Amanda is awesome…read more Seriously, it was painless, professional and really, actually, enjoyable. The shop is clean, private and perfect for a first timer like me. She took my directions and requests wonderfully and really didn't make me feel like that 'lame and dorky' newbie (which I really am :) ) what I wanted was in her style which is my number one suggestion: make sure your artist art suits you. I ended up with her but 'fate' but she really was the perfect fit. Also easy to talk too after Ill add it was affordable too.

Disappointing Experience - Faded Tattoo in Days…read more My friend and I came in to get matching tattoos on the sides of our hands--an area we knew could be tricky, but we expected a bit more care and guidance. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. The artist offered little support or direction during the design process and didn't explain the level of fading we might expect clearly. We were asked to sign the hand waivers after the tattoo was completed. We were told it would fade over time, but within just 2-3 days, one tattoo had nearly vanished and the other was missing large chunks. When we brought this to the studio's attention, the manager cited their "hand tattoo policy" but ultimately refused to stand by their work. We were told we could pay again to get it touched up. Instead of offering a resolution or at least a courtesy touch-up, we were told we'd have to pay again to fix tattoos that didn't even last a week. I understand that hand tattoos can be tricky, but this was poorly handled. Lack of support, lack of follow-through, and a lack of accountability. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone--especially if you're hoping for both quality work and respectful customer service. After speaking and showing other artists the work, they agreed that it was poorly done and not deep Enough. Save your money and stay away!!!!

(ETA: Just looked up Dragon's Lair, and discovered they have been closed for over a year now. So much for traditions.) But tragedy and a desire for healing through needles and beauty, brought me here. This was a different experience from my other pieces. My other tattoos are small, black and grey and were done the day I walked in to the parlor (after over a year of tossing the idea back and forth). But in YYC, a decent artist is in extreme demand, so you book an appointment the way you book one for a doctor. Depending on what you want done, and how you want it done, wait times can be anywhere from weeks to months. At IC, you can put down either a cash deposit to secure your time or a PayPal deposit. The deposit covers the first hour and is taken off your final bill. When I brought in my reference photos and idea sketch, the guy booking my appointment suggested I make an appointment with Niki. Having seen some of her gorgeous work when I was perusing their website, I agreed readily. Niki was a blast to talk to, is extremely talented and did her best to make sure my 2 hour sitting was as pleasant as it could possibly be. The memorial piece on my left forearm came out even better than I imagined (bigger too, hehe), and I was stoked from start to finish. As for the shop itself, it's incredibly clean, spacious and about to get even more so, now that the only-sometimes-open Mexican restaurant that once resided below them is no longer there. The atmosphere is relaxed, you can tell all the artists get along with each other (at least the ones that were there that evening!) and that they take great pride in what they do and where they work. Dean, the guy who took my appointment, was pleasant to talk to, even though he was probably anxious to get home. I also love that they have late hours on certain days, because I wouldn't have been able to go on a week day in the middle of normal business hours. Thank you, Niki, for the beautiful work you did. I couldn't ask for a better reminder of my darling.

I will start by saying this is a review about both the shop and the owner/artist Dan Cameron…read more Getting permanent art done should take time and research to make sure the artist suits what you are envisioning. After looking at a whole lot of portfolios on line I contacted Mr. Cameron over a year ago while he was at a different shop. He was friendly and professional and took an expected deposit at that time to start drafting a design. A couple months later due to finances I had to put my plan on hold and he told me to let him know in the future when I was good to go. About 13 months later I was in a position to move forward and when I contacted him again he said to stop over at his new shop to get thing moving again. (I wasn't 100% sure due to the time delay on my part but there were no issues at all). We met up again and reviewed my ideas, he worked up an amazing draft and we started in. His shop is very clean and cool with a great vibe. I had 3 sessions total for my half sleeve, and he even recommended changing a date in the middle due to my planned vacation (I was scheduled to leave 3 days after the sitting) so the color would set properly and the work would turn out like we wanted. After the final session he booked me in for a follow up to make sure it was all great and it was. While like I said at the start a person needs to make sure that the tattoo artist fits the art you want, if Dan Cameron's portfolio looks like it will I would highly recommend him. I know Ill go back when I'm ready for my next one.

The owner and awesome tattoo artist Dan Cameron has created an awesome space for his artists and clients to come in and enjoy. There are lots of TV screens and there's always a movie on to help clients focus on something/feel distracted. The atmosphere is cozy, too. I've been tattooed by both Sydney Dyer and Dan Cameron and I would recommend this place for anyone. It's clean and quiet, yet fun and inviting.

She isn't just a tattoo artist either, she is an accredited painter and artist that has had her own art gallery showings and has sold art, which really reflects in her work. The depth and colour in which she did my tattoo as well as poppies in my tattoo are simply amazing. I spent 10 hours in her chair and she was such a pleasure to chat with as well. I loved her so much that I got my husband an arm piece with her for his 35th bday gift. With a few emails back and forth she got the exact design down that he wanted and made it so unique that he couldn't be happier. I will absolutely be back to see Dominique for my next tattoo, without question. Unfortunately I cannot speak about the other artists there but I have seen their drawings and some of their work and they are just as amazing as Dominique. I know one artist i think his name is Joe..? had to stop taking bookings for the year when we were there in August because he was fully booked until Jan 1st 2013 so needless to say hes a great artists as well.
