Tampa has shifted all rental cars to a separate facility that you reach by shuttle train. The ride takes about five minutes, it runs smoothly, and in the handful of times I have used it, I have never had a delay or a hiccup. It is an easy, predictable part of the arrival routine. National is simple to find, and as an Emerald Aisle member, I still get to bypass the counter and head straight to the garage. I used to be Executive, but I am regular Emerald now, which means choosing from a slightly lower tier. That was not a problem today. For this visit, I specifically wanted a minivan and had my pick of at least a dozen, walking right past a row of SUVs and sedans to get the most boring and generic one with a Florida tag. Exiting the facility and heading to downtown was just as smooth. A friendly agent checked my ID, waved me through, and I was on the road within moments. The van itself was spotless, had fewer than 2000 miles, and ran without a single issue for the entire week. Returning the car was equally straightforward. The signage is clear, the lanes are well marked, and the whole process moves quickly. I had the email with my final receipt before I even stepped back onto the train to the terminal. The day before my scheduled pickup, I was contacted and informed that the large SUV I had reserved wouldn't be available and that they could only offer a 5-passenger vehicle instead. Unfortunately, that wouldn't work for our needs, so I asked them to cancel the reservation. Later that same day, I received another call letting me know that things had changed and the vehicle I originally requested was now available. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone wanted to see if I'd like to reinstate my reservation, and of course I said yes. When I arrived early the next morning, I was greeted by a friendly staff. One gentleman showed me to my vehicle, and while I was outside, the same gentleman I had spoken with on the phone (whose name I unfortunately don't remember) came outside just to thank me for my patience and understanding throughout the situation. He absolutely didn't have to take that extra step, but he did, and it really meant a lot. When I returned the vehicle on Monday, I was greeted by that same young man, and he even remembered my name. That level of personal customer service is rare these days. I was honestly a little nervous after reading some of the negative reviews, but my experience was the complete opposite. This was hands down one of the most dishonest and frustrating rental car experiences we have ever had. We booked and prepaid for our rental through Priceline, with an expected total of $508.98. Imagine our surprise when Fox Rental Car charged us an additional $492.11! How does a rental that has already been paid for suddenly result in nearly $500 in additional charges? Here's how Fox operates, based on our experience: - Unauthorized insurance charges: We specifically DECLINED additional insurance, yet we were charged for it anyway. - Unauthorized prepaid toll charges: We declined the prepaid toll option, but that didn't stop them from charging us. - Duplicate rental charges: We had already paid Priceline for our rental, including the rental period and mileage. Yet Fox charged us again for rental time and mileage. Why are we being charged twice for services already paid for? - Prepaid fuel: We agreed to the prepaid fuel option, but ultimately returned the vehicle with a FULL tank of gas. Another unnecessary expense on top of an already outrageous bill. And when we attempted to resolve these charges over the phone, customer service was completely unhelpful. This is not a simple billing mistake. Multiple charges for services we specifically declined, combined with charges for rental costs we had already paid, raise serious concerns about Fox's billing practices. The state of the car was in good condition I expect outside dents/scratches/etc but the interior has no excuse to be dirty. It smelled nice but the floor boards, seats, and parts of the center console were a bit stained or just dirty. I do understand it's the holidays so they have high turn over and if that's true I can safely assume they hurried and cleaned as much as they could. With all of that being said I'm not upset of the slight dirtiness of the interior. The Kia Forte had all the "bells and whistles" smart driving and high MPG was great for our 9 hour drive North. No issues at all with comfort or driving. I would not recommend this location only due to it's a bit hard to find and get a vehicle if not staying at the hotel itself but it's do-able.
