I was driving over it the other day and it reminds me of going to Old Sac as a teenager, just hanging out with friends and walking across the bridge. It goes over the Sacramento River and just celebrated its 90th anniversary a few months ago. It is a nice little walk if you ever get a chance to do it and quintessentially Sacramento.

She wasn't there as an official docent, but as an employee of the state park system. System. She asked if we had any questions, and then answered everything. We wanted to know with very complete answers and told us a lot of information about the place. It was very informative. If you're in Sacramento, I recommend visiting the capitol. It's great to see where our state government really happens.

If we had more time, we would have taken one of the public tours, which usually last 45 minutes to an hour. We went up to the 4th floor thinking we might be able to listen in on the State Assembly session, but because of time constraints we had to leave and made our way down through the 3rd floor, 2nd floor, lobby, and basement. There's a lot to see, including the 1st floor Rotunda and county exhibits, the 2nd floor Senate and Assembly Chambers plus historic Governor's offices, and the 3rd floor portraits. There's definitely more to explore, and I'd like to revisit the California State Capitol Museum on another Sacramento day trip.

Today there was no actors or really any docents there to answer questions you might have or want more information on. Except the one older lady in the house were John Sutter office was. She wasn't helpful at all just really rude. Mostly to my 3 year old daughter. I know you are all probably thinking well I bet your kids were being crazy. But no ! my daughter walked into the building 2-3 second before I could because I had to carry her little sister up the stairs. As im walking in she rudely speaks to daughter about needing an adult to be here and shouldn't be by herself while im literally standing behind her. Next my daughter wanted to look out the window to see outside I told her no she can't sit and look outside and the lady comes over and said again in a stern voice You may not sit on that! Like yeah we know I just told her. She gave zero information about the office or even the building. She just wanted to make sure my daughter felt uncomfortable the entire time. If my kid was truly running around inside and climbing on the widows while I just played on my phone sure come over and tell me to get my kid under control but she wasn't . Maybe have your docents not be rude old ladies and actually be knowledgeable. Also you only get a small doorway to look into each room so you'll be waiting awhile to get a glimpse of a dark empty room with not a lot of information lol. The state Indian museum is next door and they were super nice even gave out stickers ! Inside was air condition. They had a table your kids could color on.

Having grown up in Sacramento, I have seen downtown Sacramento and especially K Street go through…read moreits ups and down throughout the years. There was a time long ago when K Street was bustling with "Life". People shopping, eating out at restaurants, going to movie theaters and even cruising down K Street on cruise night. My fondest memories of K Street was walking by the" Fox Theater" and smelling the freshly made Carmel popcorn. Sooo good ! Both sides of the entrance of the theater were glass enclosures where you can see employees making delicious red/caramel candied apples, cotton candy, and red rope licorice. I also remember seeing spot lights light up the night skies during special movies screenings ! Saturday mornings were very special here at the "FOX Theater". Who needed money ! We were able to watch a movie and cartoons with just 5 Pepsi bottle caps. Luckily for me we lived right around the corner from a small Mexican grocery store. The owners were kind enough to let me rummage through their bottle caps. What wonderful memories ! During Kevin Johnson mayor tenure here in Sacramento, revitalization of the downtown area was a priority! With the Golden One Center & Downtown Commons being built , new business are finally coming back to downtown and especially K Street. Just think a few years ago people couldn't move away fast enough from downtown. Now It's "Cool"too live here. How "ironic"! Great things are coming ! Thanks for reading !

Once you live in a city long enough, you start developing a deeper appreciation for those places…read moreyou may take for granted but are so essential to the city's personality. One of those places is K Street, which thanks to its location in the very heart of downtown, has been the victim of constant change, for better or worse. It used to be a place lined with cars and teeming with families and restaurants and the famous "Fox Theater." Then it met a decline and attracted a lot of crime with a lot of shuttered businesses and became the blight of the city. Gradually, beginning in the mid '00's, it had a return to form, with more businesses opening and a wonderful revitalization. That took a hit with the great recession but it came back again in a big way when Golden 1 arena was built. Even though we are in the time of COVID, I'm confident that K will continue to grow and thrive in the decade ahead. Some of the most notable spots are the historic church, some of the older buildings and some of the modern businesses, like the Empress, Pizza Rock and the new popular Nash & Proper. The visual landmark we all enjoy is actually the Crest Theater, which I pray will survive these tough times. Whatever the case, it's a great place to stroll. While flawed, it's still one of the most interesting streets in our city!

February 11, 2026, A gloomy afternoon at capital park. We went out to Capital Park around 12:30pm…read moretoday and it was misty, but not raining. By 12:50pm the rain was starting to pick up and we were almost running for cover. I had my raincoat on, but my husband only had his leather coat on. He was warm, but getting wet. He wished he had brough his umbrella. The park is very lush this time of year with a few puddles here and there on the paths. We though we were on the capital look, but realized that the loop is referring to the outer edge of the park, we started on the loop and then wove through the park, so I'm going to just review the park today and post pictures from the interior park. I really like the cactus garden. It's a little scary at times as the prickles are so large and my husband is worried if he walks by too close they will attack him. So, we kept our distance and skipped the close up shots. Today some of the cactus was in bloom which was pretty spectacular. I loved their orange color and brightness. They really popped. They do have a warning that says keep out of the Cactus garden so you are forewarned to stay away so you don't get poked. I took a picture of a cool tree. The top must have been cut at one time because now there is only a branch that goes over the path. It's fun to read all the tree tags and see what kind of trees growing in the park. They have two types of paths in the park, some that are paved and some that are possibly finely crushed rock. Both paths were a little puddly today, but not too back that you couldn't walk around the puddles. There are a few benches in the park. May of the ones under the trees are occupied by the unhoused population. The ones out in the open are usually vacant and used by local workers to enjoy some fresh air and have lunch outside. Come enjoy Capital Park. I suggest you take public transit here if you are visiting on a weekday as the parking is slim on the streets, but there are aways garages available. If you come on the weekends, there is much more parking on the streets. So, you have no excuse as to not enjoying this beautiful park.

I knew from having worked in government before that the building is actually offices for The state of California but what I learned while I was there is that the building was completed in the late 1990s and was designed to resemble ancient Mesopotamian steeped pyramid temples. I stopped by with my pup just to check it out and walk around but parking was much tighter than I expected. There is a parking garage but I didn't want to pay just to check out the building for 5 minutes. There was a couple picnicking on the front lawn of the building with their dog off leash and the security guard walked out immediately which made me nervous about overstaying my welcome or accidentally parking somewhere that I shouldn't. The building was very cool to see in person and looks nice. I took a cute picture of my pup in front of it and went on with my day. If you like unusual buildings or local landmarks, this is fairly easy. Quick stop if you're in the area.

I like different styles of architecture so I was impressed and took some photos but you don't really need any more than 10 minutes here. There's Tree House Cafe across the street which was nice with a large outside patio and had it's own resident cat. There is a pathway alongside the river behind the building so you can make this a nice loop with the I Street Bridge.

Old trees, charm, all the houses nearby are different - my Grandma - a fairly well off city girl from Europe approved - and I can see why. Coming to the USA with nothing but two suitcases and 3 kids she quickly worked her way up to the Land Park neighborhood. A stunning house with 4 car garage, metal roof and pool. She loved old Sacramento and looked down on village or town or junky places. She too good for that. Piggy was too good for that. The romantic river once had the pirate boat shows - pig pig loved them. The old bridge - I love driving over that. Come here stretch your legs - now is the perfect time before it heats up for the summer.

Visited December 17th and 18th…read more There is so much to see and do at the old waterfront in Sacramento! You have museums...trains..boat cruises..all in walking distance to this wholesome place! They have 5 star restaurants such as Vs Paradise and The Firehouse plus more casual places like Joe's Crab Shack. It is kiddo friendly with old time candy shops as well! If you want to slow down the pace and relax come here! I stay at the Delta King when visiting and walk around at night feeling totally safe ( well lit ). Enjoy the 60 foot Christmas tree and the Polar Express Train rides!
