The takeout line went fairly fast. We also ordered a black cherry drink, slaw and pickles. The smoked meat sandwich with extremely tender, juicy and tasty. It was a decent serving of meat so my husband and I ordered one sandwich. Make sure you don't miss this spot if you're visiting Canada..

Jewish deli sammies. Arrive hungry bc it's a good size…read moresammie. +. Ambiance is cramped tourist packed Montreal's Jewish deli like 2nd ave and Katz's. Everything is a bit smaller here ( DR, menu etc). The line snaked around for about 30 minutes depending on the size of your party. ++. Food-wise, theirs' are smoked meats not corned and more limited menu than the American delis. I had the smoked meat with double mustard on light rye with a cherry soda. They don't offer bread choices here. It was warm and came out quickly. It was a tad dry even though I didn't order it "lean" so I added a pickle. You can order it fat if you want it moist. I wouldn't order it lean here. The pickle was very ripe and added some moisture. My sandwich was delicious and hit the spot! ++. Service was fast and easy. The deli service style is very much in line with busy traditional delis with high turns found in NYC and Chicago. Helps if you know what you want when you sit down and order right away. Otherwise, you'll have to flag down the servers or wait 'til they come around again. +. Price was quite reasonable for the sandwich quality and quantity. My sammie, pickle, soda, tax and tips came to $33 CAD. =. Parking is paid street except during this Labor Day weekend, Saint Laurent was closed to vehicles. Walking and public transportation are best options. Overall,Schwartz's is a fine tuned Jewish deli serving select menu at a reasonable price. I would def visit again :) MY RATINGS - -- Inhumane -- Disgusted - Don't bother = Missed the Mark + Good ++ Better +++ EDIBLE...WHERE have you been all my LiFe!

The cafe menu is limited mostly to sandwiches, quiches, salads, and breakfast pastries. I got the Jambon Bio: ham, cheddar, mesclun greens and dijon on a baguette. The amount of ham was really pitiful, I think 2 slices. The greens were boring, only lettuce. We did like the dijon mustard. The baguette was overwhelming for the amount of filling and not the tastiest. Rather disappointing and I thought pretty expensive at $17 Canadian. But it came with soup and salad (no way to order just the sandwich). We liked the soup though, a pureed squash with apple, assertively peppered. Salad? Lol no it was 3 cucumber slices each with a 1/2 cherry tomato on top! In retrospect I should have got one of the hot sandwiches, such as the Croque Monsieur, which looked good on another diner's plate. I liked the selection of soft drinks, and found an interesting fruity soda from a local company. While waiting for our food (order at the counter and they deliver it to the table) and after finishing we perused the grocery. An amazing assortment of gourmet items. I bought two hot sauces that I can't wait to try (didn't get the one made from ants though!) and some tinned smoked fish. Many of the items seemed insanely expensive though. The beer selection was truly impressive; wish I liked beer. Then on to the greenhouse. An amazing variety of plants of all kinds: cactus, ferns, carnivorous, much more. We just looked because we couldn't take them back to the USA, but some were hard to resist.

Open on weekdays, the takeout only counter is open from 11 until they sell out (~2pm), Rosalie will great you with the biggest smile, a genuine "Bonjour", and instantly, you are welcomed into her home like a family member or long time friend! As whimsical as this may appear, lies a powerful soul, and experienced lady entrepreneur who did her full professional baking schooling, worked in a flour mill to better understand her products, as well as worked in an artisanal bakery to learn the trade, and now bakes her own bread but also supplies them to Marie-Fleur St-Pierre's famous restaurants: Tapeo and Mesón!
