Old Bank House - €2 :)

If you are at all physically challenged(walker, wheelchair, rollator) don't even consider this…read morelocation. There are stairs leading into the building, narrow hallways, an elevator that barely holds a rollator and two people. But that's just the start of our experience so far. Even though the room we have is somewhat accessible the shower would not be for anyone with mobility issues. The shower appears to be recently renovated as does the rest of the bathroom the entrance to the shower is small and the floor is slippery!!! Not what you want for anyone. The issues continue, the mattress is old and has a foam topper on it. Needs a new mattress that provides some support. You only get about 12 tv channels and of that only about two have anything that's remotely interesting. We luckily came back to our room at 6pm only to find two servers from the cafe below locking the front door. No one told us the door gets locked and we were never told how to get in. Need anything after the receptionist has left at 5? You need to call to the sister hotel to have one of their staff help you. There is no a/c, not a big problem as you are located near the water so there would be cooling over the evening hours. But the windows are heavy and you need blocks of wood to hold them open. Again no one told us until we called to find this out. Again we had to call to the sister hotel to have someone bring something to prop the windows open. They do provide a Dyson fan but without the windows open it just blows around hot air. There's a large Ardmore in the room for hanging clothes, etc. That's great except there are no handles on it. Want to open it? You need to reach up to the top of the door to do that. Out of luck if you are short. Internet? Almost non-existent. Connections keep dropping, can't connect to websites, not even sure I'll finish this post before I lose the connection again. Think you get the idea. This establishment may work for some but there is no way we can recommend it and this is only our first night of a two night stay.

It turned…read moreout there was a bad storm and severe flooding from cork to Kinsale and all buses were canceled. I called the hotel to tell them I would not be able to arrive that night. I had arranged this stay through booking.com. When I arrived the following day at the hotel, they told me they would not be able to refund what I had paid for the first night and to contactbooking.com Which I did and booking.com said they would appeal to the manager of the hotel and ask for my money back. The hotel claimed they never received a call from me canceling the first night and that they were unable to refund me. I am very angry with this decision, and would caution anyone who plans to stay there, that they will not even, for an act of God Refund your money!

We honeymooned in Ireland last October. We purchased a travel package and drove around the south…read morewest coast for a week, stopping at various towns along the way. One of our favorite stops was in Kinsale at The Old Presbytery. It was little nervewracking actually arriving there since it involved driving along Kinsale's RIDICULOUSLY narrow roads (see my photo of the front of their building - that is a two lane road!). But once we arrived we were extremely pleased with this unique and charming B&B. The owners were welcoming and wonderful, providing us with a hand drawn map of the town with recommendations of restaurants to try and things to do. They knew it was our honeymoon, and our bed had rose petals in the shape of a heart (see my photos) when we arrived. The room was large, with a separate sitting area and a small balcony overlooking their parking lot and the town. Our bathroom had one of those old fashioned, lion claw style bath tubs in addition to a shower. I, of course, had to make use of the tub! We did and saw a lot of things while in Ireland, but one of our best memories of the entire trip was buying cheap wine at the local Supervalue and drinking it on our room's balcony while watching the sun set. There was just something so relaxing and life affirming about that moment, smelling the peat smoke from nearby chimneys, listening to sea birds singing back and forth overhead. And of course, a review of a B&B can't be complete without rating the breakfast. This was also top notch. I had scrambled eggs made with local cheese which was so delicious. I posted a photo of the hubby's breakfast which included salmon in the shape of a rose (I know there is an actual name for this but I forget what it is). They also had this cereal & raisin soaked yogurt concoction that I've never had anywhere else, but sticks out in my mind to this day as being so uniquely delicious. If you're planning a stop in Kinsale, I highly recommend The Old Presbytery.

The breakfast that is included in your stay is 5-star worthy. Everything is made to order and homemade scones are ready for you as you wait for your breakfast. I had an egg sandwich and my wife had a seafood omelette. Rick Steves boasts about the Old Presbytery and he was right on with his recommendation. The Old Presbytery is within walking distance of shops, pubs, and the harbor. We would definitely stay there again.
