We were in Antwerp for the evening and wanted (needed) an authentic place to have dinner, late on a Saturday night. Not too many places were open or appealing but Yelp led me to this restaurant. I didn't realize it is an Amsterdam brand. We were actually day-tripping from Amsterdam! There is very limited seating inside. We were a group of eight so we had to wait for a group to leave. We cleaned the table ourselves. The bathroom is up the steep stairs in the back. I ordered too much. I tried the Frites in Japan. I was intrigued. It smelled fishy but I thought it was interesting and was glad I tried it. I also tried the Zeeland Shrimp Croquette. The menu doesn't have a description but the cashier was helpful in describing each menu item I asked about. I wanted beer and asked what was on tap. They also have a bottle selection. I chose the Tripel because Belgium and the photo shows what it looked like when it settled before I took the first sip.

Just as yummy as I remember from our last visit to The Hague.......when the Mr & I saw there was a location here in Antwerp, we made a beeline the first afternoon here & have been back every day since Fries are made fresh to order for everyone so they are super crispy on the outside & soft on the inside & piping hot! Love, love, love their Truffle Mayo & they have other sauces available like Bearnaise, Jalapeño & Classic They have fries with sauce (our go-to) but they also offer options with bbq, kimchee, cheese & jalapeño, parm & tomato.....the list goes on These fries are as good as it gets!

Average-tasting high-end fries, mostly just for the 'gram. I didn't think there's such a thing as a boutique for fries, but damn, it is fancy. Partly because it is Michelin-star chef Sergio Herman's frites shop chain, which I didn't find out until later on. I had one of their Seasonal Specials with truffle mayo, Mimoulette cheese, roasted Piemonte hazelnuts, and greens. Sounds like a mouth-watering combo, doesn't it? If I wasn't already half-full from the waffles I'd just had a few doors down, I think I would enjoy this more as an afternoon snack. But I had a train to catch afterwards and underestimated how heavy this was, so this became my pre-brunch snack, and boy, did it not go well. The couldn't taste much of the truffle mayo flavoring and I wasn't exactly a fan of the hazelnuts sprinkled all over. The fries were overcooked but I think I was just overwhelmed by how heavy it was that I quickly stopped enjoying it. €6.50 for their special menu fries, plus an additional €0.50 for each sauce you want. They're, by far, the most expensive fries I've paid for in Belgium. Then again, it is a Sergio Herman establishment. The cool thing is that they have an abundance of sauces you can choose from and pour yourself. Nice to splurge on frites if you want to experience something different, but too fancy for my liking.

This place combines all of my favorite things and I am a huge fan. The concept is simple - frites with anything you like. Want to keep it simple, they have that. Want to top them with meat and cheese they have that too. Even better? They have a wall of sauces that you can enjoy for dipping. I kept it simple. I ordered them plain and then tried all the sauces. I really enjoyed the garlic aioli! Add a nice glass of wine and you have yourself the perfect afternoon snack. Go here. Thank me later!

Good fries and a very cool place to get them. We got the basic one with 2 different sauces, try spicy one was a bomb! The portion is decent and gets you full, we even had to take some with us for later. The place is usually crowded but you always find 1-2 spots on the standing tables outside.

Ordered the classic beef stem on a Saturday morning. The fries is a bit over fried to me though the sauce of the beef and taste of fresh black been sprouts are perfect balance of the savory. Worth to try. People are coming for the fame of the chef.. not sure there are regular customer.

The first time we went here, we were pleasantly surprised! The mixture of spices and sauces together with the fries was marvellous! Sadly it got less and less each time we went! It's still delicious but the portions are getting smaller while the price stays the same or even goes up! The fries itself aren't that pricy but the extras... definitely give this place a shot when in Antwerp but I do prefer an authentic fries shop!

I get it. Elevated street food can often times come off as pretentious and not worth the value. First let's discuss the basics. If your haven't had fries in Belgium yet, I'm taking, proper Belgian double fried fries, don't eat here for your first fries experience. I think to really appreciate these fries you need to have had the OG Belgian frites. Is it worth the value? Well, it is 7€+ for fries with toppings. The amount of fries is no where near the amount you'd get from a local fry spot for 3€, or even less. So if you're expecting a heap of fries, this isn't the place. When it comes to the actual fry, I think these fries are up there with the best Belgian fries I've had. They're that crunchy outside, soft inside that makes Belgian fries great. I went with the Old Mimolette & Truffle. That's a grated Mimolette cheese with truffle mayonnaise, cabbage and hazelnuts. The wife got the Frites in Japan--miso mayonnaise, yuzu, mizuna salad bonito flakes and grated lemon and horseradish. Over the top? Probably. Tasty? Utterly. The truffle mayonnaise was easily the best sauce I've ever dipped a fried potato in. Everything about both these orders of fries was amazing. However, I don't think that if I had tried these fries first, as opposed to just your typical friterie, I would have got the hype and might have been a bit confused. These aren't for everyone. Yes, they do serve just "normal" fries and mayonnaise, but really the draw here is the toppings. The wife and I cannot wait to go back.

Before I ordered, not so crowded.

It's hidden down a quiet courtyard, right in the middle of the city but completely away from the noise and bustle. Totally one of those "if you know, you know" kind of places. The atmosphere here is just magical -- rustic, romantic, and old-fashioned in the best way. Even though we were seated outside in chilly weather, it still felt cozy and inviting. You could tell this was one of those restaurants that lives and breathes its history. Now, the food -- We ordered the duck breast with red porto jus and gratin dauphinois, and the beef stew. The gratin was so good -- creamy, cheesy, and perfectly comforting. The duck, though, was a bit of a letdown -- quite tough and hard to chew, which was disappointing because the sauce was lovely. The beef stew, on the other hand, came out piping hot (just how I like it!) and was hearty and flavorful, though a tad on the sweet side for my taste. Still, it was delicious overall. Service was great -- friendly, attentive, and never hovering. Everything felt relaxed and unpretentious. Our bill came to just under $100 USD, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality, setting, and experience. If you're wandering around Antwerp and want to escape the crowds while enjoying a cozy, candlelit meal in a spot full of old-world charm, this is the place to go.

Although I'm becoming a regular here, there are things I really dislike (and they're the reason I didn't give 4 stars). I don't know what the deal is with service in this city, but a lot of the times I find myself in nice, chill places with horrible service. In this particular case, there are a couple members of the staff (not all of them) who have the wrong attitude: Not making eye contact, responding to your questions in a mean way, or even a freaking smile. People often forget it's their job. And no matter what you do for a living, do it right. No wonder why "tipping" is not a thing in Antwerp. But still, I'll be a regular in this place. I can't let this ruin my experience anymore.
