My mother and I took the Clipper to and from Victoria for Mothers Day weekend and loved it. It ran on time both ways and the staff was very friendly and seating was comfortable. Much of their amazing staff has been let go with sailings cut due to the current political situation reducing ridership which is a shame. Also the terminal location in Victoria is quite confusing to be dropped off at as it is temporary and not well marked. Looking forward to riding the Clipper again. read more

I've taken the ferry numerous times over the years and it's been wonderful. Easy travel and friendly staff. But this past trip was a complete nightmare. The date of my trip was changed due to a miscommunication on behalf of the agent. The manager at the Seattle terminal did not offer any alternatives. There was no email or phone confirmation about the change and did not find out until I arrived at the terminal. I made the trip weeks later and had to change my departure return twice. The first agent did not tell me that the ferry left at an earlier time on Thursdays. I did not receive a confirmation email and the only reason I found out about the earlier time was that I went to check my seat selections. I called again and the first representative I spoke to, Dana, was incredibly rude on the phone. I requested to change my departure date and she replied, "Do you have a booking number or what? What do you want me to do with this?" I asked for a different agent and she said I could call again. I ended up speaking with Gail, who was rudcondescending and kept interrupting. I'm not sure if these agents are overworked or not getting paid enough but they need a refresher on their customer service skills. It's a shame because I used to recommend the Clipper and looked forward to these trips which I usually take 2-3 times a year. But this past experience has made me hesitant and might consider using an alternative route. read more

Very easy and comfortable way to travel from Seattle to Victoria. For the 8am ferry it was enough to arrive at 7. Check in for comfort class took less than five minutes, and boarding was promptly at 7:15. We did leave a little after 8, but only by a few minutes. Btw comfort class is definitely worth it for the complementary welcome Prosecco and free snacks and soft drinks. Make sure to have your passport or real id for check in. Oh, and a pen for your declaration card! Customs at Victoria took a bit longer, especially as we checked luggage and had to wait until 11:40 to disembark when we arrived at 11am. I would not trust this company. We booked this ferry almost a year before our trip to Victoria BC. The ferry canceled our reservation, without explanation, about a month before our trip. We were traveling from Virginia, and this cancellation was devastating to us since we had booked a hotel across from the ferry in Seattle and had a hotel and excursions in Victoria that had been confirmed. To complete our itinerary, we were forced to take an Air Canada connection to and from Victoria through Vancouver. That was in addition to the four additional cab rides to and from the airports. Hence, much of our vacation was spent in airports. The flights and taxis added over a thousand dollars to the cost of our trip. We also lost almost two days of vacation time because of the flights we were forced to take. Had we been residents of the West Coast this might not have been such a hardship. This was, however, a long way to go for a two-day rather than four-day vacation. Were this a good company they would have told us, when we made the reservation, there was a good chance the ferry might not run every day in September. That would have given us the opportunity to extend our stay or rework our destination. I would be very wary of booking with this ferry if you are vacationing anytime other than high season. read more

The ferry ride from Victoria to Seattle (the FRS Clipper conveniently goes downtown to downtown) is quite scenic, crossing the Salish Sea (I think?) and winding south thru the Puget Sound. I don't mean to sound snotty, but I'm glad I purchased the slightly more expensive tickets so that I didn't have to wait in the overcrowded pre-boarding lobby, which seemed like a Covid factory outlet. The seats on the ferry were leather, for what that's worth, but I gotta say my fellow passengers were in general very loud. There was a constant loud buzz and it got a bit tiring and annoying after a few hours. Possibly, the open seating area and ship's poor inner acoustic properties may amplify normal conversation; I've never thought trains and planes were loud, for the most part. The ferry has a very small outdoor area at the back. The waters in the middle of the channel are a dark, dark blue, almost black and on that day were somewhat calm and lightly textured - beautiful. The ferry passes thru the Puget sound as little towns wind by on either side. Finally, Seattle appears and looks strikingly large as the ship approaches. read more

I have always had a fear of being on a boat in the open water. This trip fully eliminated that fear. Booking was incredibly easy and gave all the options you could ever need. I would suggest arriving an hour before your departure as the check in and customs process can take a bit. Seats are incredibly comfortable, staff are friendly and very helpful. There are snacks, small meals and drinks offered either at a snack counter or ordered and served from your seat. The views are incredible and the ride is easy and comfortable. We purchased a tour of Butchart Gardens on board. The Clipper staff made that process so easy. Can't say enough good things. I would certainly book with them again. read more

I booked Butchart Garden tour and transportation to follow our Clipper arrival. It allowed us to get off the Clipper first. Of the two locations, the Victoria Canada FRS falls squarely into "could do better." It's clearly not as smooth or orderly as the Seattle location, and strollers aren't required to be folded prior to entering the seating area. This caused a few painful issues since the aisle wasn't large enough for them to fit through and yet they still pushed them through. For seating, in Seattle the first 20 rows were called after Comfort, but not so here, so a large crush pushed forward when everyone from Vista and Economy were called together. I originally planned to buy Comfort VIP, but the FRS Clipper site has a design flaw that won't allow you to set up Comfort for one way, but default to Vista if it's full coming back the second lap. I'm not sure why they didn't want to take my money, but it might be something for them to look into adding an option for. Another odd thing I found surprising, is that Comfort isn't off boarded first and the ship isn't off boarded in stages. Personally, I'd pay more for that - especially getting back to Seattle and it would definitely make walking down the rather steeps stairs a more pleasant experience. All in all, not too bad, but the FRS Clipper definitely have a few points they could improve on. read more

We took the FRS Clipper when traveling to Victoria and back home, which was a good way to travel. The FRS Clipper is located in downtown Victoria at the Belleville Terminal. The process was easy and straightforward to board on the clipper. We went to the terminal, went through customs and then staff directed you to your seat. No disruptions on the ride home, except for one abrupt stop we had to make for a small boat who was cruising on by. The ride home to Seattle from Victoria was less than three hours. Throughout the clipper, there were racks where you can easily store your carry-on. There was also a refreshments stand where they serve a full menu of sandwiches, salads and smaller items, with drinks. Staff also checks in with passengers to order items. I'm glad we were able to travel by marine to Victoria, which was a relaxing and easy way to do it. It's not cheap, but it's worth doing at least once. read more

Started off well.... but then not so much. The ferry was lovely, our luggage was delivered to our hotel. But- we had a package deal and the next day we were to go to Bouchard Gardens. We arrived early because of B.C. Day street closures, as requested. We checked in for our trip and walked to the new bus pick up point outside the closed off area... and waited... and waited... along with many other confused individuals. The Bus to Bouchard gardens did not show up. Representatives did not come to the bus pick up area or call us to let us know that the bus was not coming once they learned that the bus was not going to come. We had to walk back to the ticket desk to request reimbursement. Our Trip included 2 neurodiverse youth and my 79 year old mother in law. The wait was so long and so unresolved for so much longer than necessary that the entire day was poisoned. Our kids are Emotionally drained, Frustrated, Cranky and their sense of extreme injustice permeated the remains of the day. Though our tickets have been reimbursed, the recovery is much more intense than it might be if only someone had come to us in short order to explain and apologize. read more

Took the Clipper to Victoria last week. We chose seats by the window and were pleased with our selection. It would be nice if they had WiFi or outlets to charge phones / laptops. Same Clipper, different country... The Victoria Clipper from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada to Seattle is just a smooth and scenic as the ride in reverse. I will say that the office at this location is a bit lackluster (dated) compared to the more modern one back at the Seattle, Washington port. There is a lot of history, culture and architecture all around the area, but this is definitely a place that could use some renovations in the future. Overall good customer service and very polite professional customs officers... Customs was definitely the most up to date aesthetically and all in all. We were able to leave our bags here early in the day on our last day here and tour about before heading back, which is a plus for sure when visiting. I know the Clipper has been down since March/April, but hope you can enjoy the experience when they are functioning again in months ahead possibly as soon as a month... read more

The clipper is a different way to get to Victoria/Vancouver Island from Seattle. The views are good if you want to spend for a window/panorama seat. Staff are friendly throughout (check-in, boarding, attendants during the ride). This particular ferry experience is a somewhat similar to flying: similar check-in process, checked bags and carry on limits, and there's an attendant in at least vista and comfort classes to take drink/food orders. There's a few ways flights are significantly better though: - space below the seat in front of you actually fits some carry-ons but Clippers does not - no overhead storage, just big shared areas to drop bags, and if you're in vista or comfort you likely won't be anywhere near your bag which may not be ideal) - checking a bag is often free with some airline programs. You pay for every checked bag on Clipper - the 8am departure (and 7am boarding) time is the only option and will put you into victoria 3-4 hours before any hotel allows checking in May take this again in the future for a short trip to Victoria, but for any extended (more than 2 days) stay on Vancouver Island we'll probably take a normal ferry with a car from Port Angeles. read more

So for a 5 hour tour into Puget sound only to see a small pod of Orca from ¼ mile away I say hard pass. While the boat ride is very pleasant scenery wise and yes they did indeed find Orca eventually, the viewing from the boat is very limited. Sure if you were lucky enough to get a spot you may have an enjoyable time. However once people had their spot they didn't budge and the FRS crew did nothing to move people along so everyone gets a fair shot at seeing wildlife. DO NOT TRUST THAT YOU WILL GET BACK!! I was excited to do an overnight trip from Seattle to Victoria with my adult children. The ride up was uneventful and we arrived on time. We were not scheduled to leave until 6:30 the next day and had a number of plans. I woke up to an email advising that our trip was cancelled. The only option was to call the customer service which we did and after an hour and a half we put in our number for a call back (which we never received). We then had to scramble to find a way home. Luckily we did get flights with Kenmore Air at the cost of $600. So our day in Victoria was shot by this time as our flight left much earlier than our Ferry would have. Around 3:00pm in the afternoon I received a call from their customer service advising that the Ferry was down and would not return to service until Monday! I asked what if I was not able to get a flight, would you pay for our hotel, the answer was they were willing to return the cost of a one way ferry. How do they do business!! Or stay in business. Most companies would have a back up plan or another ferry! At this time I could not recommend their service to anyone who was not willing to be stranded on an island. What makes this even worse is the poor customer service. It is very apparent that they just do not care. While looking at the reviews I do not see any current favorable reviews, now I know why! We were booked to sail from Victoria to Seattle tomorrow evening. We had booked our hotel in Seattle just a few blocks from the terminal since it gets in late and we wouldn't have to pay for a taxi or walk too far. We got an email late this morning that our ferry was cancelled! Spent 45 mins on hold only to be hung up on! We had to walk to the ferry building to get anyone. We were forced to pay over $800 for last minute airline tickets, $50 for a taxi to the airport on both ends!!! Horrible customer service!!! Trapping people on an island with no back up is unacceptable!!! You can not rent a car to get on a car ferry and leave it in Seattle, you can get on the other ferry, but then are stuck on a bus for over 3 hours from Port Angeles to Seattle and a taxi to the hotel. A great way to travel to and from Seattle to Victoria. I highly recommend selecting the comfort class. It allows for accelerated boarding and a upgraded cabin with the best views leather seating with non alcoholic-drinks and snack included (alcohol and food items also available for purchase). Also private bathrooms. The ride is 3 hours and found it a great way to travel. The portion that isn't so likeable is the custom lines on either end. Very disorganized and long lines. Gayle and I recently took the Victoria Clipper the Inner Harbour back to Pier 69 in Seattle, from where we came several days earlier. It would have been faster to fly, but I also like trains or boats and the more leisurely and scenic journey that this represents. Of course this option took a little more planning and effort. When we arrived back in Seattle, we walked to Pike Place Market, hung out a Pike Brewing, walked over to the University Light Rail Station, rode to the Airport and then flew back to Oakland on Southwest. Was it worth the trouble over the comparable YYJ-SFO Round Trip with Transfers? Absolutely and it was significantly cheaper and of course a Beauty Way To Go! One thing I wondered about was how US and Canadian Customs worked. Would the Frost Back-seeking Border Patrol board the boat at the Maritime Border and deport us back to Canuckistan? Would we be forced to convert our valuable Loonies to "At Par" Dollars? Nah, all's quiet and friendly below the 49th Parallel. Here's the 411.eh?: - Canada Immigration and Customs is located in Victoria. All I said was "Long Weekend", handed over my form and passport, and it was onwards to a Victoria Day Holiday of "We stand on guard for thee"... - The US Side is more curious. The Immigration folks are in Victoria and Customs people are in Seattle. Maybe they wanted two chances to ask about any Cuban Cigars or Rum? Except for the initial queue, these border checks were also painless and it was a nice bonus that we didn't have to fill out the declaration form. The Victoria Clipper itself is a 2-Level passenger-only ferry. Food service is prepackaged and beer/wine are available for purchase at very reasonable prices. You can also bring your own provisions on board. There's also a limited Duty Free selection (Alcohol, Fragrances, and Tobacco) since we were traveling in International waters. The airline-style seats are also comfortable and it's easy to move around. The Boat Ride itself was very pleasant and smooth. I especially enjoyed the Inner Harbour scenery as we departed Victoria and the Seattle Skyline that greeted us when we returned. The Clipper also arrived early ahead of it's scheduled 2.5 hour journey. However, that time savings was eaten up by the disembarking procedure (those without luggage first, those with second) and the US Customs queue. Gayle and I would both love to return to Victoria again by Boat and then drive Up Island for a few days. Maybe it will be the Clipper or maybe it will be the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes to Sydney. The clipper gets a four-star because of the convenience factor and the relative ease of the trip. We parked at a hotel nearby, took a cab down Arriving about 40 minutes before we were supposed to take off. We queud up in line and we're on the boat with 30 minutes to spare. It's like a choose your own adventure book once you get on here, only did venture is do you sit on the first or second level and do you face boards are backwards. Neither time that we were on the clipper, did we have any trouble sitting where we wanted. There is an option to upgrade to what is effectively comfort class, for $20. It sounds like you get snacks and beverages for free if you there. It's also in the front of the top level of the boat, so you probably have the best views. We didn't choose to utilize it this time, but in the future we may. They have snacks available at counters on the lower and upper levels, as well as having folks that walk around taking orders. It's very similar to being on a plane. Beer will run you about $7-9, and a snack somewhere around $10-15. Like many of the airlines now, the snacks that they have for purchase are fairly high-quality. They did a number of meat and cheese trays, as well as a smoked salmon tray. It's not anything that's going to fill you up, but it's a nice little snack and something fun to share among friends or loved ones. The only thing that they really need to fix here is getting Wi-Fi onboard. You're able to use your phone To get cell service while in the US, and if you have an international plan, you're able to do it once you get into Canadian waters. Definitely a first world problem, but it seems that having some sort of Internet available on a trip that routinely takes at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours is fairy standard anymore. Instead, we had to socialize! When all was said and done we had a very nice time heading up to Victoria. The boat was comfortable, and we had very smooth seas. There were a number of times that a few of us went outside due to some of the Rocking of the boat that left us a little green, but once outside, all was well! Final tip, it's best to take a light jacket here. Outside can get pretty chilly when the boat is really moving. The cost was something like $75 each way per person and while a bit pricey, It's way quicker than driving, and you're going to have to take a boat at some point. This is a great way to start off a trip, with the drop off point being right downtown, near to most things that you're interested in. read more

Alternative transportation offered was a joke at time hours later arriving in Seattle at 1AM. Of course rearranging hotel and return travel was costly. Company did not compensate for this. This was the way to go when traveling from Seattle to Victoria. I was a little hesitant about spending three hours on a boat, but the seats were so comfortable and the ride was so smooth that it was no problem. When we went (Labor Day up, Saturday back) there was plenty of seating both ways. We went for Vista class, which has more comfortable seats - well worth the extra $15. Everything was very quick. We waited on board about 10 minutes while those without luggage and those on tours disembarked, but then we just walked off (with a slight wait in line for customs, which was a breeze). The waiting area is small, but considering you're only there for 20 minutes, it's bearable. read more

The way that the squeeze people into the waiting area in Victoria is awful. It stinks, is overcrowded and is just terrible. I am astounded that this is up to code. Booked our tickets online. Seattle to Victoria. Check-in went very smoothly. We got there early and thought we'd be first on board to get good seats but found out everyone is put in boarding groups. I guess that's fair. We ended up getting great seats anyways. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They offer motion sickness medicine before they sail off. Great for me since I forgot to bring some with me and every since that one time I went whale watching being on a boat just doesn't agree with me. You can bring food and drink on board and they also offer a small menu. We got a couple of coffees and they were great. You can also purchase things from Duty free. We purchased two bottles of liqueur. The views are beautiful. The water was a bit choppy once we got out in the strait but overall the ride was smooth. Getting off the Clipper went smoothly. As you approach the immigration officers you pick up your luggage. Once you exit the area there are taxis waiting. We were lucky to get the last one of the line. It was a short distance to Enterprise car rental place who reimbursed us for the taxi fare at the end of our trip. Be careful when you go! We just got off of this abhorrent death trap and had approximately one hour of the worst chop and sea turbulence I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, my husband and I still feel terrible even though we are finally on dry land. The boat was moving from side to side, up and down, over likely 10'+ waves. Approximately 60% of the boat threw up, there were people in tears, laying on the ground, and enormous waves were crashing up and down the sides of the boat. While I'm understanding that there may be turbulence during this time of the year, the captain/staff did not prepare us for what could have transpired or gave us the option of delaying our trip. There was a light mention of possible rough conditions, but nothing definitive. They mentioned the weather came in quicker and harsher than they expected at the end, but could they not have turned around early into the trip if they expected this to have happened? I would have also appreciated more regular updates on the conditions, especially through the worst of it. It was an absolute disaster of a trip to kick start our 2-year wedding anniversary. We will be asking for a refund. The Clipper had no business making the trip this morning and the lack of communication in this specific situation was awful. read more

I've done the clipper several times now, and it is pretty damn easy. On the Seattle side, you'll have to traverse down the long outside corridor to the counters towards the back of the pier. There will probably be two lines, one going to the San Juans and the other to Victoria. There isn't much space back there so it might be confusing. After your Passport is checked you'll go to a second waiting room before boarding the ferry by group number. People will likely crowd the pathway regardless but try and check in early to get a better number. Once in Canada, you'll go through a more formal Passport check and screening. It's usually really easy. Sometimes you'll get a stamp, sometimes not. I suppose you could request one if you really want one. The Victoria side is similar, but they also have a weird rat maze setup with red arrows on the floor directing you to where you will eventually get into the second room for boarding. Again, you'll get checked on the US side for country access. The boat itself is pretty comfortable. There is seat-side service which is a little slow, but friendly and accurate. You can also just go up the the counter to get it yourself, lazy bum. The food is airline food. Though the spinach salads looked pretty fresh. Be sure not to sit in the row that has lots of foot room. You'll be tricked into thinking this is a good idea but lots of people will pass through constantly to get coffee or clueless old people will be going back and forth to find their seats. Also, no table. Better off getting one of the window seats or the middle seats that face each other. You don't have a whole lotta choice if you wanna go to Victoria anyway, but this is nice. No complaints. Check online ticket prices, there are often pretty big deals for going at specific times. read more

The easiest, most comfortable & scenic way to travel from Victoria to Seattle. It takes 2.5-3 hours. We sat in an area with 6 seats (2 rows of 3 seats) with a table in between. The Clipper wasn't full so there was an empty seat between us & another pair. We could easily put our backpacks either on the empty seat or under the seat. It was nice to be able to nap, eat, walk around & take pics outside during the journey. Plus not deal with TSA hassle. The downside is it took long to go through immigration when leaving Canada. Immigration opens 1 hour prior to departure but by the time we went through, our boarding group was already called & they were boarding the next group. Would be better to coordinate the immigration queue with boarding groups. TIP 1: check online for fare specials. For about $150 roundtrip, the Clipper will take you from Pier 69 to the Victoria waterfront. It's about a 2.5-3 hour ride. Prices vary depending on the time of year you go: http://www.clippervacations.com/seattle-victoria-ferry/ Check in one hour before the ferry departs so that you can board earlier. The upstairs seats are preferable, especially if you can get a window seat with a table in front of you. There's fewer seats upstairs, but downstairs isn't so bad if you get a table. Otherwise, it's kinda like being stuck in a row of airplane seats. Tight fit. For some reason, it takes longer to unload on the way back to Seattle. There's not many food options on the ferry (or at least ones that are good). Feel free to bring food, drinks, and even alcohol. The ride is pretty smooth sailing until you reach the dock. That's when the ferry starts rocking for a few minutes. You can buy sea sickness pills onboard for 25 cents. I usually get super seasick on boats, but I was fine with the pills. I'd recommend the Clipper any day. Kinda surprised that it costs as much as it does, but there's not many options to get to Victoria and this one is convenient. read more

The Victoria Clipper is the best and most economic way to get from Seattle to Victoria. We had a great experience on the Clipper the day we went to Victoria! the weather was cool and sunny. We saw pods of Orca...AMAZING! The water was calm. Overall fun experience. I usually get a little sea sick.....but, didn't . The Clipper does have travel meds available if you feel a little sick.....but, some people say....STAY AWAY from those....because they leave you a little hung over. Glad I didn't have the need! *** We chose to sit where we had a table....there were 5 of us. Anyway, I dropped a camera lens under the table and my Uncle said, ...No Problem...I'll get it . Not 2 seconds later, I managed to spill my Sprite.... and it "Rained" on top of his head.....after a couple seconds of profanity, he said, .....Whatever that is, "I Pray To God it's Not STICKY ! ! ! ! ....we were all laughing our heads off ! ! ! I still laugh out loud when I think about it ! We then had a Perfect Day in Victoria....then back to Seattle! Can't wait till our next visit ! read more

The 2nr and 45 min Victoria Clipper Vacation ferry ride from Seattle was fine with whale sightings and passed a submarine coming into port. Marc, our comfort cabin host was responsive and pleasant. Once we got to Victoria the off boarding through immigration took nearly an hour even though we had "expedited passes" from booking comfort class...that meant nothing. When I asked the agent why we received them if they didn't do anything the response was literally "It's a long story and we're trying to work out some kinks" Now, heading back to the boat and the immigration was backlogged. The process needs significant improvement and if you're going to . provide and advertise expedited movement through immigration then it should start with priority debarkation of the vessel. read more

First off, the staff is nice. The know what they are doing and weren't weird or did anything unusual. Now, the ferry. For the price, it has to be the biggest rip-off this side of travelling carnivals everywhere. For the incredible cost of $150, I was sandwiched in a seat at a table with no leg room on the way to Victoria. The waiting room is cheap plastic chairs in Seattle; the terminal in Victoria is a double-wide trailer, with two bathroom stalls for a boat that holds nearly 300. Imagine that women. The ride itself shocked me that for that cost not a free coffee in site- or water. Or anything. This boat ride is worth $60 at best. Bad food selections akin to airplane food. I was surprised at that, since they make two trips a day they could have amazing food choices, which they claim they make in the Seattle cafe. The guests I sat with, as I was solo, had three wrong orders among them, which is hard to do with pre-packaged food. They said it was terrible food, and I believe them as I saw it. The way back from Victoria to Seattle the boat was somewhat empty. The seats are just like narrow airline seats, and they could be clean or not clean. They don't have wifi, so prepare yourself for nearly 3 hours of boat riding. They have a small deck in the back of the boat for viewing. We hit some swells and they did a good job of slowing down and make it less obnoxious. All in all it was like taking a greyhound bus on water. It was good for once, now I hope I never have to do it again. read more

Paid extra for comfort class. Showed up 2 hours early literally first 10 people to show. They end up bring people who show LATE up in front of hose who come early So we had middle seats NOT window ( which was WHY we showed up 2 hours early. NOT worth it totally awful and unorganized herd like boarding. Yes totally pissed. Wont do this again! read more
