There are two things we keep coming back for again and again... The ground chuck is fantastic and priced really well! You can get ten pounds for $2.19/lb. (You may be able to get slightly cheaper at the grocery store, but this is FRESH) The meat is always of great quality; no "surprises." We just bought 10lbs this last Saturday and the burgers we made were amazing. It's a great deal if you have a big BBQ coming up, or just want to stock the freezer. The New York Strips are really, really good. You can buy the whole "strip" and they'll slice it for free; it's about $5.99/lb. Three times last summer we bought a whole strip and had them sliced into 2" thick steaks and they're like butter. The meat is Choice but it's honestly as tender and tasty as Prime. Do it. You won't regret it. Every time we served these steaks our guests RAVED about how tender they were. I've bought the whole prime rib roast twice and thought they were amazing, but my husband swears one time it wasn't that tender (he's crazy). *Overall you need to know how to pick red meat and look for good marbling. They're friendly there and will gladly let you see each piece as you shop.

Found a dozen tables in middle of mega selection of fresh produce every other business be all about the Meats n Fish. We walked around first then came back for a enjoyable lunch. It is an indoor food market in the Eastern Market District at the corner of Gratiot and Russell St. There are 8 different vendors that sell everything from beef, pork, fish, and poultry, to baked goods, cheese and health products. Red Truck Fresh Produce is the first full-time produce store in Gratiot Central Market . Order a couple house made Soups by Krista a true master of Oxtail Soup OMG delicious addiction. Had a sandwich on grilled Onion roll Corned Beef, Pastrami n Slaw with Russian dressing a true winner. Great prices on prepared foods and cold drinks. I had family over-nighting meats from Randy's to me. That was cool while it lasted. I contacted Randy's by phone and was referred to the website. Game changer! I'm happy with the meats I've ordered. My entire package arrived still fresh frozen, packaged to mail across country and on-time. Knock on wood. I have yet to receive any inferior meats and my orders have been 100% correct. My Mom has been craving thick bacon with the rind on and I will order from Randy's. I'll have to let you know about that order next time. Until then I highly recommend Randy's Sausage at the Eastern Market in Detroit. They do good business and have done right by me.

There is a welcome center, but the map on the welcome center is not very helpful. It does give you where area restaurants are located, and some stores, but within the sheds themselves, you really have no idea of who's going to be found where. We wandered through a few, and saw lots of veggie and other produce dealers, flower stands, some bakery, and some crafts/jewelry. Given that we were from out of town, the produce was not of interest to us. However, if we had known where to find all the craft stalls or bakeries that would've been helpful. Luckily, we walked to this area from our condo, and didn't have to deal with the insane parking. It was interesting and a fun way to kill some time.

This is the only place to get such uniquely good corned beef that I have found not just here in Michigan but in the country. Look carefully and you'll see many more restraints carrying it by name.
