Plenty of good classics here, but a special nod to the stunning, complex sweetness of the onion soup. It's not often you see a buffet of this quality in Oslo. The white-washed brick walls really give it the French dining feel. We had the fish of the day (halibut), french onion soup, and duck. All was nicely done! The duck especially had a nice caramelized finish to it. Only awkward part (probably our fault) was that we couldn't finish our main course and asked for a box to take the extra with us. Then they didn't serve us our dessert until we asked for it a second time because they thought we were too full (I suppose Norwegians normally order the right amount of food, and maybe it is not normal to save leftovers). We paired dinner with a nice bottle of Barberra as recommended by our waiter. Definitely a nice spot for a special meal.

Sardines are great nutrient rich food, especially for those of you looking for choline. This followed by one of the stars of the evening--white asparagus In a buttery creamy, maybe a bit of light cheese as well...delicious. We ended the night with two fish dishes, the hake--very good and the poached turbot, which was off the charts exceptional. This is a must try when you visit Oslo...try to make a resy. Compliments to the kitchen! Delicious 2course lunch special…read more The BF is popular, recommend reserving a table by the window- away from the open kitchen. Tables are small and the place feels crowded closer to the kitchen on the 1st floor. I personally prefer a quiet atmosphere, dimmer lights and comfortable seating at restaurants, therefore the calamitous and bright room, with a small table, of BFs first floor draws the rating down to a 3. The restaurant has 3 other floors (reserved for parties and dinner) and a great looking dinner and wine menu, so I would recommend dinner over lunch, and dining as a group over 2 ppl.

I also sampled the salmon and cheesy potatoes (a separate side dish not included with the salmon), both of which were tasty. The best thing, however, was the dessert. A chocolate mousse was plated beautifully on a slate board, and served with white chocolate and raspberry. So delicious! American Express is accepted here and free WiFi. Even though Pascal serves savory cafe fare, most of the attention seemed focused on their rainbow macaroon display and their visually arresting desserts. What drew our attention was all their photos of their soft-serve which they call Softis. It looked really creamy and they covered it in colorful macaron crumbs and placed one macaroon on top. It would be our choice which one to select. After walking to the Royal Palace from our hotel near the train station, we felt we could justify splitting one as it was only about 63 NOK or about $6.50 in US dollars (photo: https://bit.ly/3PNxVtl). Quite a treat though we weren't allowed to sit in the cafe due, I believe, to COVID restrictions. Jamie W. wanted to return a week later when we were back in Oslo. Staffed by friendly servers from take-out to the table, all English fluent with a menu to match, Coffee ranges 49-65 NOK including everything from an honest Espresso to a towering Mocha on Ice. Regarded by Relais Dessert International and Guide des Croqueurs de Chocolat, a range of Truffles lining shelves, Viennoserie is a mixed experience including a good Pan au Chocolate but soggy Almond Croissant while Flan a la Vanille consists of a good Crust surrounding soft Custard with evidence of pure Vanilla Beans throughout. More pricey for Entremet, available to go but plated with Crème Anglaise or Fruit Purees on-site, Pascal's Rhubarb Tart is artful in terms of taste as well as texture while the Feuilletine trends a bit sticky in the Caramel layer which makes cutting without a knife something of a mess. Perhaps best known for homemade Softeis, undeniably produced with top quality Cream and smooth as silk, diners may choose to add a number of toppings with Sea Salt Caramel and crumbled Macarons in a variety of flavors the most popular for good reason.

I felt the sauces or accompaniments on my seafood items were too heavy handed, starting with the tuna. The tuna was such a beautiful looking rare loin that could not be tasted through all the apple and citrus topping. It just tasted like an apple salad. The scallops were cooked perfectly as were all the dishes, but could hardly be tasted due to sauces. The lobster bisque was average as was the turbot and desserts. The timing of each presentation was a bit off also as more guests arrived. 24 minutes to get our "main" courses was too long.
