When I got to the rental counter, I though the guy was swiping my card to pull up my reservation...NOPE! He was charging my card and added all of this insurance and collision without my consent. Ended up once was all said and done, he hands me the receipt with a total of $400!!! What the hell!?! Then! When I went to dispute, they jerked us around, and would not work with us to remove these ridiculous charges. Not to mention, we used the car ONCE! We then went to return the car because we didn't need it...and they wanted to charge us a cancellation fee! The same day I picked up the car. We didn't even have it for 2 hours! What awful customer service representatives. They should really review their staff and management. When we went to return the car, they then tacked on a late return fee because the idiot who checked us out didn't listen to me when I told him our car return time. Nice job....what a genius. I'm never using this rental service again. They are a disgusting excuse for a rental service.

I knew this ahead of time and was willing gamble because the price was lower. Upon landing, there is no shuttle - you need to call the 800 number (apparently in New Delhi) to get the local number and then call for the shuttle. They sent a minivan and there were too many people waiting (seven), so we had to wait for him to unload and return. All in all it took 40 minutes to get to the rental office. After completing the usual paperwork and booking the hotel shuttle for a 6:30 AM return to PIE (this Thrifty doesn't open till 7:00AM, even though I booked with a 6:00AM drop-off time) we went to the car. It was dirty (sand everywhere and filthy outside) with over 50K miles (something you'd expect from Rent-A-Wreck or Ugly-Duckling) and only had 3/4 tank of gas (of course the paperwork said it was full). Obviously they didn't check it when it was dropped off. I took a picture of the gauge but didn't have time to return and wait for them to come out and check. Returned to the hotel on departure day at 6:20 AM with the fuel above 3/4 (took a pic). Went to the counter for the shuttle and learned that the hotel shuttle was in Tampa and wouldn't be back to St. Pete's till 7:15 and that they would call me a cab (at my expense, of course). Apparently Thrifty never made arrangements for the return shuttle. Another family was in the same boat (having made the same arrangements with Thrifty on check-in for a 6:30 AM shuttle to the airport). To the hotel's credit, they then called in another driver and we made it to the airport in time. Upon returning home I rec'd an email from Thrifty thanking me for the rental and charging me $19.00 for fuel. I emailed the pictures of the fuel gauge in pick-up & drop-off showing it was returned with more fuel but no reply 6 days later. I guess I'll just have to dispute it with VISA. Bottom line: when at PIE rent from an on-site agency and avoid the off-site Thrifty/Dollar location. It's just not worth the hassle.

Sorry, but this location is really unprofessional. The car I rented was filthy when I picked it up, after waiting on them to supposedly wash it, though it never was. Update: just as we were leaving Hertz to get into our Lyft to go home, the exact car that was shown in my email reservation appeared in the lot. Which makes me wonder, did they double book it or just give it to someone else that got there before me? I was 15 mins early to pick up the car I reserved. I was told "we have NO Teslas here today". Must have one of the insurance co. they accept and if you don't you're screwed. If you do have one of the insurance co. they accept you must have 300k personal liability. As I chose not to add additional rental insurance, the company required a $2,000 deposit to be returned 14 business days after return of the undamaged car. After 14 business days, I contacted the company several times regarding the non-reimbursed deposit and was told that the $2,000 was scheduled to be credited to my Barclay Credit Card account "tomorrow." As of today, September 19, 2025, the deposit has not been returned.

He demanded the address and I told him you have it there, I don't know I am waiting outside. I got upset and used a bad word, so it was ok to for him to hang up and cancel my reservation. So being treated with kindness and respect is important to us. We found that customer service here was exceptional. The Rep Emma Loftus looked out. She pulled the car up for us. Ensured everything was in order before we left. She made everything so easy for us. When we returned the car, a young man whose name I didn't catch made the return process easy and seamless. This type of customer service is becoming harder to find these days. If we ever need to rent a car again, I guarantee I will be here.
