Due to a new strong interest in organically grown foods, I recently surveyed the price and mass of all organic foods in Carbondale. I surveyed Fresh Foods along with, Town square market, The Neighborhood Co-op Grocery, Schnooks, and Wallmart.
Excluding Wallmart which has a pitiful selection and Schnooks which does better than expected due to the efforts of the produce manager (but only shares 3 organic items with the local organic food stores), I was able to expand the field of shared products to 10 common items. It may not sound like much but because of the multitude of sub groups for each fruit and vegitibal, 10 is a huge number and large enough to provide a solid representation of prices throughout the store.
I found that when added together and divided by ten, the average cost of produce at Fresh Foods comes to $1.74. Town square market is $3.04. The Neighborhood Co-op Grocery is $3.49.
The average mass among the produce at each store requires a more comprehensive explanation but it would be irrelivant as the outcome was relatively identical (most likely due to shared distributers). I took no visual record of any fruits and vegitibals because I noticed right away all of the food was beautiful and likely the same.
One could argue experience or presentation all day but the fact of the matter is Fresh Fresh provides an identical product to that of the other stores at 49.8 percent the cost of its major competitor. Even if you spend $100 to become an owner at the co-opp and take advantage of all of its benefits, you would save more at Fresh Foods. So for those who want to eat healthy and spend the least amount possibal, fresh foods is the clear choice. read more
