Billie... Billie. I showed up and y'all showed out. This quaint bar in the cut of Antwerp definitely houses traditional authentic Belgian dishes and beer. I'm not beer drinker but I did stop by to try their beef stew also known as Vlaams Stoofvlees. Wheeeeeew baby. Their gravy sauce for the stew is rich and thick. You literally can pick out the herbs when you eat. There's nothing fake about this place. That meal honestly can be shared amongst two people. It was an interesting twist for me to eat a chicory salad. Never have I ever. Yet, it was earthy and tasty. Great health benefits too. One thing you'll notice in Belgium is there Mayo and ketchup is real not processed. You can literally taste the difference. If you're ever in Antwerp for even a couple of hours, make it your business to stop by and treat yourself to good food and beer. read more

Billie's was such a cool spot! They had a great beer selection and our server had great recommendations. We tried a few different beers and snacked on their fries, which were enough for two people to share. It offered a really cozy vibe with fantastic service. It was a super quaint and authentic-feeling Belgium bar experience. We initially sat outside but quickly moved inside as it was cold/windy. Love this place. A little out of the way off the Groenplaats. Does that make it a hidden gem? I say yes. Great food. I had the Flemish beef stew and the pork cheek stew. Both were thick and super meaty in a dark gravy. The fries were quite good with both. Amazing assortment of beers. I tried all the local Antwerp bottles, plus a few on tap. Such a variety of flavors. The staff were quite knowledgeable about their beers as well, and friendly once I broke the ice. They were probably my favorite part of my visits, and that's saying something. They stay open quite late as well! I 100% recommend. I went two nights in a row, and it would have been three times, but they are closed on Tuesdays. If I'm back in Antwerp, I'll definitely eat here. read more

What an amazing pub! Super grateful for the recommendation I received to check out Billie's for a good selection of beer and a good time. It did not fall short of the expectation. Its a pretty small space, both downstairs and upstairs. The place was pretty packed on a Friday night, and most tables were reserved. But most patrons seemed very willing to share space at their table they were not using. The vibe here is awesome. Dimly lit, and intimate. The beer list is fantastic, as is the food. We had almost decided to go somewhere else to eat, but Im glad we stayed here for the food. The fish and chips were to die for. A surprise! We weren't sure what to expect, but we did see good ratings for this bar/restaurant. The food menu was not huge but the food was amazing and served in a very large servings! If you're in Belgium and want to drink amazing Belgian beer in a fantastic atmosphere without the judgment that usually comes with being a tourist, go to Billie's. My brother and I had 24 hours to spend in Antwerp and this was arguably the highlight of our time there. We arrived at the bar knowing a bit about the history involving Billie the dog, and our curiosity was piqued. When we walked in, both the patio and the bar were full but not crowded or stuffy. We were served immediately by a bartender who spoke great English and was not judging us for speaking English. She gave us great recommendations from their enormous list of beers. We even got to see the infamous Billie keeping charge of the bar! As we were consuming our delicious beverages we watched the World Cup in great camaraderie with the other patrons of the bar. It was one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip. Although this city is packed to the brim with buildings and businesses older than life itself, this relatively new bar is an absolute must-visit if you find yourself in Antwerp as a tourist looking to get a taste (literally) of Belgian culture. read more

The beer bar I wanted to go to was mysteriously closed, so one Yelp search later and I was at Billie's Bier Kafetaria instead. To say it was a consolation prize would be a disservice to Billie's, because the place is AWESOME. I sat at the bar and was handed a giant beer menu. Seriously, the thing must've been like 20 pages thick. They have 11 beer taps, but I went with some more exotic (and expensive) beers. All of the bartenders were super nice (cute too). Mine recommended the Rio Reserva 2012, and it was damn near life-changing. The space is also well adorned with beer paraphernalia, including books and magazines. There are also some random games and flash cards (one with optical illusions). There's limited seating upstairs as well. That's where the bathrooms are too (they have actual paper towels!). They also serve food, but a little on the pricier end. But decent variety of hearty dishes. read more

This place won me over from the second we walked in. "Singing in the rain" was playing as we approached the bar where the extra nice barkeep recommended us beers and let us try them before ordering. The beer selection is great! They have an exciting food menu which we are yet to try and a magic ambience. Perfect for a date, beers with friends, dinner or whatever you want. One of the reasons I wanted to go to Belgium was for beer. Obviously once you get there you can go to the different breweries and various bars, but I didn't know what to order. We walked in and sat at a high top, the waitress came by and asked us what we wanted to drink. The best part is, I had no idea. I told her what I liked and had 4 different delicious beers. They had a ton of different beers and options that it is overwhelming if you don't really know what you like. My fiance loves sour beers and she kept saying the entire time that she found her favorite beer...obviously we can't find this anywhere in the US. We didn't try any of the food, but from the free smells, was probably delicious. If you are in Antwerp and aren't sure which bar to go too, go here! Huge selection of beer. The waiters were super kind and described the beers to us. I loved my chicken in pastry dish. Sort of like a chicken pot pie, but 100X better. We LOVED Billies while we were in Antwerp. So much so that we ended up going there every night. Of course the beer everywhere in Belgium is amazing, but Billie's had a great selection of taps you won't find elsewhere. In addition their food was great. We had the pork cheeks stew and the chicken stew and both were fantastic. Wait staff was awesome and had great suggestions. And of course Billie was there (the dog) to inspect everyone. Fantastic place in every possible way! It's rare while traveling for me to go back to a place a second time, as I like to experience as many different places as possible. I made it a point to come back to Billie's before leaving Antwerp. Billie's was a hit from the moment I walked in the door. I love the charm of very old places, and Billie's has it in abundance. There are mostly locals here, which is what I prefer when traveling to get a feel for how people live. Billie is actually the owner's dog, whom I met playing outside with some of the patrons on the way in. He's a riot! He has free run of the place, and will come over to say hi if he likes you :) Everyone was super friendly, from the owner to the staff to the patrons. Billie's is very popular, and most of the tables on both levels were taken each time I came. My first night I was lucky enough to get one of the few seats at the bar. The food was terrific, as was a specialty liquor of Belgium: Jenever. My next night in, the place was completely packed, and the owner asked a table of 2 if I could join them. They happily said yes, and we had hours of fantastic conversation. I had planned on a quick drink or 2, but the people were so friendly, the food so good, and the atmosphere so terrific, I stayed until almost closing time. In my opinion, this is one of the must-see places while you are in Antwerp. I can't recommend it highly enough. read more

Such a great place! We had some really nice Belgian beers and great food here while visiting Antwerpen. We started with some Bitterballen (delicious) and Kasteel Rouge. Then i had the small 200 g filé with herb butter and fries while my wife had the Stooverij/Carbonnade Flammande wich is a Belgian beef stew made with beer for you who doesnt know. We rinsed it down with some nice Duvel beers. My filé was very good though a little overcooked from my ordered medium rare. The Mrs beef stew was also very good though i might have had some that was better. Very friendly and staff and the quirky little dog who named the bar that strolls around the premises makes this a fun stop in Antwerpen. Oh yeah and the food and beers was not bad either of course. read more

Very nice place in the cosy center of Antwerp. The four of us ordered tortellini, seabarse risotto, chili con carne and pork cheeks in Beer sauce. The risotto was a little bit too hard (personal preference) and the tortellini could have been served warmer but overall the tastes were all delicious. The ambiance, food quality and beer selection were excellent and the sever was extremely knowledgeable and spoke excellent English, but the overall experience was somewhat disappointing. Dined on a Monday evening with three coworkers on a business trip. We knew of the establishment's sterling reputation and arrived right at opening to be sure to be seated promptly. The beer selection was a bit overwhelming for two of my companions who are not beer snobs, but the server was very helpful. I ordered one of the specials, a smoked salmon and shrimp pasta, and a side of chips. It was pretty adorable that our server felt the need to explain to me that "chips" were actually "fries" and that they were served with mayo. Yes dear, not all Americans are completely culturally oblivious and also, I've seen Pulp Fiction. About 30 times. The pasta was excellent, just the right amount of salty paired with the smoky flavor of the salmon, and the portion was huge, too big to finish, in fact. It paired excellently with the source IPA I had chosen. Unfortunately I had exactly two sips of beer left when my entree arrived, and herein lies the disappointment. I'm well aware that coming from Chicago, my expectations as to service are not the norm worldwide. Frankly, the laissez-faire attitude of European service can be a welcome change from the sometimes intrusive nature of US waiters. But seriously, if my glass is almost empty when you bring my food, please ask if I'd like another. I mean, this is a beer bar after all and I'd like to drink some beer. I don't want to judge too harshly, maybe the staff was short handed or it was uncommonly busy for a Monday, but I would have liked more than one beer. read more

What a great place if want to enjoy a brown cafe. Small and cozy. Near the touristy area but not a tourist trap. You will get to mingle with locals while drinkings quaffs of beer. Loads of beer to choose from. They have a rotating tap that you will not find easily at other locations such Nitro style ales. Great Belgian food too that pares perfectly with beer. Great changing craft beer selection! Good value for the drafts as well. As this place really focuses on beer, I prefer it over Gollem. Love also the fact that the drafts are updated on Untappd, so you can always see what's new! I do think the bottled beer selection is a bit pricey and heavily skewed to barrel aged stouts and porters. Also this is not the best location for trying the Belgian beers, but those are everywhere to be found in Antwerp. read more

This was my favourite place in Antwerp. Small, cozy and charming. Did not feel like a tourist trap like so many of the other places I went. They had a fantastic selection of local and import beers, both on tap and in bottle. Our server, Linda, was super sweet and really knew her beers. Food was fantastic as well.
