivering. (Outside temperature was 82°F). I went out to the car to fetch our sweaters. We waited in the lobby less than 3 mins and we were called. So far so good. By the time we walked to our booth the plates were ready to get our first serving. The drinks arrived before we got back. Service was very prompt. I noticed right away that the salad selection was limited. Lettuce, coleslaw, a few vegetables and dressings. The coleslaw was good however. The entrees were standard Chinese American fare with addition of some things that Puerto Ricans love, mofongo, French fries. There were many things that were deep fat fried and a number that came in sauces of several colors, but who knows what they were! Nothing at all had labels. The only clue as to what might be being offered was a 3x6' picture menu behind the cashier showing main dishes in their plates. So was it pork? Chicken? Beef? Duck?
There were of course quite a few things that I could identify, noodles, shrimp, mussels, simulated crab, fish fillets, a thin steak and of course sushi. Many things were covered in a fried batter so you didn't really know what you were taking until you bit into it.
The best: the sushi was tasty (there were 3 relatively similar kinds), the carrot cake was divine--not too oily and not too sweet. The steak was okay but really thin (millimeters?). There were also 4 flavors of ice cream.
The worst: the simulated crab was dry and tasted terrible. Some of the meats were a little hard on the outside, and there were very few vegetable dishes. Overall this was not worth driving from San Juan (about 30 mins west) to get even if you are dying for Chinese buffet.
It was clean and kid friendly however. One table got a birthday cake with a candle, another plate survived being hurled to the floor by a toddler. If you are on a date and haven't been close lately, this may be perfect. By the time we finished, my wife was glued to my side soaking up the warmth. read more
