I went in for a couple of small fillings and the dentist saw my partial and said I could use an upgrade so I go to the office manager to get FACTS, details, figures. Office checks insurance and tells me I've got​ great insurance, that I'm covered. Fast forward, I've picked up my new partial and all is well. Until I get a bill. I call and the office Mgr tells me that this was left to be paid. I called the insurance company and was told that if the dental office had checked, they would have been told that I had a partial made 3 years earlier and that they would not cover another for another 2 years. I know it's not our responsibility to make sure we are covered but it will possibly save you from a NIGHTMARE...... so go ahead, do their job if you need to. The dentist, Dr. Rokita and his assistants were fabulous. Too bad his front office can't keep up. I'm praying for them.

When I came home to Florida, none of my usual dentists wanted my case. My GP recommended I see Dr Mehta. Now, I live in St Pete, so Palm Harbor is a bit far, but Dr Mehta worked with me for a month on a series of temporaries before casting a softer gold crown, which I've now had for two years. So my loyalty was certainly earned, but honestly the hygienists here also just do a great job for regular checkups and cleanings. Even without bleaching my teeth always look much whiter after a cleaning here than from anywhere else. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a highly skilled and trustworthy dental practice.

A nurse, Lisa, from the senior center on Spyglass suggested Dr Christensen for my dad (he's 86) and I'm so glad she did. He was very professional and friendly. He didn't try to wow him with all the new tech in dental services, he just examined his teeth and asked what the issue was. He fixed my dad's tooth there on the spot and didn't rush through it. He kept asking my dad if he was satisfied and when my dad said no Dr Christensen would just keep making minor adjustments until my dad was happy with the results. The entire staff is friendly and overall it was just a great experience. It is such a relief to finally find a dentist we can trust and won't try to sell extra services just to make a buck. Dr Christensen is my dad's new dentist for the foreseeable future!

They told me my insurance doesn't pay for filling. I call my insurance co. to verify my coverage and was told that I am covered for filling with a $25. copayment. I called VIP for an explanation as to why they told me my insurance would not pay for the filling. I am told I did not get a filling (which I requested), but instead I got what is called a "build up". So my request for extraction if the tooth couldn't be filled was ignored and they did what they wanted to do and bill me for the complete procedure. If I am paying for a service, I expect that exact service. I am very angry.

When I insisted on using local anesthetic, like we all received as kids, the dentist said no it's to much for her to deal with the kids possibly moving?!?! The new dentist(s) may be worthy of five stars also but I don't think it's fair that they "inherit" Dr. Ortiz's ratings. They should be required to start from scratch. I'll start by saying I don't tend to frequent anything other than privately owned and operated dental offices. Big corporations usually rotate dentists in and out so you can never develop a relationship with them. I knew Dr. Ortiz had sold his practice but was still working at Smile Design. However, They did not forewarn me prior to my last appointment approximately 6 months ago that Dr. Ortiz was no longer there and I'd be seeing someone new. The whole staff with the exception of 1 person is new. Consistency is what I absolutely LOVED about Center for Smiles. The staff never changed, they all knew you by name, and the atmosphere was like a family. The new staff couldn't even add up my total charge correctly. The receipt showed $86 but she charged my FSA card $88 & it took weeks to resolve getting that $2 put back (because you know an FSA don't play...they need to verify down to the last penny!) Ugh, I hate when a provider who was absolutely perfect either relocates or retires. Anyone have a dentist they love that you want to recommend??
