Great ice cream and fast service, but the food is just okay, and everything is pretty pricy for an ice cream joint.

Probably the best low budget ice cream place in the mitten. Wait till they have a special flavor you like, won't disappoint!

I have lived in this community for 40 years. I have gone to this establishment for years before…read morethat. Today we drove over to pick up lunch and ended up with two very simple issues. 1. A hit dog was missing from our order. 2. Every time we get hot dogs we specifically ask for LIGHT catsup and mustard. Each and every time we get the hot dogs they have so much slop on them you can't even get them out of the package without having an huge mess So today we decided it was time to make our complaint at least heard. My husband called initially and the owner Ashley (?) Offered to replace the hot dog. She wouldn't let my husband even explain about the catsup and mustard issue. She talked over him and never stopped long enough to get it out. He got louder but not rude. She claimed she didn't have to take it and hung up on him. I tried 5 times to explain and she stridently talked over me. Told me we were rude, that because we are old we expected that the customer was always right. Yes Ashley we are! We called for empathy and a possible correction on the catsup and mustard in the future and ended up being told 1. Come get another hot dog. 2. We were rude to try and tell her about the condiments and 3. She didn't have to take us trying to get a word in sideways 4. That the customer is not always right. That we believed that because we were old I will never go back! We USED TO stop by a couple times a week! My kids visit from Lansing and love to stop by for memories sake. I will do everything I can to stop anyone from being insulted by a business owner If enough people want to be treated like we were treated ed today, I guess they will stay in business but... My guess is that sooner or later if enough people in this small town get insulted and talked over when calling about an over abundance of condiments and a missing hot dog, the owners will fail. No excuse for treating us this way! Sometimes is about listening and respect not a replacement hot dog (which we explained we didn't want) Nuff said!

This small town, independent ice cream spot does it right. They offer a special weekly ice cream…read moreflavor, and weekly food specials. This is a window or drive-through service operation. They always have quick, friendly service, and their weekly variety options keep people coming back for more. They remain open long after the other ice cream businesses have closed for the season. This is my local drive-through for a burger or a Coney dog, and ice cream, of course.

A day at the lake deserves a treat for lunch, and after a quick trip up to Round Lake (next to…read moreDevil's Lake) this fall, my better half and I decided to grab a bite locally. The Sandbar Cafe was a new spot that we hadn't tried yet, and after perusing the menu, we decided to make that our stop for lunch. The idea of a soup/salad/sandwich combo in some permutation of those choices was the perfect thing. I decided to go really wild and try the quiche of the day, a leek and bleu cheese quiche, as well as a bowl of the sweet pepper soup. With both items warmed up, it was just the thing to chase the chill in the air away. If the stuffed sweet pepper soup is on the menu when you visit, order it with confidence. It was the perfect balance of a little sweet a tiny touch of heat, and hearty enough to be filling. The quiche wasn't my favorite (I think I'm just too partial to a quiche Lorraine to be adventurous with other ones), but it was still good. Served with a cookie on the side, it was a filling and delicious meal. The owner was friendly and helpful, providing recommendations for the menu and chit-chatting with us as we ate that day. At the end of the meal, she even offered to recycle my Diet Coke can from lunch that day -- the eco-friendly aspect definitely gave the place a boost in my mind! I'm already looking forward to my next visit to the lake, and another helping of that sweet pepper soup!
