Food was OK but could definately tell it was preprepaired by Sysco. The manager refused to honor a gift certificate, claiming it was expired. However, the certificate clearly stated, " No expiration date." I refuse to patronize a business that blantanly deceives its customers. read more

If I could give ZERO STARS I would. When you walk in the waft of a smell, I can't put my finger on was gross. We proceeded to walk in because we were there a couple of years ago and the food was still good, and that was a mistake. My daughter's chicken Caesar salad was so bad, chicken was either old or overcooked she couldn't chew it ( brought it to go for my dog)! There was nothing redeeming about it, not the dressing, lack of croutons, it was just terrible. I ordered the haddock and what i got was not haddock, it tasted like frozen tilapia. I eat a lot of fish and this was not it, to make matters worse I had a whole entire half missing from my fish and they put it out to serve, I asked our waitress what happened to the other half and she said i asked them that too but told me to serve it anyway. She said i will let them know and then they sent another piece about 10 minutes later. It was unflavored and just crap to be frank. My husband's meal was a crab cake sandwich that was less than desirable as well, edible but not flavorful. Now all of these meals were not cheap, and people want to shop local when the quality for the price is just not worth it. I wouldn't recommend this place anymore to anyone. It looks and smells like something Gordon Ramsey would have had on kitchen nightmares. The beer was the only redeeming quality but you can go anywhere for that, and we have a bar in our basement so we will stick to our keg in our basement and pass forever on this place!! read more

I came here to try the wings (which I remember from college 30 years ago) and have dinner with the fam. The wings are still tasty. Excellent sauce. Otherwise the space is tired and outdated. I will never get from here ever again. My mother waited. 15 minutes for my order. To be acknowledged. I spent $85 and it was all disgusting. I had crab dip that was disgusting. I lived in Maryland for two years. I know what real crab dip taste like and that ain't it. That is just absolutely disgusting. The shrimp barely had any old day on it. It did not taste like nothing. The blackened chicken Alfredo was absolutely dry. There is barely any sauce, and I had gotten two orders of that. The food was awful. My husband ordered the Jack Daniel's Chicken- it was cooked then frozen to be reheated and they pored BBQ sauce from a bottle on top. When we finally got it, it was still frozen on the 2nd bite. My son ordered the baby back ribs- old meat also frozen with BBQ sauce dumped on top. I ordered the liver and onions- I could barely cut though the thin small piece of it with a steak knife. We sent it all back. The server was MIA most of the time but the floor manager was nice and comped 2 out of the 3 meals. Now we know why we were one of about 3 tables on a Saturday night. Total bill after comp was about $55.00. 4 motz sticks for 9, 2 NA beers and one martini. read more

Love the location and I do think there was a time this was a really fantastic spot, however...it needs an overhaul. The carpets are filthy, the ceiling fans are caked with dust and the photo near our table hanging on the wall was moldy, likely from the condensation from the AC unit. Let's talk about the food.. the specials were not mentioned to us...and they were not on the menu. The fresh fish came out hard, my mom couldn't cut it with a knife and my son got a dry steak sandwich and had to ask for the au ju. I say.... Made Reservations for 2 at 7:15 on Valentine's Day. We were sat around 7:15-7:20 but that was our last interaction with any staff. No server approached our table at any point during our visit and we finally gave up and left after 30 minutes to try our luck at another restaurant. As we got up to leave the table next to us, who had just received their food, said that they had been at the restaurant for 1 and a half at that point so maybe we dodged a bullet in the end. I understand it was a very busy night and I would be ok with waiting a little longer on a busy night for a good meal, but to sit at a table for 30 minutes and not even be approached at all was too much for us. I've enjoyed my meals here in the past but don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. read more

Ate here this evening and was quite disappointed. First negative sign was the smell of the restaurant when we walked in. Should have left at that point. The restaurant was also uncomfortably warm. Server was average. Food was a major disappointment. Iced tea was not good. How do you mess up sweet tea? Bathrooms were disgusting. Good Food and Service. Two of us had specials that came with a drink and dessert. Food was good but agree the portions were on the small side. The roast beef was tasty and tender and the stuffing was good - would liked to have had a little more. Disappointed in the quesadilla. It was large but needed more fillMing and should have come with shredded lettuce. Mussels were good but almost 1/4th were not open. The ice cream was good and so was the sweet tea. Makes me sad! This historic-looking "train station" on the tracks, nestled by shrubbery, has such potential!! They have a little outdoor bandstand with occasional entertainment. However, It smells and looks dirty, and one dish we had looked like chopped up (ripped up!) frozen chicken patties (and server had an attitude when we sent it back!). Outdoor seating has beat-up furniture with torn plastic tablecloths....for years.... The indoor and outdoor structure, with a variety of quaint rooms, could be so fine with some good tlc, and with some consistency coming from the kitchen. They serve bread with two buttery accompaniments, and the menu is nice. However, we will not return unless some considerable attention is given to to the place. read more

Restroom smelled atrocious, fries were bottom of the bag pieces, wrap allegedly had a grilled chicken tender but was was not visible - poor portion size on the wrap contents, mustard bottle doesn't look like it's ever been wiped. Poor experience - I hope Jay cleans this up because it's definitely gone down hill, not just over the years - but in the last year. Sad to say because FSS was always "the place to go" for a nice meal in a clean environment. Update .. Jay, the owner, was approached at the end of my visit and he clearly didn't want to hear it. He said he's "tired of all the complaints" and belittled me for expressing my concerns ... Twice baked potato was a potato skin used for loaded skins with 2 teaspoons of potato,but worst was a $38 dollar filet.They served us the tail,which is scrap used for tips. Haven't been here in about a year, but I follow them online. It's about 75 miles from where I live. The building itself is fantastic, and I hope it remains a restaurant. Looks like the inside could use a good cleaning, however. I walked in late Sunday afternoon, near 5 pm. No one in dining room, no hostess. Went to the bar, a couple was dining, gave me a strange look. An older man was at the bar, learned later he was a long term employee, who knew the other couple. They all looked at me as if I had 3 heads! This was one of my top 10 favorite restaurants! The bartender was a young fellow. I already knew what I wanted, a margarita and a Ruben. Bartender was quite preoccupied with his cell phone. He would make calls, text, etc. never really even said hello. So I get my drink, then he leaves the bar! A server comes over in a dirty apron, and asks what I want to eat! I ordered, and she asked if I wanted the bread basket. I remember last time, it was a great to receive a basket with crackers, warm bread, and 2 spreads (cheddar cheese and garlic butter). So I said yes. She rolled her eyes, and turned on her heel. I received a basket with 2 cold bread slices, and the spreads. Food and drink were fine. It just surprised me the bartender was too busy to put orders in, and the servers all seemed to be complaining of no customers. There's just SO much of service workers with their heads down on their iPhones, and you hear frequent complaining that they don't want to be working. But I guess that's most places anymore. Show me a place that's different, and I'll be a regular. While I love the venue, it seems like they need to dismiss everyone who works there, and bring back friendly people, and turn off all the darned sports on the tv's! This is a TRAIN restaurant! Maybe play YouTube feeds of train cams (free, btw), or something. I may give them another chance, but frankly I was disappointed in this place, due to the lack of service. read more

Wedding Reception Review: While Front Street Station has a nice banquet space, I sadly cannot say that I would recommend it to another bride due to their poor communication and service. The banquet area is spacious and lined by two old train cars, which add a particularly fun touch for children attending your wedding. There are also already lights and tulle hung from the ceiling, which provides you with a nice atmosphere for a reception. Unfortunately, while this venue has a great space, we were rather disappointed with the service and overall communication. Regarding communication, we found, as our wedding drew nearer, that Front Street's event coordinator seemed a bit disorganized. As we reviewed details previously discussed, she responded as though we were discussing them for the first time. She did not give us a clear floor plan of how tables would be arranged. As a result, set up the day of the wedding was quite different from what we were anticipating. Our food and wine orders were also messed up. We ordered a three-meat buffet and were surprised the day of our wedding to find a buffet with only two meats. Our third meat choice and an additional side were missing. We thought we had ordered a white wine and were surprised to discover it was actually a rosé. We were also told that fountain drinks were included with the price of the buffet. What they neglected to specify is that that was only during the time of dinner. We were quite surprised to find any drink ordered after dinner charged to our bill at $3 a glass. Regarding service, we felt that they did not have enough wait staff serving. At one point, one of our meat selections ran out. The cake cutting took very long and then not all guests got served cake. My mother was going around making sure people had been served. The room was also very warm. They said the AC was on but we couldn't feel much air circulating. I wish I could say that Front Street at least responded to our concerns after the event, however my email expressing our disappointed was completely ignored. When I talked on the phone, they offered no discount for having messed up our buffet and charging for drinks. The "discount" they offered for messing up the buffet was not charging for the kids' meals. Mind you, we only had 11 children in attendance. So in addition to poor communication and service, we can add poor PR to the list. For all these reasons, I would advise brides to consider another venue for their reception. While Front Street Station has cheaper per-guest prices that can be tempting, you do get what you pay for in poor service and communication. read more

First the flies, had to use a menu to kill the flies. Asked waitress if they had a fly swatter, she said no. Our table killed five flies but missed three. Table near us killed four or more. Being Saturday I ordered the Prime Rib which is the only night to get it. Once served I started in the middle of the slice which was medium rare. The medium in part tasted fine, once finished I started on the brown outer part, after a few tastes I realized it was old and rancid. I questioned our waitress and she went back to the kitchen to find out when it was made. She explain it was made on Wednesday which is odd because they only serve it on Saturday. That's when I realized she just made the excuse up, she didn't know. I said it must have been was made last Saturday, leftover, put into the fridge and then served the next Saturday which was today and I got it. At no time did the manager ever come out to say anything or to ask me about it. So she either didn't tell him or he didn't have the balls to talk to the guest in his restaurant. The thing is at least apologize, he didn't because he knew we would still pay the bill. Than I started to look around, dirty bar, stained rugs, stinky men's room, dirty silverware that bent easily. All in all a bad experience. Oh remember the waitress explaining that they don't have fly shatters, well while we were leaving I found two hanging behind the hostess station. Oh and the wait staff are constantly on their phones, bad service and bad for business. read more

A staple in the Susquehanna Valley for an all time eating experience. This has always been our go to place to eat. The food is better than any chain restaurant. My favorite is the "I Remember Pennsy Burger" medium well with fries and coleslaw. You cannot beat that threesome. I love the slaw. We eat at other places but the burgers are better here. They tried to push the reset button this past year and They need to push it one more time to get me coming back. You can't reset something that is already working. They quit sending out discount cards on our birthday and Anniversary. We always used them. The "I remember pennsy burger" was changed to the lunch bar menu. They have something else in its place. This makes you feel like you're doing something illegal by ordering something that's not on the menu. If I come and ask to sit upstairs please never hesitate. We always sit upstairs. They told us no one time so we left and went to SKEETERS. If you don't want people to sit upstairs then don't have an upstairs. Duh! We always tip well and try to make it easier on the waiter by knowing what we want. Now the beers. They need to have a few local IPA's on tap. I suggest the "Overbite" from the "old forge". They do have Dogfish 60 in bottles which is good. Goose island is a good coverall IPA. When you ask if you have any IPA's on tap please say yes. Not "What's an IPA"?. This will always be my favorite place but since the reset button was pushed we haven't gone back much since. Too bad ! The burgers are better than Town Tavern in Lewisburg but town tavern has "Overbite IPA on tap" The construction probably hasn't helped much but experts would say "why should that matter "! If you want a good meal for the price and you don't care about IPA's or sitting upstairs then this is the place to come. read more

Just happened to be passing through Northumberland, trying to avoid RT15 through Lewisburg (would not recommend it). Hungry for lunch around noon, I did a quick yelp location search and found the front street station. Hopefully I am not duplicating prior reviews, but the restaurant is an old railroad depot that was converted to a restaurant a long time ago. This means everything seems very old and a little grimy and dirty. I like how little seems to have been touched with the old station itself, we sat inside the old ticketing booth, complete with the bar windows and views of the rest of the restaurant. the floors are crooked and the doorways are small. Our table was clean but there was no support in the chair I sat in, expecting my bum to fall through to the floor. The food for lunch was very good. When you sit down, the hostess drops off a basket with various wrapped crackers and two scoops of spreadable cheese. And also as you sit down, hostess immediately asks if you'd like a drink. I thought this was great service. The crackers help take the edge of hunger away and most people know what they'd like to drink before opening up the menu. The food was also very good. I had the Bayou Route burger, topped with homemade blue cheese. Very chunky and good. The wife had a Reuben and the corned beef was excellent. I can strongly recommend this place for lunch. Overall, service was a little slower than I liked, but that may have been just me as this was a midpoint of a six hour drive. read more

Just had supper there tonight...supper, 6:30 on a Friday. I've been there several times in the past year, generally had a good experience. Not so good tonight. Called to make a reservation for the outside patio, was told it was booked with NO openings, so we ate inside. When we got there, there were outside tables that were EMPTY. I left that go. Inside was maybe half full at best. They have a new menu to us. My wife liked the turkey sandwich, which is now gone. Now she opted for the Crab cake sandwich, which she said was ok. My son had a cheeseburger, asked for it to be cooked to medium, was well done instead. I had the 3 pulled pork sliders. Tasted good, but were a bit dry and they didn't offer a dipping sauce. Finally, our waitress wasn't on the ball. Service was a little slow (ordering, drinks, checking up on us, refills). When we left, the very same tables, STILL empty and a couple others as well. We had lunch here one Sunday a few weeks ago. The food was good, although the portions were a bit small for the price we paid. Have been to the Front Street Station many times and different times of day/evening. We went this past weekend. The first thing that always bothered me is the screen doors that face the parking lot as you are waking towards the entrance. They are dirty (downright scuzzy) and I didn't like what I saw through the screens. Gee, do I really want to eat here? Not appetizing at all. A cleaning and fresh coat of paint would go a long way. Inside is pretty much the same as its always been. Really needs some cleaning and a coat of paint. Food was ok. Friends were served bad ice tea recently and I thought I would check it out. Also dead/dying plants outside is a clear indicator that they don't care anymore. Used to be a great place. Now, not so sure. read more

Lovely little courtyard snuggled up next to the old train station where I love to meet friends and family for really good food, great service, tasty drinks, and experience an occasional train go through it's paces of moving box cars and flat beds around. My wife and I went here on 10/08/2010 while on an Anniversary overnight trip. Everything on the menu looked great, but we had to limit ourselves to one dinner each. She had the grilled (or blackened, not sure) Mahi-Mahi with avocado & spicy salsa. Both the piece of fish itself and the sauce were great. I had a grilled tuna steak with wasabi and fresh ginger for toppings. It was also excellent. I was afraid it would be overcooked, so i ordered it pretty rare. It was rare! I sent it back to be cooked a little more and it came back perfect. The service by Essie was excellent. My only regret is that I don't live anywhere near this restaurant, so It will be rare that I go there. read more

Unique location, extensive menu. We diverted here from the Country Cupboard in Lewisburg, since they had a 2 hour wait for Easter dinner. So glad we did! We were seated right away and our servers were friendly and personable throughout. Lots of good things to choose from on the menu, both big and small plates and different price options. I had the South West chicken and shrimp. A huge plate of jumbo shrimp, very tender chicken in a flavorful cream sauce over al-dente fettuccine. It came with a sizable and fresh salad. My husband had the Santa Fe taco salad, he said it was the best taco salad he ever had, and it was huge! My father-in-law had the sirloin steak. Cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. The bar special was a white sangria for $7.- which was a bit light on the wine, but tasty and refreshing. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. The only thing I would comment on is the cleanliness, and general state of the restaurant. It could use a good scrubbing. The chairs look dingy and the table covers are worn. A quick wipe down of our table left it, the menus and the chair seats quite wet! The dinnerware was mismatched (and not in a cute, deliberate way). An investment in tableware and tablecloths would do the fine kitchen justice. Will definitely come again as the food and service were great. read more

The setting of this former railroad depot should have been a highlight, but the effect was dampened by dingy tablecloths and chairs whose stained and fraying upholstery had seen better days, as well as the fact that we were actually eating on the station's platform, which had been walled in. (An actual railroad car, which would have been far more interesting to eat in, seems reserved for private events.) I would have preferred it just be a no-frills casual diner setup, rather than trying to look more formal but looking tired instead. The fascinating memorabilia in the form of posters and other decorations on the walls saved the experience from being too uninspiring. The waitstaff was perfectly fine - no complaints there. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the food. The high point was the ice cream. Scallops were overpriced and overcooked. Rotisserie chicken was too salty and its coat of black char made for an unappetizing presentation. Sides were ordinary and reminiscent of an institutional menu. Overall, not a good value. I won't be returning anytime soon, though the place looked like it was popular for groups and gatherings. read more

I went here last week with my daughter and 2 grandchildren. I ordered there taco salad, it was huge. The taco shell was crispy and delicious. I often don't eat the shell but this was so good everyone at the table was eating it. I also liked that used Red beans instead of refrained beans. My daughter had the club salad and loved it. The grandchildren shared a children's spaghetti and meatball they added an extra meatball so they would each have one. We go back again. read more

Shrimp scampi without pasta... First time ever! Not worth the price! Bartender was not nice when brought to her attention. She had an attitude.... I didn't cook it, so don't tell me. Owner family member was apologetic and nice...he listened. Bartender yelled to tables for drink orders......not professional by any stretch of the imagination. Never seen this here before......she even made tables come to the bar to place food orders. I know this couldn't be the way they're trained. Normally a good place...but not tonight. As a former employee, I was proud to work for Front Street and happy that I could push a product as a waiter that I genuinely enjoyed myself. Front Street Station is not a top-of-the-line restaurant, but does not pretend to be. Instead, it is an old reliable source of plain old good food at a reasonable price, and is both a friendly barroom and dining atmosphere, as well as home to a sizable banquet hall that is sometimes used as for concerts and standup comedy. As Central PA restaurants go, Front Street has perhaps the widest variety of cuisine in the area, with excellent choices in pasta, sandwiches, and seafood alike. The appetizers are excellent, and late-night bar customers will be pleased to find the kitchen open until midnight. Front Street also has the best blue cheese dressing in the world, a homemade concoction that goes perfectly with their outstanding wings--order the "Fox" wings, hot sauce with poultry seasoning and bleu cheese! Overall, this is the perfect place for parties big or small, for affordable dining and a menu full of variety, and for breakfast, check out the nearby Jay's, across the bridge in Sunbury, which is open earlier, run by the same management and offers many of the same menu items! read more

I saw quite a few bad reviews for Front Street Station but decided to try it any way. I am glad I did. The food (burgers and Reubens were excellent and the staff was very friendly. Everything was freshly made to include the slaw and potato salad. The fries were nice and crispy and not burnt and soggy. The atmosphere of the old train station is very appealing and the place was clean and fresh smelling. We wanted to eat outside in the nice deck area but the weather did not cooperate. I've only been there once but I'd say the negative reviews may be a bit unfounded. read more
