This week I bought hummus & bagel chips to try. The hummus was really really good. It is really smooth and creamy. The bagel chips were roasted garlic flavored. They were did not have a strong over powering garlic flavor. So both were a win. I will definitely buy again. Another thing that is one of my favorites to buy is the k cup dark roast coffee. 12 for $3.59!!! Huge bargain. If you have children or teenagers this is the place to shop to save money. I recommend visiting as early as possible since we were there around 1pm and most vendors had about half if not less than what they started with.

I read reviews of supermarkets in general and see that people are going off based on one interaction or one experience with merchandise. Except for some bargain type supermarkets in sketchy neighborhoods where they are probably conditioned and instructed to view everyone with suspicion, this negativity does not come my way at most chain supermarkets. Randall's is part of the Safeway family of supermarkets which also includes Safeway (obviously), Vons, and Dominick's, whose catchment area I'm not familiar with. That said, I went in here and ... badda bing ... my Safeway club card worked. The price points of their items are just like those of Safeway and Vons. They are in the mid-range, with some items featured at good prices. That's why you should read your supermarket flyers ... to find those items. I have bought things from the aisles here but, at this location, I have mostly eaten sandwiches from their deli. Now, while they don't have the excellent spread of sandwiches like Safeway (and Vons) had up on their sandwich board about a decade ago, such as the tender Tuscan chicken and hearty meatloaf sandwiches, you can't complain about a nicely decked out, custom made sandwich for $ 5.99. It's practically a complete meal. I could go with a 3 or a 4 with this Randall's. Yes, the employees come in at about a 3. I won't go into detail. Their merchandise and its prices come in at about a 4. How manicured the shopping center, the parking, the circulation to the major streets, and the neighborhood are make for about a 5. The store itself looks like a 4 from the outside but, then, once inside, it doesn't have the higher ceilings that the exterior seems to suggest. Overall, this Randall's is a much better than average supermarket in a very nice area.

This morning I got up bright and early at 630a to help set up tents, tables and chairs, signage for all the vendors to use; met the market mgr Candy (she's awesome) I talked to a lot of people (which I love) and i helped sell Morgan Elementary schools veggies from their garden. I bought some fresh kombucha from 3rd Coast and fresh homemade tamales from, momma's tamales in Houston. It started raining and lightning around 1045a; I needed to leave at 11am so it all worked out. I've helped my friend in her booth a couple of times so I've had the opportunity to interact with not only vendors but also many customers, and the couple that run this market. Everyone has been absolutely pleasant and the couple who run it are so friendly and approachable. There's a wide variety of food, drinks, goods, bakeries, sourdough, farm goods including raw milk, and sometimes people cooking as well. It's great to stop by for lunch and do some light shopping. The other market I've been to was a totally different vibe where the other vendors weren't exactly interested in talking to their neighbors and the lady running it was not the most helpful or friendly. I always get excited for the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays when I know there's a market to go to. Who knows, maybe you'll see me in my own booth some day soon.

I love coming to this apothecary for pungent seasoning and spices. They sell everything in giant…read moremason jars, so you know what you're picking out. They even sell bulk items such as nuts, flour, nutritional yeast, dried fruit, natural detergent, oils, loose-leaf teas, etc. Some are made in-house, including vegan hot chocolate mix. I like getting my seasonings and spices here, opposed to the grocery store, because it is very fresh and hasn't been sitting out for years upon years on end. There aren't a lot of raw vegan restaurants down south of 45, but surprise, surprise, Natural Living has raw vegan onsite. I've only eaten there twice, and due to the limited hours throughout the week. I am only able to get down here on the weekends in the morning. I frequent Nokturne more as a vegan restaurant in CL, just due to the simple fact of the flexibility of hours. At Natural Living, I ordered the taco salad; it was vegan meat crumbles and veggies. There were more veggies than meat. A limited amount of dressing to lather the veggies, so it made the salad a bit dry, but tasty. I loved the peanut butter cookies on sale. They were my favorite. I love that they have a food fair program for organic fruits/vegetables from local gardeners. I'm not a big fan of organic anything as I feel that it is more of a marketing gimmick, but if others care about that, that's a perk. The program is very affordable. I've personally never tried it, but I always wanted to. The ambiance can be a bit off; the staff is sometimes nice, sometimes don't want to be bothered. The apothecary side of things system is just grab jars of what you want, and they weigh it, put it in baggies, and you pay for it. However, things can get complicated when there a multiple people on the apothecary side and there is nowhere to wait since the whole building is tight and small. Now the pricing; this establishment isn't the cheapest, but when you factor in the value of what you are purchasing with the quantity of goods, then you are getting a solid deal. They sell crystal jewelry, and parking is across the street. I always tell people I'm going to the apothecary, and when they Google it, they can't find it, so it is definitely a hidden gem. I would have given them 5 stars across the board, but with the very limited hours not good for the working class working between 8 am - 5 pm; they close at 6 pm, closed on Sundays and Mondays. I hate that, but I will continue to only come on Saturdays.
