My Husband and I came in for our consult with Ryan on June 28th. At which time we booked our appointments together for July 19th as it was our wedding anniversary. During our consult, it was decided that Ryan would do my tattoo first as it would only take an hour or so, whereas my husband's could take at least 3. We showed up on the 19th and found out Ryan had switched our appointments. He decided to do my husbands first and then mine, which I was fine with, until.... Ryan made a comment about not seeing my tattoo appointment and not having the picture we provided him with, which was odd because everything was sent in one email. I sat in your shop for over an hour during which time I listened to a conversation between your artists who were discussing your 48 hr cancellation policy. Then a 1/4 of the way through my husband's tattoo I get told I may not even get my tattoo that day. He said we could reschedule and that he would even come in on his day off! We were supposed to be getting our tattoos together on our anniversary! I was pissed and left the shop! I sat in my car alone in your parking lot for another 3.5 hrs waiting for my husband (hoping I'd get my tattoo) on my ONLY day off in 6 days, on my wedding anniversary for an appointment we had booked 3 weeks prior! Then I find out Ryan cancelled my appointment but kept the appointment after me!! Who does that? That right there is a shitty business and shitty customer service!!! He literally cancelled my appointment the day of, on the spot (we drove in from Airdrie), and he had the nerve to take his next appointment!!! I am curious as to why his next appointment was more IMPORTANT then the one I had, had scheduled for 3 weeks? At no point did Ryan check to see if I was mad, nor did he attempt to reschedule my appointment. The response I received from the shop owner after I sent a message was just as bad!!! If I could give this shop a -10 I would!!!! They ruined what was supposed to be a happy and exciting day for my husband and I! We will NOT be back anytime in the future, nor will we be recommending your shop to anyone we know! read more

Poor customer service. Walked in to inquire about a tattoo. Was not acknowledge at all. Another customer walked in about 5 minutes after us and was Immediately helped out. After the customer who arrived after us left we stood there for another 5-10 minutes and noticed the girl went and started playing with her nails out of our view. Safe to say I would not recommend Gypsy Rose to anyone. read more

When I first heard about Gypsy Rose, I heard about it because it was opening up right by my house and instantly became interested in finding out more about the business. The shop is was bright and clean and had some nice work that the artist had done hanging on their walls. I have gotten 2 facial piercings here and both times were excellent. I had gotten a lip piercing once before at a different store and was very unsatisfied with how it turned out. So I knew when I wanted to get it another lip piercing, that I was gonna make sure it was exactly where I wanted it. I did not have an appointment when I showed up but did not have to wait more than ten minutes to be seen. Nina did piercing (low labret) and made sure I was pleased with the positioning. Several weeks later after my piercing had healed, I went back their with a new piece of jewellery and Nina changed it right away with no charge! Since I had so a good experience, I went back for my second piercing (nose). Again, when I needed my jewellery changed, they were more than happy to help. Although I haven't gotten a tattoo at this location, I would defiantly consider it, as they were very nice people and their work they displayed looked wonderful. read more

I got my back piece redone here with Dominique. She made my crappy old spotty tattoo into a magnificent, beautiful piece of art that I am proud to show. She isn't just a tattoo artist either, she is an accredited painter and artist that has had her own art gallery showings and has sold art, which really reflects in her work. The depth and colour in which she did my tattoo as well as poppies in my tattoo are simply amazing. I spent 10 hours in her chair and she was such a pleasure to chat with as well. I loved her so much that I got my husband an arm piece with her for his 35th bday gift. With a few emails back and forth she got the exact design down that he wanted and made it so unique that he couldn't be happier. I will absolutely be back to see Dominique for my next tattoo, without question. Unfortunately I cannot speak about the other artists there but I have seen their drawings and some of their work and they are just as amazing as Dominique. I know one artist i think his name is Joe..? had to stop taking bookings for the year when we were there in August because he was fully booked until Jan 1st 2013 so needless to say hes a great artists as well. Their "booking system" aka, writing in a book is such a mess. They scheduled my consult for the wrong day and when I went in told me I had missed my appointment. Luckily I had an email as backup confirming the correct day. Then after waiting 3 months for my appointment my design draft was poor quality, generic and looked like it had been thrown together in 10 mins (for a 3/4 arm sleeve). Half of it wasn't even finished and was nowhere near the reference material I had provided. Couple this with the fact that the design work was super late getting to me, I cancelled my appointment and had to forfeit my deposit. Shop is full of attitude as is typical of most shops in yyc; do yourself a favor and take your business to Atticus Tattoos. read more

Never have I felt so comfortable at a tattoo or piercing parlour than I did at the Gypsy Rose. I rarely write reviews, but my experience was so positive I felt the need to let anyone looking to get a piercing or piece done that this is the place to go. The shop itself is clean and cozy, the atmosphere professional enough to make you feel confident that they know their stuff (which they do) and casual enough that you instantly feel welcome. It feels like these guys are a great big family, and they take good care of you. I went with my friend to get a piercing (tragus), and it was easy and efficient - not to mention the best price in the city! We had a lovely chat with Dom, who was absolutely wonderful. My friend was very nervous, but he talked her through it and she ended up very happy! I was from way out of town, but the experience made me want to go back and get my tattoo done there! Went in to get my conch piercing done. The piercer put in a huge/chunky piece of jewelry and said that's the smallest they can do. It was huge! I went to my normal piecer to see if she could change it, and she tells me that the piercing isn't even done properly... Not only did I have to re-purchase jewelry but I had to get me ear re-pierced! I went there to get a septum piercing and I had a great time. Lucas was so nice and made me feel comfortable and in safe hands. He was super chill and went at whatever pace was best for me. It was very quick and compared to videos I've seen online, I feel like I had a better experience. He kept asking if I was okay, afterwards I did feel a bit dizzy but he sat me down until I was okay. Overall, I was very happy with the experience and I recommend that people should go here for piercings. Though I cannot speak for what tattoos are like at this place, I do think this place deserves a higher rating. read more

I would discourage anyone looking to get a new tattoo not to use this company the more I dig into it the more I hear stories of people losing their deposits due to counter staff not writing stuff down properly. There is no communication on artwork status there's no communication on appointments they just take your deposit so be warned. There are several better tattoo shops in Calgary please do not support ones that steal from people. read more

I've been here twice. First time my nose stud fell out and they had to re-Pierce my nose. I only had to pay for the new stud. Second time I pierced my tragus, it was quick and almost painless. The piercer was really nice and my piercing is healing nicely. The shop is nice and clean, the artist are friendly. Did I mention that I walked in on both occasions and they were able to accommodate me. I will definitely return for future work. read more

Took my 10-year old daughter to have her ears pierced there, and Sal, the piercer, did a fabulous job. He was also very very VERY patient with us (had my friend and her daughter there too for the same thing...two concerned moms and two nervous pre-teens). And although we got there at the end of the day and caused him to stay open beyond working hours, in no way did he rush the job or make us feel bad for taking up his time. Thank you, Sal, for everything. The one and only thing I wished had been different is the location of the piercing area. It was a bit cramped for 5 people (admittedly, we shouldn't have ALL been there), and it seemed to be in a high-traffic area. I think a bit more room, a bit more privacy, and perhaps even a separate room that looks sterilized and sanitary would be more...reassuring. However, Sal's instruments and method were all very clean and sanitary, so no worries there. This comment is more for the look of the thing. And the friend I brought along is an OR nurse, and the first thing she yelled out when she walked in (her very first time at a body piercing and tattoo place) was "Ooooh! it smells so nice and clean here!" Do not hesitate to get your piercings there. read more

I went to Gypsy Rose for a spontaneous piercing trip because it was the only shop that was open on a Sunday. I decided to get my nape pierced and my friend got her nose pierced. The staff was very friendly however, I was surprised by the lack of cleanliness. My friend was able to handle all of the jewelry with her bare hands before her piercing - I have never seen this before in any other shop. I thought this was somewhat odd. Before I got my nape pierced, the piercer took a regular industrial barbell and bent it with pliers (which I was unaware of). I was wondering why my nape had never healed. It was always swollen and painful until I eventually went to another tattoo shop to get an opinion on whether it was rejecting or not. The moment she looked at it she said it needed to come out ASAP. When she took it out we noticed that all along the barbell there were scratches and gauges where it was sitting under my skin. There was no way I was able to clean that under my skin, so bacteria just sat and lived in there the whole 6 months it was there. Since then I have gotten my nape re-pierced at another shop and haven't had any problems with it. I've had it for over a year now. This is just my personal experience, but it was an unpleasant one. I have had other friends who have gotten tattoos and piercings there and they turned out just fine! read more

Got the worlds most simple tattoo and even that Dominique couldn't handle~! I'm not out to get her or have a personal vendetta but this was my very first tattoo and i am so dissapointed. It looks like somebody who just picked up a tattoo gun for the first time attempted this!! Her line work sucks, there are areas she even missed!!! Overall the tattoo is messy and the lines are so uneven, going to a different place for a complete overhaul I can't believe i paid 140$ for something i could have done at home myself with even a sewing needle and paint. COMPLETE DISGRACE!!!! read more

Absolutely incredible experience! We explained our situation and they got us in within 48 hours with a fantastic artist. Thanks to Sal for the great recommendation! We had a minor with us and they went through all of the proper procedures and I felt like everything was done correctly. As for the tattoo... amazing! I never thought that such a simple, small tattoo would make me so happy. Wes, our artist, was prepared, super friendly, and did a really excellent job. Thank you so much Gypsy Rose!
