There is an Indian village half way the hill with some tee pees and a grinding hole. Nice collection of baskets and beads. Nice size gift shop. It's owned and operated by Mono people. I'll definitely go back again. Learn the TRUE history of this land. It's truly truly sad what happened to the Native people of this land. They had been living here peacefully n harmoniously with nature and their water was polluted , fish been killed , animals been killed and they were dislocated from their land because of lust and greed of gold miners and Spanish conquers and colonization. Their history is not even taught in school system and you never hear about it in medias.

While taking a tour you will find many gems, mineral specimens, crystalline gold, mining artifacts and a mine tunnel you may walk through. This collection has been in Mariposa since 1983. Prior to that, San Francisco was its home for over 100 years. We spent most of the morning & afternoon exploring this spectacular place. Very informative about each specimen and the history surrounding it. The two rangers hosting this site are full of information and colorful stories. A must see! My only caveat is they don't allow anyone to take photographs inside for security reasons. I sure would have loved a close up picture or two... There are many fossils and replica of fossils. You guide yourself on a tour, they give you a booklet to use to guide yourself. Each station has information on the fossils, history,etc. There is an outdoor area with replicas of the homes of the native Yokuts tribe that was originally in the area. There is also an outdoor pond with plaques in front of each different plant that surrounds the pond. It was a really cool learning experience. You can pay a bit extra for fossil digging. There are 19 fossils to dig up, that can take about an hour. We spent about 3 hours there. They also have a cool little gifts shop area.

You can expect to see the following: Wawona covered bridge, various large metal equipment items used in this time period, covered carriage house, horse barns, horse corrals, Chris Jorgensen Studio, George Anderson Cabin, Tom Hodgdon Cabin, Yosemite transportation Company office (Wells Fargo), Bridget Degnan's Bakery, Acting Superintendent's Office, Powder House (Jail), Blacksmith Shop, Cavalry Office and Ranger patrol cabin. On the day we visited they also had horses at the stable (about 20!!!) and we got to see them being fed (they were very friendly). Sadly, notes posted on the building stated that they were closed because of incidents of people stealing the stuff that was inside. So none of the buildings could be entered. You should also visit the Chinese Laundry Building (located down the road from the rest of the historical buildings) where you can learn about the contribution of Chinese immigrants in the development of the area. I definitely learned a lot through the exhibits!! Definitely check this place out if you're heading into (or exiting) Yosemite on the Interstate 41 route!!

The gardens were built in an unexpected park of Fresno and these is a lot of history behind them. Parking was somewhat difficult but once you enter, the staff were very kind, organized, and positive. Our tour guide Raul was super sweet and provided a lot of history regarding the gardens and the family who built them. Raul had my 3 young boys engaged and interested. He answered all my questions and was so open to conversation. You could tell Raul was proud to be there telling all of us how the Gardens came to be. The Gardens are very interesting. I've never seen anything quite like these. The smell of all the citrus trees combine with the natural cooling underground was amazing and made the tour comfortable. If you have any time i do recommend visiting these secret gardens.
