Who knew that small town Lawrence had a great restaurant. I came to Lawrence this past weekend for their traditional Labor Day Ox Roast festival. I had no desire to eat the carnival food. When I asked at the beer tent where to eat, everyone pointed to the Freedom Bar & Grill. I'm so glad I went. I sat at the bar and was very impressed with how clean it was. Most tables were full and so were the seats at the bar. The bartender was very nice. I noticed they had my favorite Vanilla Crown Royal, which always makes me happy when a bar stocks this. After pursuing their 2 menus - one is American fare and the other is the Mexican fare - I opted for the tamales. Boy, they were delicious. I also heard their hamburgers and pizza are very good. There is a dining section on the west side (behind the wall) of the bar, but I didn't peak in to check it out. They also have open mic nights once a month. It is a very nice clean place. The food was good. They are VERY stingy with the drinks - barely a shot worth in a tall glass - yet they are not shy about charging you good for the small amount. But where any restaurant will lose my rating is serving my food in a plastic basket with wax paper. The baskets are rarely washed if ever - no matter where you go. read more

Came in at 850 on a Thursday to find the kitchen was closed, which was a bummer, until the lovely bartender said they would make us a pizza. We got the house special and a couple of tall two hearted Ales. The pizza was full of fresh, ample ingredients on a thin and crispy crust. If I could change one thing, it would be to have some hot sauce on hand that wasn't Tapatio. I love that one, but not for pizza. In all, I'll be back. read more

We have heard excellent things about this bar and it's food. We finally visited for lunch. Super friendly when we arrived. We were promptly greeted at our booth and explained it was our first time. The waitress explained they have an American and Mexican menus. I asked what she recommended and she gave us many options (basically everything ). We ordered a patty melt, breakfast burger, and a basket of fries. The meal arrive fast and hot! Portions are outstanding and food very tasty. Atmosphere: Went on a Friday around 1pm on memorial day weekend. We were seated immediately and there was 3 or 4 other tables that were eating within the establishment. Everything was clean and there was country music playing, but not too loud as our table of 3 were able to talk at a normal volume. Service: Only one server staffed at this time but she was attentive to all the tables here. Took our drink and food orders quickly and the food was brought out within 15-20 minutes. Appetizers came out first. No complaints. Food. The deep fried mushrooms were the juiciest I've tasted. Pickle fries were not too overpowering in the pickle taste. Not a huge fan of pickles but still enjoyed them. Sweet potato fries were average. Garden salad with grilled chicken was delicious as the chicken was extremely tender and busted with lots of flavor. For the main dishes, wings and pizza were ordered. The pizza was a thin crust and toppings were very flavorful. The Pterodactyl wings were a little bigger than buffalo wild wings size and the flavors were vibrant. We tried the Stinging Honey Garlic and the Sweet Rahul. Both recommended to try. Freedom rose was a new item that they had just introduced to the menu that day. Very creamy and the females of my group thought it was delicious. The Cogar breeze was on the more refreshing side, although containing a lot of alcohol, was still a pleasure to drink as it was around 70 degrees outside. Overall very good experience. I don't usually post reviews but after a long hard day on the job I thought I'd have a cold one and I enjoyed myself so much after finding this hidden gem. I ordered a coors light. The bartender asked me if I'd like a large or small. I said I'll take a large. As I ordered I looked down the bar and seen one of Lawrence's finest and said to myself maybe I should have ordered a small . I sat there messing around with my phone and noticed a Asian lady sitting there. I asked her are you Chinese. She said yes ( I was really surprised to see a Asian lady there in Lawrence) She asked me and you. I said Chinese Japanese and Hawaiian. We talked alittle and told her that I had a similar bar business in San Francisco. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with her. Their bacon steak cheese guacamole pico de galo jalapeño burrito. It was amazing. This hidden gem makes my traveling much more pleasurable. read more

This place has pretty decent food and pretty decent beer the beer is cold I don't know if the food is made from scratch though because I've seen the Swanson delivery driver in back a few times the few times that I did go they did not take debit card / and certain credit cards so we had to go get cash which was an inconvenient. Just always bring cash whenever you go to this place to avoid having them bring back your card and say we don't accept this. read more

Visited this place three times and I just can't wait for my next visit! With delicious food and friendly staff, every visit to freedom bar and grill has always been pleasurable. Food wise, I highly, highly recommend their wings. I am not a wing/drumstick person as I dislike getting my fingers dirty. But every time I have their wings, I always go all in with both my hands, without hesitation! They are the juiciest and most flavorful wings I've ever had. I tried the turkey wrap during my previous visit in early August. Very filling and fresh/light. Perfect for a great summer afternoon. Don't forget to end the meal with their dippin dots. This was quite possibly one of my worst dining experiences of 2018. I came here with my girlfriend because we were just kinda desperate, and we thought anything would do. Boy, were we wrong. To start, the waitress was just okay, at least at first she was. She was friendly, but not really attentive. We ordered fries for an appetizer, hoping that they would be special since they were marketed as beer battered fries. In reality, they were just regular, disappointing fries. Not only that, but we had to wait an inordinate amount of time for an appetizer. At least twenty minutes. I would understand if they were swamped and if they couldn't get the food out because of that, but we were one of three tables that evening that were eating. That was the highlight of the meal though. Back to the waitress. She didn't seem to have a grasp on what her customers had ordered because we were delivered the wrong food. That was pretty shocking, again because we were one of three tables at the bar that evening. We had her take the food away though, and she was able to deliver it to the correct table. In retrospect we should have kept their food, because it couldn't have been as bad as the dishes we were served. So after eating our appetizer, we were finally delivered the correct food. At this point, we are here for roughly forty minutes. We are pretty hungry. I ordered the ruben, and man was it sad. It was about 80% sauerkraut, 15% thousand island dressing, and 5% meat. That wasn't as insulting as the onion rings though. Below is photographic evidence of the disgusting onion rings. Granted, some of them were cooked properly, but the bigger ones still had flour that hadn't been properly deep fried. It was revolting biting into a powdery and rubbery onion. My girlfriend ordered the tacos, and you can just see how appetizing it looks for yourself. To start, she was only given three shells when it was said to have four. The portion size was too big to just have three shells, and it was probably too big even if she had been given four. After dinner, she told me she wasn't feeling well, and from what I tasted of her food, it didn't surprise me. This was just a very sad and very disgusting dining experience. After struggling to get a working pen from the not-so-attentive-waitress to sign our bill, we walked away from the place feeling worse than when we came in. Stopped in with my wife, around noon on a Monday and we were the only customers there. Wanted to try several difference things and planned on taking home a lot. First I will say it took forever to get our food and like I said, we were the only ones there. I ordered a patty melt that unfortunately had no flavor and was made on burnt marble bread instead of rye. We also ordered the seasoned fries which they forgot to bring out with the rest of the food. When they did arrive our waitress said they gave us a double order for our inconvenience. I'm pretty sure they made a smaller new order along with re-frying the first order. Half the fries were just hollow shells indicating re-fry plus these also had no taste. Finally we ordered a 7" hand tossed pizza, we received a thin crust. Now they did make the correct pizza and it is pretty good but had to wait additional time. All in all we ordered 5 different items and 3 of them had something wrong with them. We ended up being there for over an hour, most of which was spent waiting for our order. We will try this place again but if things don't get better it'll be our last. read more

After several visits over the last year I must give it a low rating. Always a problem with my bill. Over charges are a big problem. Poor service and poor attitude by head bartender. You must initial your order as if your not trusted...your drinks are taxed sometimes and then not at all. Food is poor overall. After a year in business poor service still exists.
