My $200 Hokka Speedgoats fell apart after 3-4 months, they were kind enough to replace them with some New Balances and all i paid was the difference. The New Balances lasted maybe 5 months. I was served by the owner of the Bowen Rd store. He was very impatient and had this weird attitude like I was wasting his time. I tried one pair of shoes and they were almost great except the heel was very uncomfortable. His reaction was "yah, you're never going to be happy %100 with any shoe".....um, what? He never smiled once. I went into the store next door (also owned by the same person) and was treated the same way...like I was an afterthought or something. I you want good customer service, don't go into this place. I read another review of this place here on yelp that mentioned the people in this place made him feel like a shoplifter and that's exactly the way I felt and the way I was treated. read more

Been here a few times, staff has been consistently friendly on each visit. What I enjoy best about this store is they treat everyone the same; I consider myself a slow, overweight 50 something year old runner, they just see "a runner". There is a genuine interest in what my needs are and what runs I have coming up. This is also an excellent little area to shop as there is a bike shop and New Balance store next door. read more

If I could star-rate this a 0/5, I would. I used to be an avid runner but C.K. has caused me a LOT of problems by making up stuff about me. I'd have to say I'm 65% from where I was emotionally before C.K. intervened. It's been 20 months since then. If you go into their store for the first few times and if you don't buy anything, they'll stereotype you as a shoplifter or a waste of their time. I ended up buying a bunch of things later on. They'll also expect you to buy something on every visit. They're even worse than Best Buy clerks. I later developed a hobby as a shoe photographer and the people were talking to her about me instead of letting her talk about herself. To avenge for the loss of attention, she got me kicked out of my gym that I've been a member of for 19+ years and plotted a death threat to get me suspended from work. I still had one month left on my membership and Nanaimo Athletic Club wouldn't reimburse me. Once they knew about my blog, the Mexican owner, Dave sold the gym, and Jane Moxam, the manager left. I went to Front Runners for the first time this week and I am very surprised by the minimal level of knowledge the salesperson had about his shoes. Il was looking for running shoes with good support (overpronator) and 2 of the shoes he tried to sell me were neutral shoes. They felt uncomfortable when I tried them on so I double-checked ("Are you sure these are for overpronator?" he said "yes". I made a few comments about the fact that my knees caved in when I walked with them but he never bothered to double-check the type of support the shoes offered (which is what I would have done if I had a doubt). I could tell something was off, so I decided to check the shoes out on the website, once back home, and they were neutral shoes. I find this unacceptable in a running store, what can possibly be more important than the shoe for a runner? This was a very young man who was friendly but obviously knew nothing about jogging, the shoes he sold and how to properly analyse someone's gait with a new shoe. Perhaps he should have worked in the clothing section until properly trained. I will not be back. read more

I was sent here from The Running Room because they didn't have any good shoes for me. Running Room got a 5-star review from me as well which you can read if you want more detail. As for Frontrunners: When I walked in the door there were three very fit male employees standing at the counter having a discussion. As an overweigh female, this is generally going to cause instant intimidation - but the moment I walked in the door, one of them stopped what they were talking about, walked over to me and asked me what I needed. I handed him a card Running Room had sent with me to explain what was needed. I figured he'd take the card and start handing me shoes - no! He did his own examination of my feet - size, stance, any foot issues, etc - before he even touched the shoes. And then he came out with about a half dozen boxes to *start* with! We tried on several pairs, and he was very critical of them and how they fit - very determined to find something for me. Another wonderful thing was how enthusiastic he was when I mentioned I was starting C25K - it was very encouraging and again put me very much at ease. We eventually found a shoe that seems like it's really going to do the job for me. He even gave me a few starting tips on running that I hadn't seen elsewhere - running on the outside lane of the track and switching directions can help to avoid injuries or issues down the road, that kind of thing. I was so pleased to have gone there - my shoes cost $140, as opposed to the $40 I paid for my last pair from WalMart, but after a day of walking around town in the new ones, I can already tell that they are a lot higher quality, and the service itself was just stellar. I hope more companies choose to go this route. Oh, and my parents were with me that day - he did such a good job of selling me my shoes that my dad decided to get himself a pair as well! (And also liked his a lot after walking around all day) read more
