I am a fan of the Kentucky Blood Center's drives and Middletown location, and I was excited when I…read morefound they were opening this new location a bit closer to me. I enjoy giving blood as a small way to give back, and they facilitate doing that! First of all, you can super easily book appointments online; I love that feature. When you arrive for an appointment, you are generally seen right away. Since the facility is brand new, all of the rooms, beds, etc. are super nice. The staff is nice as well! I always enjoy chatting with them, and they work to make sure your donation process as smooth as possible. I don't do this for the rewards, but they often have giveaways, drawings, etc. I got a pin for my first gallon of blood donated with them at my last visit. They have a good canteen/snack area to make sure you leave safely. I really can't say enough good things when it comes to KBC and blood donation.

Definitely a 5 star experience for donating blood or platelets. Professional, friendly and…read moreefficient staff willing to share information, and they never seem to be in a hurry. A large space in a strip mall, the interview rooms are really set up well. The snack and donation spaces are clean and well lit, definitely set up for donors. For platelet donations they only use one arm (no two arm option), which works out really well because it allows you to use the remote for your personal television. COVID precautions are taken very seriously,: masks, social distancing, extra cleaning, and hand sanitizer. Check in and processing was quick and painless. Probably the best needle stick I ever had when donating blood or platelets. Parking is easy and there's lots of it so I can't imagine it would ever be a problem. And there are several good restaurants close by if you want more than a few snacks after your donation. First in, first out!

So this is my first time writing a review, but I am so fed up with Talecris on Preston Highway…read more Talecris is so unprofessional and just dirty. I will never return to that place again! They're very unorganized and files for donors are always going missing in that place. The workers are just plain rude. I'm not going to say all of the workers are rude because there are some that try to make the best out of the horrible situation that they're in, but most are just horrible and most likely will not excel in any field involving customer service. I honestly wish I could give this place a negative rating. Update: So Talecris has actually reached out to me about my bad experience. Talecris has definitely changed my opinion about their center. It seems like the clinic may have just been having a bad day when I decided I go. This recent time that I went to the clinic I had a much better experience and I would definitely recommend anyone to go to the clinic and not give up on it so easily. Be advised that there are still longer than average wait times.

The wait times can be long, but several employees have made the comment that they are short staffed, so the wait is understandable and unfortunate. The center appeared clean, and the staff were congenial and professional. No delays and no surprises; I was out in quick time. Conversation was helpful and friendly. The final results were relayed soon, later after my visit. I was happy to be welcomed in a new town for me, to again donate safely and in a nice facility. It is important if going to this specific location, note the correct Address is 14002 Shelbyville Rd,. which changed in the last 3 months in Nov 2025. 14002.

And…read moregiven that we are still in the midst of COVID-19, I was happy to see some of the added precautions that have been put in place. Like on my first visit, I was instructed to fill out the questionnaire via my phone. I then emailed the results to myself, which included a QR code that the staff scans to input my answers. Different this time, though, was the fact that I waited in the vestibule for staff to take my temperature before entering. And all staff wore masks, and people who donate are told to wear masks as well. After checking in, I was brought to a small office to go over a few other questions and have my finger pricked. I still wish they had a bigger room to do this in, that would still allow social distancing, but at least all involved wear masks. And then I was directed to a donation chair and gave blood. The staff are friendly and professional. And this is an easy way to give back in a meaningful way. I will be back in two months to do it again.

Make sure you have everything you need before your first donation. You have to have your ID, proof…read moreof address, and your social security card. If you don't have the social security card, your social can be verified at the front desk. If you don't have your proof of address you can donate your first time without it, but you have to bring it your second time. Make sure you eat a big meal before you come because your first visit as a new donor takes 2.5-3 hours. You want something on your stomach while donating. The process goes like this: You sign in and have your identity verified, you watch a new donor video on the donation process, you're then taken to a private booth where your photo is taken and your profile is created and pay card is issued, you answer a bunch of health questions on the computer in the booth, you have your vital signs and weight taken in the booth, then you have a quick physical with a nurse in an office, then you go donate which takes 45 min to an hour. There can be A LOT OF WAITING in between each part of the process so be prepared. If you think you are waiting too long in between each part don't just sit there, SAY SOMETHING. Employees get VERY busy with regular donors while you are going through the new donor process. You can donate twice a week in a rolling seven day period. You have to wait at least 24 hours in between the two donations. The donor fees are always changing every few months so it's best to just call to ask what they are. It's worth it because you are literally helping save a life and getting compensated to do it.

I've given blood for many, many years. While Covid made a dent in my Blood Donation calendar, I'm…read moreback in full swing now. Located in a huge-ass plaza off of Hubbards Lane, this donation location is pretty easy to get to. The storefront is pretty unassuming and if you weren't looking for it you wouldn't know it's there. It's easy to book your donation appointment on the app or online. I'm a platelet donor (which takes about two hours), so if you're looking to do platelets you should absolutely check the app or website for available times. Checking into your appointment on the app (or online) will save you loads of time when you arrive. I've never had to wait to get started, I just walk in the door, check in, and then they take you to what I'm suddenly going to call an Evaluation Room. There a lab tech (?) will ask a few questions and take a few tests (oxygen, blood pressure, etc) to make sure you're good to go. This whole process take about 10 minutes. The donation area is broken down into the types of donations that are taken. The Platelets area is a about 5 beds along a wall, each with a smart television and headphones to help pass the time. Once the techs get you situated and comfortable *ouch*, here come the needles! Blood goes out one arm, some kind of magic happens in the machine, and then your blood (minus the platelets) is returned in the other arm. This process takes roughly 90 minutes to two hours. While you're donating there's a Roku television that you can tune into a favorite move to television show to keep you occupied. The staff here is very friendly, helpful, and they 100% know what they're doing. They check back frequently during your donation process to see how you're doing and if there's anything you need. When you're done, there are some snacks and drinks to help restore what you just gave away. Making a donation at this location of the American Red Cross is a rewarding experience. From the staff to the comfy tables to the quickness of getting started, this is a great place to save a life.

Made an appointment online via the American Red Cross web site…read more The website showed 3 open slots to donate today (3-18-23) I chose the 11:15 am time, complteted the questionnaire & was given the appointment. I was sent a confirmation email w/ a QR code also. I arrived at the N. Hubbards Ln. location about 20 minutes early only to find that my name wasn't on the schedule. I showed the staff my confirmation e-mail & QR code. They said they don't take same day appointments. At first the excuse was that they had 3 people at lunch, I said I'd wait. Then the excuse was they don't have the staff. I asked to speak to the manager. I was met by "Melanie" who regurgitated the same excuse about staff at lunch, then being understaffed & no same day appointments although their own website list open, available slots to donate. I ask her to work me in. She became surly, aggitated and began to try to patronize me. The Red Cross is always begging for people to donate, what gives. Do not waste your time and gas to donate here, these people don't care and the fact that you want to donate means that they might have to work harder. The staff here is not very professional and is a poor reflection on what should be a good experience.

I'm not going back there and plan on finding a different one to go to.......

Every time I've went in there all they can seem to do is act annoyed and they cuss very frequently. They even go to the extent of talking down to other donors when they leave. Twice now, my donation has been rushed by the staff, and because of that both of my arms feel like what are permanently in pain. My last donation was very non-pleasurable and somewhat traumatic. She didn't tape the hose to my arm well enough, which caused it to spin around while in my arm , and when it was going fine, she moved my arm for no reason, causing the needle to go further in my arm and raise. I almost passed out from the pain and in the middle of my donation, the needle had to be taken out and put into my other arm so that my donation could be completed. I would also note that on the same day that this happened I saw two other people walking out of the center with two different bandages, one on each arm. Unfortunately I will not be returning
