Terrible. They tell you one flat fee price on the phone but charge you more once at your destination. Enfuriating.

Same experience as other Yelpers. UNRELIABLE. I contacted them via their website 4 days before I…read moreneeded them to see if I could schedule a pick up for today at 6 am. I never got a response and I should have taken that as a clue. I called them last night and booked the 6 a.m. pick up that way. I was directed to send my address via text, which I did, and I got a text back confirming the pick up. So then I purchased the Yelp deal online for the $75 airport ride for $67, And then 6 a.m. this morning, I'm sitting by the window, with my suitcase next to me, waiting, watching. Nothing. 6:05. Nothing. 6:10. Nothing. I call the number. No one picks up. I send a text message and I get back the response "Sending a car now." Then I get a phone call from some other guy saying that he's driving from Berkeley and will pick me up in 10 minutes. 6:30 am a car finally shows up. This is an entirely different guy (who actually frightened me a couple of times during the ride with his reckless driving). I made my flight but probably wouldn't have if I had to check in bags. And guess what? I find out only when I get to the airport that 510 Airport Taxi had called ANOTHER taxi service to pick me up. So when I go to pay with the Yelp voucher, the driver refuses to take it because he's not with 510 Airport Taxi. Now I'm just trying to get my Yelp voucher refunded. I had to pay that guy, essentially paying for this awful taxi ride twice and now I'm getting texts from 510 Airport Taxi asking if I want to use the voucher for a ride from airport on my return trip (NO!) and that I have to contact Yelp for the refund. This is not a taxi service with a dispatcher. This is a guy who owns a car and a cell phone. BAD NEWS all around!

These guys stood me up after agreeing to pick me up at 4:45am for the airport. I stood outside…read morewaiting and calling. They did not show up, they did not answer their phone, they did not respond to my text. UNRELIABLE. Luckily, I was able to get another cab service to dispatch within 5 minutes so I was able to make it to my flight on time.

Thanks to the driver I encountered last night from Royal Cab Co. for reminding me of why I don't…read moretake cabs here in the Bay Area. Especially the East Bay. You might say that being a New Yorker makes me a taxi-taking expert. I've been all kinds of places with all kinds of taxi drivers at all sorts of hours. For some reason, since moving to Berkeley a few years ago I've been anti-cab. It's partly because I have other modes of safe and reliable transportation (a bicycle, a car, a pair of legs), but mostly because of the attitude. We were just a few steps from our car parked in front of Cesar's in the Gourmet Ghetto, when a taxi pulled up and double-parked. The driver hopped out of his car, and ran up to the entrance of Chez Panisse. When the cab driver returned with his customers in tow, my boyfriend approached him, politely pointing out that he shouldn't have double-parked. Instead of simply admitting his fault, the cab driver started off on his insult spree by saying "Commercial vehicles are allowed to double-park." That's a new one. At least he didn't directly insult us, right? "You must be bad drivers if you can't get out of that space!" Oh no, you didn't! While I pride myself on my parallel parking skills (honed by parking in lower Manhattan), there was no way we were getting out of that space given the lack of room the cab driver left us. As the cab driver grew more and more defensive, my boyfriend kept his cool, and stuck to pointing out the obvious. It was when the cab driver said something about how we "must have had too much to drink" despite the fact that we were stone-cold sober that I reached my breaking point and hopped out of the passenger seat. We called the number on the cab once the cab driver remembered he had customers in his back seat and drove off. The operator was probably a little confused when we asked them without any introduction about commercial vehicles double-parking, but at least they knew the law better than the driver did. This would definitely be zero stars if it were possible.
