By now you all know I love avoid doughnut. This place was recommended to me by another area chef. Super cute place with friendly staff. We bought an assortment of the 25 or so flavors they had. The blueberry cake donut was the most blueberry donut that a donut has ever blueberried, fantastic!! The yeast doughnuts were light and fluffy. The chocolate glaze made me sad for all the mediocre doughnuts out there. The only downside I can think of is, I think I'll never be able to settle for donuts from anywhere else ever again. They're only open Friday through Sunday, get there and get there early, you'll be glad you did. I'll be back soon. read more

So this is another example Yelp gave us bad info. Yelp claimed Frosty's opened at 5:30 so naturally at this point we have learned to call ahead. We called and the gentleman answered and said not all of his doughnuts are out yet but he'll get us squared away. So we go.... the window said they didn't open until 7 I believe. A little foggy now on the opening time. Either way the gentleman let us in, we tried 6 doughnuts. He threw in an extra twist and we were on our way. We liked the doughnuts..... the glazed blueberry was our favorite. The doughnuts kinda reminded us of DD when they were fresh made on site. Good doughnuts, nice guys. I wanted a plain coconut but they said they didn't make those. They told me to hold on a minute; they had just made a batch of old fashioned donuts and they made a coconut donut for me. It's a crazy-busy Saturday and I went in to order some donuts for a patient whose birthday is this week (I'm a hospital chaplain). The young woman who helped me could not have been nicer. She recommended yummy things and never made me feel rushed. She was, at the same time, super efficient and finished my order is good time. The huge line kept moving. I stopped by Frosty's Donuts accidentally after taking a wrong exit off the freeway. To my bewilderment, I was in Bowdoin College town that was filled with great local eateries. Frosty's Donuts has one of the best donuts and coffee in the USA. I initially only ordered 1 donut and was easily persuaded by the lady behind the counter and by the alluring aroma in the shop. So I ended up getting 4 to share between me and my boyfriend right before lunch time. My favorite were the coconut cream and chocolate maple donut. It was already past noon and the donuts were still in perfection. The dough was even somewhat elastic when you pulled the donut apart, making these donuts perfectly moist! All the creams were perfectly mixed too as it delivered the perfect about of sweetness and fluff to the more solid donut counterpart. I will never forget the owner behind the counter who was undeniably kind and hospitable. By the way, you can thank the lady's son for such a gem in a little town! If it wasn't to raise a family in Maine, Bowdoin would not have such a great local spot like this. Until we meet again! read more

The donuts were great, but I want to talk about the service. The owner made me my own donut when I mistakenly thought he said they had a lemon-raspberry filled donut. He said, "We don't, but if you wait a couple of minutes I can make you one!" I promised him I would give him a rave review, and he laughed and said "Only if you like the donut!" I have enjoyed Frosty's for the last 11 years. They are a great donut shop. The atmosphere is quaint and good for coffee and a place to chat. The product is good and tasty. I have been disappointed as of recently. The current owners have decided to not have donuts made on premise anymore, but at a central location. From there, they are shipped to their locations throughout Maine. For me, this lessens their quality. Also, I used to enjoy hot twists--glazed donuts twirled into a knot--and since they are not made there, no more warm donuts. There have been many times where they ran out of twists at 9 am, and since they don't make them there, that was it for the day. They seem so concerned with expanding their business, they have forgotten basic tenets of business, such as keep your shelves stocked. Running out early in the morning seems flawed, especially for a business that is catering to the breakfast crowd. My wife and I go here less and less, and so do my co-workers. In fact, we used to get donuts when they opened at the crack of dawn, now, we don't even purchase them. Just not the same. read more

FROSTY'S has reopened under new owners Shelby and Nels. The donut recipe is the original and the donuts, excuse me, doughnuts, are made fresh every morning beginning at 4am. Twists are OUTRAGEOUSLY delicious but get them early. These sell out first. The chocolate, chocolate glaze are my favorites. The inspirational religious wall treatments of the past are gone except for one nice homage to June and Bob Frost, the originators of Frostys...see if you can spot it when you're here. (I'm writing this from my table as I get my morning fill of yummy.) As a Bowdoin student, I have been quite familiar with the place. And with all biases aside, this place is amazing! The donuts are by far the best donuts I have had, especially the twists, the raised glazes, the blueberry glaze, etc. The price is very reasonable, and the staffs are extra friendly. I also love the fact that they open until 4pm instead of 12pm like they used to. I have to give it to this little local business, they really try to please and they serve a damn good doughnut. Being a self proclaimed foodie, in going to confess I'm a warm fresh Crispy Cream fanatic. To me that is morning crack and thank God they don't have one near me or my fitness levels would surely plummet. Having said that, Frosty's Dounut ain't helping my cause. They make a twisty that I have actually woken up at 4am to catch straight from the fryer. Yummmmmm! The coffee is good, the doughnuts are great, the atmosphere is local home grown with classic 50's style booths sporting pink laminate, and the service is straight from Mayberry. I could see Andy and Barney catching there morning conversation here over a jelly filled and a twisty. My only complaint with this place is there supply chain. For some reason, and it could be the sporadic supply and demand trend, there are times when you can show up at Frosty's and there just aren't any doughnuts. I'm not kidding. It's like they were robbed. This is normally closer to noon, near closing time, but today it was at 8:30am! BAAM! Not a doughnut in sight. This is a problem and they need to better regulate there supply trend. Cause I'm watching people turn away, none to happy as I write this. There are competitors in town and if they have doughnuts while Frosty's doesn't, you can do the math. This brings me back to the customer service. Sitting here at 8:30 with no chance of a doughnut in sight, I sat myself down, dejected and a little annoyed that I made the morning trek to satisfy my sugar craving only to denied when sure enough the owner of the shop, probably witnessing the air blowing out of my emotional tires, brought over three (sold out) twists that were too small and marked for destruction. Bless him for pumping me up with happiness. The people here really are great and they do try to please, but mind you I was lucky, there were many turned away. THE IMMACULATE CONFECTION!! In honor of National Donut Day, I figured I should review the best donut shop I have ever been to. As previous reviewers noted, the place is COVERED in religious posters and neon signs. Pretty awesome. It is as though every fried delight was handed down by God herself, so all those in the Midcoast Maine region could sit with their family at the table and enjoy a small taste of what awaits them in heaven. We moved to Topsham, just over the Brunswick line a few months ago and I don't know why we waited so long to try Frosty's donuts. It's my birthday weekend so I asked the hubby to bring home some Frosty's. He came home pretty quickly with a box of assorted goodies. I bit into a glazed donut and it just melted on my tongue and was so good!!! It was like a Krispy Kreme on crack, it was that good. Then I had a Double chocolate and it was perfect. Not too sweet and light and fluffy. What really impressed me was that we didn't know it was cash only. So when Matt pulled out his card and they said their atm was broken, the woman told him they would be there all day today and tomorrow and he could come back and pay. I didn't believe Roby H. when he said the donuts were sold out by 8:30 - that was dumb of me. I got to Frosty's a little after 8 on a Thursday morning and there was only about two dozen donuts left. Everything was delicious. The yeast donuts are fluffy but still had a nice chew to them. My favorite cake donut was the blueberry and favorite raised donut was the boston cream - which I'm not usually a fan of. Tip: If you have self control, order the cinnamon roll. If you lack self control but don't mind eating a cinnamon roll the size of your face then get the cinnamon roll. read more
